  • The history books tell you that the RAF took off from Scotland to sink the Tirpitz.

They actually took off from RAF Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire and it was 9 and 617 (Dambusters) Squadron's Lancasters.

  • Giants 24 - Packers 0.

    LOL!!

  • I have a question... how come the Norwegians resisted from day one and the Danes didn't?

  • The Norwegian terrain is SLIGHTY more well adapted for guerilla warfare... :P

And Denmark has a much smaller landmass for occupying powers to cover.

There was a Danish resistance force, but it's nowhere near as famous today as the Norwegian.

Btw, my grandfather was stationed in Denmark - that was where he met my grandmother. :)

  • because when denmark was attacked the government surrendered. But from the start there was people who fought against the germans, but without weapons they stole what they could get from them or flee for england to fight there instead. It was around 1943 the danish resistance fight really began and sabotage, murders and rescue missions where they tried to rescue allied pilots who had been shot down over denmark.

  • Too many misconceptions here to list them all.

But in short - the Danish government made very sure that Denmark would not be in a state where it could defend itself on 9th april.

Resistance fighters were few and far between all through the war, I am afraid to say. But the few individuals who did fight the nazis still inspire awe. One of them - Anders Lassen, VC, MC & 2 bars, did more for Denmark in those years, than the entire Danish army put together.

  • @cfodk you dont know your history. I had a aunt, a uncle and a grand mother who all fought in the resistance and if you think that the history books of today shows a picture anywhere near the true historie your dumber than the writers of the history books.

  • well, our guards at Amalienborg in copenhagen, defended the royal familiy, until they got orders to surrender, and our cannons to destroy ships, needed a pole, to shoot, but they never got the permission to shoot, hope you understand, i'm not that good at english, But we fought!, those nazi motherfuckers came an took a small country, let's just say we did not have the best weapons. but thank god for the allies.

  • @hermansen5 Well - we had the Madsen Light Machine Gun, the first of its kind and I guess it was pretty good for the time since it retired in 2008

  • Nice to see the propaganda on all sides.

  • IT WAS SUNK IN NORWAY

  • Nice to see the Danish resistance being mentioned. They really saved the fame of Denmark. For the first 3 years of the occupation, there was little opposition to the Germans as the government encouraged the populace the remain calm. But tensions grew and the government had to resign in 1943. After that the situation was pretty much the same as in the rest of Europe in terms of sabotage and such. RIP to our heros..

  • You'll have to excuse me as I don't want to sound rude but how come the Norwegians resisted from day one and the Danes didn't?

Not only that, but why did so many Danes fight for the Germans in SS Viking?

  • are you fucking kidding me?? the germans had to assault Norway by water. Look what happened to France and compare it to what happened to Britain. We did not prepare for an invasion fearing it would provoke the germans. Now when they attacked Denmark, YOU fjeldaber had lots of time to prepare for the future invasion you knew was coming.

  • Denmark did raise an army because they thought this would provoke the germans. When Denmark got invaded the norwegians prepared for the invasion they KNEW was coming. Also Denmark was "peacefully" occupied, they didnt even hunt down the jews until 1943 when WE BEGAN TO FIGHT BACK. Also a sea invasion is a hell of alot easier than one by land.

  • @Klens75 We had 1000 soldiers fighting the germans on the occupation day... They lost 14 panser vehicles and their casualties are unknown

  • @Blackie3391 yeah they are to a still to ashemed to let anybody know.

  • The Tirpitz, the pride of the German navy! The Reich never had a real navy just a few buckets called destroyers and U-boats that enjoyed sinking unarmed civil liners. Good always wins against evil.

  • Stupid boy. Stupid remark!

  • Arse

  • Gr.Capt.Leonard Cheshire could put a bomb down a rabbit burrow from 20,000 feet.

  • "thats when war was war now war is business"

War has existed sonce "ever". DO you really think that "now" the reason has changed?

  • Note that one of the despicable crimes the Nazis were accused of was invading without declaring war.

  • @JiveDadson Agreed. The United States was the only country that Hitler declared war on, according to historians, and that was after Pearl Harbor. I believe that falls under "Conspiracy to Commit Aggression" and/or "Crimes Against World Peace", the first two counts held against the Germans at Nuremburg. (The other two were "War Crimes" and "Crimes Against Humanity" for those curious.)

  • Tromso fjord, not Tennsue fjord;)

  • @karlzzzen86 sorry it is tromsø fjord

  • thats when war was war now war is business

  • Good? No Exellent!

  • good footage of the DP guns trying to shoot down the bombers on the Tirpitz.
