I'm not disagreeing with you over the hair thing but in "Maximum Ride, Saving The World and other extreme sports" on page 325 it talks about her being born with blond hair and the color change was only because she dyed it. I know what you mean by ethnic background but Max's natural hair color is blond.

The only time Max has dyed her hair was at the end of book one to blonde with pink streaks. The line you are talking about is when Jeb says she has blonde hair, right? Well, it doesn't say anything about her dying her hair brown. And honestly, I can't imagine Max taking the time to dye her hair when she is on the run. In book 5 it clearly states she has brown hair with blonde streaks due to sun streaking. If she dyed her hair, that wouldn't happen. The dye would fade before her hair naturally
