  • think i had nightmares for a year after i first saw all the heads part

  • A+ I LOVE it! This movie is so creepy...

  • The film is closer to Alice and Wonderland than it is to Baum's fantasy.

  • nice

  • Yes, it is symbolism for crystal meth in the gay community. But Jake Shears is also a big fan of the movie Return To Oz, hence me making this video.

  • It's my understanding that this song is about the horrible realities of crystal meth and what it does to people.

  • @mattybock meth an realities ,tis tis tis

  • Brilliant video, but did you realise this song was about crystal meth addiction?

  • The Wheelers are scarier than the flying monkeys in the first Oz movie. The flying monkeys did bad things, because they had been enslaved by the Wicked Witch of the West. They were happy when Dorthy killed her. With the Wheelers you get the impression they enjoy being bad.

  • Classic track and great piece of video art - well done! But it also shows the underestimated musical capacity of this wonderful band.

  • I respect Return to Oz more than The 1939 musical, wich I do love deeply. But Just for the simple fact when it comes to Return to oz, it stayed more true & faithful to the books. & I appreciated that. In the 80's when it came to adventure fantasy it was all about darkness & Black magic. Laybrith, The dark crystal, Star wars. So for that time it was very popular. & Even Walter murch said when he intended to make this film it was aimed for a more adult crowed. A "realistic" Land of Oz.

  • Never seen the movie "Return To Oz", but from what I've seen in this clip, it looks like "The Wizard of Oz" meets "The Never Ending Story"

  • Wow I just discovered this song. Fan of the movie BTW. Does this song have an official video? You know what I'd really like? if the band (or some other artist doing a remix) could strike some deal with Disney and then do a video with the setting and the (non-human) characters of this movie (Fairuza Balk can make an appearance too I guess). That would be awesome!

  • I will tell you that both this video and Doctor Who are the reasons I love Scissor Sisters! I saw both this and the episode "Last of the Time Lords" at about the same time, and was like... 0_0 This band is GREAT! Love the vid !!

  • wow.... that was impressive.

    just Wow.

  • @gljohnson33 Thanks

  • doesnt matter when i hear this song it freaks me out...dont know why...its totally great though...i think its cause i hate the second wizard of oz movie...those dudes on the wheels...eugh

  • I just love the song and the video footage...superb!!! This is a favourite of mine Mikey. thanx for the memories!!!

  • I love this song so much. It reminds me of about six years ago, having met my current boyfriend and spending all our free time sitting in his car listening to music <3

  • The end of this song is so beautiful. I love the piano!

  • I'd pretty much forgotten about this film.

I watched it when I was reall young, and it gave me serious nightmares. Especially the wheelers...

    Amazing video! Great job!

  • sorry for my english (I am writing with a "translator"), the composition is just super! cool!

  • I never seen return to oz. im 33 now and im surprised I never seen it. I loved the sisters song so much i decided to youtube it and I came across your video. great job. This movie is at the top of my list to rent next. thank you!

  • Great Song of "Scissor Sisters"

  • Very Pink Floyd esc!

  • great video :D

  • I love this song!! Somehow whenever my family is eating out at a dark fancy restaraunt I start singing it!!

  • someone needs to make a video of this song that is just the ravaged faces of people who have abused crystal meth. After all, that's what the song is about.

  • Just watched this movie with my mom. She loved it. Great song too :D

  • this is fabulous. thank you so much. <3 marvelous. just wonderful.

  • It still surprises me how much different this movie is from the books, but then again the movie sequel opened up the book series to me.

  • You know I have to say I love the David Bowie edge this group has...its like a stepback in time yet its not a copycat...its genius...

  • Yes, this is going to be another comment saying: awesome job to an awesome song. This song has particular relevance for me... your video is a masterpiece. THANK YOU... nearly five years later it is still fantastic!

  • This song is one of the Scissor Sisters best...and a job well done to match the video footage!!! Congrats on a splendid effort!!!

  • Nice job kid!

  • This is great dude!! thanks ^_^

  • 28 people need to learn how to click the like button! o_O

I love this video so much, because I discovered Scissor Sisters and Return to Oz at the same time.

It would be nice if Jake Shears has seen this video...

  • I LOVE THIS! SO MUCH! YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW!!!!!

  • @pupacroomba ;)!

  • Brilliant video! I love this song so much!

  • Why does this song make me cry?

  • I wish they had more songs like this...any suggestions?

  • @bluesaphirexx18 well ithink its a bit like Dead London from war of the worlds, or Shine On You Crazy Diamond, by Pink FLoyd

  • @bluesaphirexx18 check out david bowie. start with space oddity.

  • this is the wizzard version with a young fairuza balk playing dorothy

  • Love, love, love this song

  • Wow...well done A++++++ love this song

  • awww mikey YES PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!! the atromy was nice. really.

  • This video was the first on the list when I looked for the Scissor Sisters song, so I clicked. Eh... Actually I don't think taking a metaphor literally makes for a good video.

  • Really well coordinated! One of my favorite films and my favorite song from the S.S!

  • I always imagined the tale of the world of Oz almost being like an epic tale along with Lord of the Rings and such. Like there was a war among witches and the wizard. That'd be cool

  • great video well timed to the song to whats happening in the movie. I'm glad that you posted it. They go together perfectly

  • Comment removed

  • love it

  • man i tell you what... the people that wrote this song are fukin genius. i know my s**t

  • I love this movie. This song fits so perfectly with this movie.

  • it's a shame Jake hasn't seen it because it's really good, very well made and it fits perfectly! Thumbs up from me! :-) xx

  • AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA at the "Sex Appeal" line. :P

  • Compared to the Wizard of Oz, this movie makes no sence at all....especially considering Dorothy was played by a teenager and suddenly - years LATER she's an 8 year old...

But as a singular movie, this is probably the most imaginative - and most terrifying - I have EVER seen.

  • this is my fav from them i saw this live the only time i saw them and they killed it. f**kn epic. one of the best shows i ever saw. ive seen a few. :)

  • This song makes me think of Atlanta.

  • Im Sure Jake Would Love This Video xxxx

  • Love This Video Well Done x

  • this looks likes something.the creators of "the crow + dark city" made

  • what movie is this from? x

  • Wicked!

  • awesome!

  • THIS SONG IS REAL ART, not that pop-crap like justin bieber etc. one of the greatest bands of our time !!!!!!!! in 30 years i'll still remember them. EPIC

  • Still a good job!

Happy 25th Anniversary, Return to Oz!

I've also made my own version of this song too after so long!

  • I got Return to Oz for my nephew from netflix and he was glued to the screen

  • BTW dont comment me talking shit or trying to argue. Ima transexual & when I say "they" I mean gay & transgender people in my community who do drugs, party to much & have tested positive for HIV. Not just gay people get AIDS, duh. But this song is talking about a gay male. (look it up) & we do get blamed for HIV alot cuz hetrosexuals have more rights than us. making alot of people who do not identify with being straight an outcast. or alone. So they pick up on drugs leading to thier deaths:(

  • This is a sad song I agree. I did some research on this. Not only is it about crystal meth but about being gay & how drugs have affected the GBLT community leading to HIV AIDS. & how they as a community, because they are so small compared to the rest of society have seen alot of friends pass away because drugs, sex & the diseases it can bring if you get too caught up in it. overall cuz gay people seem to deal with alot of rejection from the world they turn to the party scene.... Sad. But true.

  • i wonder now thats its 4 years down the line from when the vid was posted if jake shears(from scissor sisters) ever got to watch it or got back to you about it ?

  • @reksub10

lol no, unfortunately, still haven't heard from Jake.

  • @MikeyPaniker oh well it was worth a try...was it a long shot anyway?????could you not track him down on twitter mabye (i dont know how twitter works) without coming across as a stalker...lol...cheers for vid though i loved it

  • @MikeyPaniker awww i hope yu get a reply cuz i think this is a great video !! and so do 904 other people :-)

  • @MikeyPaniker, hmmm, I guess he was just bullshitting. That sucks. Nice video. One of my fave films from my childhood.... between this movie and the weird films Don Bluth was coming out with back in the eighties and nineties (and the Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, etc.) it's no wonder I turned out to be such a strange adult.

  • @Lovertits9 , I don't think Jake was bullshitting me. When we had our communications though, it was before they really got HUGE. I can't blame the guy for getting busy and forgetting about my vid. I'm sure he's watched it. Someone told me they overheard Del Marquis talking about it, and that the band liked my video.

  • ummmm anybody ever realize that stone king was totaly wearing womens shoes at 2:46

  • @Icecreamsuicide yeah there the ruby slippers that give the wearer awesome power when in oz

  • There first album was the single most greatest album composed on the planet, in my opinion, the contrast of music in each song, and how in-depth each one goes, really, hands down one of the greatest groups around! sooo wanna see them live! :D funky shows ;D

  • What film is this :S

  • @KenzieBoyRFC its called "the return to oz" starring faruzia baulk from the movie "the craft" only she is very young in this movie ..its an awesome kids movie for its time ,it might look a bit dated now but will still amaze the kids

  • A truly fantastic video. Wonderful adaptation of a beautiful song. Long live Scissor Sisters! Thank you for sharing your talents.

  • I really love this video, great job!

  • ey that's the crazy chick from that witches movie, mmm the craft i think!, i loved that movie.

  • I forgot how much I loved this movie !!!! Excellent job!!

  • omg! it's Faruza Baulk!!!!!!!!!

  • Return to oz pwned !

It was totally unique when put beside the origional movie

  • yup awesome ablum i rememeber when i first listened to it i moved to a new house after i came out of best buy listen to the whole thing and loved

it it different type of music

damn im burnt sorry if ya cant understand what i wrote

  • Gorgeous video for a gorgeous song. If I were SS, I'd be honored.

  • It still amazes me how many views and comments this old vid of mine gets. I really appreciate all of you! :) Maybe I should make another Scissor Sisters video.

  • I really liked the video and the song. Wats the second 1 bout

  • @MikeyPaniker this video is just so brilliant! you must have put so much thoought time into it, and it shows. i love how you match the images with the words without being trivial (what most ppl end up doing). i think you are really talented! :)

  • @MikeyPaniker

definatly, im waiting for another new album from them ^^

  • @MikeyPaniker

Thank you for this. It's a wonderful, magical blend.

  • @MikeyPaniker Thanks. It's a wonderful musical blend. Hugs.

  • Nice job, the video fits the song very nicely :)

  • I'll never get over how good this is.

  • One of my favourite songs of all time, and the movie is on par with Labyrinth as far as I'm concerned

  • I think I'm in the minority when I say this is MUCH better and faithful than The Wizard of Oz.

  • @peach79 it sure is

  • I wonder, did Jake ever watch it?

    It's beautiful.

  • I LIKE THIS HOMEBOY,NICE JOB ESE!

  • Well done, it's by far

    my fave song

  • Absolutely Awesome Video :)

    WELL DONE MAN!!

  • Fantastic Song , Fantastic Video from one of the best Fantasy Movies of all times!

  • Nice video Mikey! This is one of my fav flicks too.

  • GOOD JOB . . . DO ANOTHER ONE!!!

  • What are the sisters doing now ? I need My fix !!! I saw them twice in Boston and once in NYC ( Oh damn, what a night !! )

  • I love love this song, but my only complaing would be the reference to "Skeksis"--which were the antagonistic characters from "The Dark Crystal", not "Return to Oz"

  • yes, ive loved this song for ages and that bit has always stuck in my head and i thought the same, was nice that someone else had noticed it too.

  • so did shears watch it?

  • Great song! ...with obviously Gilmour/Waters influence, but who else : )

  • Never seen the film, but as for the song - I wonder who Jake Shears was listening to at the time when he did this. Pink Floyd per chance?

The chord changes in "Is this the return to Oz, the grass is dead..." is VERY Floyd. Including the instrumental. Surely there's a copyright issue here Jake?

  • I don't think its THAT close although there is definitely an influence. As a Pink Floyd obsessive fanatic myself, I know where you are coming from but I don't believe that is copyright infringement. In High Hopes, the lyric was "the grass was greener

The light was brighter". In Brain Damage, the lyric was "The lunatic is on the grass

Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs, Got to keep the loonies on the path". Close, but no cigar

  • I can see where you are coming from, personally i see Elton John a huge influence here.

  • this is rilly good it goes togever is rilly good thank you for doing that

  • Fun Fact. The little girl's Fairuza Balk (of American History X, Waterboy, The Craft)

  • @geraldoatlarge she dose an interview about the filming of this movie on the DVD :)

  • Hey. I worked on that film. It's one of my favourites too.

  • ONe of the best films iv ever seen..very under rated

  • whats the name of the song please anyone it kicks major rear =D

  • It's called Return To Oz, by Scissor Sisters. It's on their debut album, you should totally buy it ^_^ the whole thing is awesome from start to finish.

  • Don't forget the Album Ta Da they did following there Debut Success;)equally as great!!

  • Agreed. Is their follow up as good? I loved their first effort but was wondering because I am considering purchasing it

  • Yes, Ta Dah is an AMAZING album.

  • @MikeyPaniker in my opinion its one of the best debue albums of all time with 10 from pearl jam thanks for posting it have the album since it was released but have just bought the dvd cant wait to watch it

  • ps there is no Queen in Return to Oz the characters name is Princess Mombi(she's a Witch-can u see a pattern here lol)and her Character was played by UK actress Jean Marsh famed for playin Villains-the film i believe was filmed in UK at Pinewood on the largest Film lot in Europe the Bond Lot-Faruza balk plays Dorothy later to play Head Honcho in Cult Teen Classic " The Craft"another superb Film:)(thanks btw so chuffed somebody made this video sorry lol)

  • it's not -really- about Return to Oz. :P

  • at last i find the holy graal of Fantasy married beautifully with the correct song since i heard this from there first Album i have wanted to see this Excellent Mickey you have created so much of what all have envisaged whn they heard this song-off to watch the film jus now infact on DVD many many thanks coz now i can see this whn evea i want Thanks again-btw did i say Thanks already lol :P

  • reallly goodd ,, the song mathes the parts of the video in the film ,, its really good :)

  • ha This movie used to freak me out when i was little

But i LOVE how the queen was always like "SO!" Whenever she caught Dorthy doing something =D

  • A friend of mine's ex-room mate was one of the heads in the jars that the Queen put on. True story.

  • i haven't seen this movie in ages. and i love Scissor Sisters too. bad ass vid btw

  • Awesome! great song and excellent movie! :-)

  • Which version of the song is this?

  • The version from the album. You should buy it if you haven't, it's awesome. ^_^

  • The first time I saw this in the theater (and I saw it several times before it left), when it was over, the first thing I said was "I want to see it again! NOW!"

This got TERRIBLE reviews from idiots who compared it to Wizard of Oz (which I also love, but not as much) instead of treating it as its own entity. Disney should be proud of this film and release it in Blu Ray. I'd buy a machine just for it.

Sadly, it's the only film the great Walter Murch ever directed. But what an only film!

  • Oh MAN! I would have killed to see Return To Oz in a movie theater. Unfortunately, I was just newborn (I was born a couple days after it went into theaters, hahaha).

Best movie ever, in my opinion.

  • (Oooops)

Ha, yeah, toldja I was old. I was grown up when it came out. and was still enthralled.

There's one thing that DVDs/videos can never convey properly: that gorgeous opening shot with the words "Return to Oz" on the nightsky background. On film the green in the letters shimmered in a beautiful, unusual and mesmerizing way. We bought the video when it came out, then the DVD, and it looks different. Maybe if it's released on HD that subtle but astonishing effect can be seen again.

  • This was in the "Related Videos" of one of my Happy Rhodes trance instrumental. I don't know why, but I am SO glad it was! I yelped when I glanced over and saw it. This is one of my favorite movies and I've seen it dozens of times. I'm old enough to have seen it in the theater, and it was magical the first time, and still is.

I hadn't heard this song before, but it's beautiful and your work putting the two together is exceptional! Love your fan trailer too!

  • love the vid and the song :D

  • This song/Vid brought tears to my eyes, Meth is such a horrible thing, why do people STILL do it!!!

Congrats on this mixture, it made me cry... <3

    Hope your day goes well

  • Thanks so much for your comment. :-) I'm glad it moved you!

Hope your day goes well, as well!

  • Hey, did Jake ever get back to you by chance?

  • No he hasn't.

  • Hmm ... I like the first one than this one... but this one is abit creepy than the first one though

  • really i love your video its asewome

really i love it i cant stop to see it

  • Comment removed

  • SO did Jake ever watch it?

  • I don't know for sure, but I heard from someone that allegedly worked for the BBC that overheard Del Marquis talking about my vid. I wish I could get an actual response from the band some day! Maybe I'll burn it onto DVD and mail it to them.

  • that would be awesome

your vid is amazing though =]

  • yea. because of this vid i actually went to the library and got this movie out. it good, lil creepy but good

  • how do you know them

  • I don't. I sent Jake the email though back before they got really big, and he replied to fan emails.

Apparently they know about me and my vid though, because allegedly Del Marquis said the band liked it. But I don't know that for sure.

  • Beautiful!

  • Nice!

My only complaint: no skeksis :)

  • Superb. Honestly, theres so many fanvids of all kinds of shows, but theres only 1 or 2 from each show/film worth watching- and this is definatley a excellent, well made one.

  • Nicely done, bravo.

  • i loved emma ridleys sis of me and my girl in the 80's

  • Fantastic!! Great song and great movie!!

  • Amazing.

  • Blown away by this. Expertly done. Congrats.

  • Nice Song!! thx

  • i havent watch this video yet,, is this another horror film?

  • No, it's not a horror film. It's a Disney adventure film, but it's a little dark/twisted.

  • not seen this film in years.. forgot just how strange it was! excellent work on the vid.

  • Just so everyone know, I'm currently (finally) remaking this video with better quality and new edits. :-)

  • Surely it doesnt need redoing. Its great!!

  • As a seven yr old I found this movie quite disturbing when it came out ,talk about light and shade when compared to the original!

  • Excellent fan cut. Jesus Christ.

  • LUV THIS MOVIE!!!

was the patchwork girl in the move?

i think they should make a third, or a movie for all the books!

    THAT WOULD BE INSANE!!!

  • Mad props to you for syncing the footage of the guy winding up the EST machine just as they sing "there's a wind up man walking round and round" (at 0:48)! :-)

  • this was a great movie, i remember watching it when i was only 11, now im 21, but this movie was made like in the 70s or sumthin and wizard of oz like in 1920 or 30s :O long before our parents were even born, damn.
