It's rare that I see an audio trick that I haven't tried before. Especially one that's worth it (and not just a dumb idea). This is one of the good tricks. Thank you so much! :)
I'm sorry, everybody, listen, I know people say FL Studio isn't professional enough or it doesn't accomplish all the needs of a producer, but you have to agree with me that mainly every other DAW on the market is ugly as hell. They all look like freaking Midi Studio, but really compacted and unintelligible.
@TasmanianPower Not really - Cubase looks pretty nice these days, Ableton looks REALLY nice, and probably 50% of Reason's appeal is the visuals. I do agree that FL is no better or worse than any other DAW though, it's 100% what you're comfortable with
@TasmanianPower whos to say FL isn't professional? Porter uses it, Avicii uses it. If you create something in FL and have a problem with mastering (this is the unprofessional part in my opinion) just get a different program to do it. I agree its more friendly looking!
Thankyou Daniel, I´ve been looking to get that kind of fat sound from a snare, usually playing with EQ, wallets on snare etc... This is a good "trick" because it´s simple.
Daniel you helped me with the explanation of the snare, can you send me samples of the kick and the snare of this music because I have good microphones to record drums and liked the sound you mixed the kick and snare. If you can send I use in my mixes. Thanks
im having problems to mix my snare drum,.. i´ve recorded it really high pitched ,.. it sounds nice,.. but when all other instruments sounds in the mix,.. i lose the snare,.. i really want my high pitched snare sound beacuase i play ska,.. and a fat snare sounds horrible in ska music,
im thinking in add alot of reverb but can anybody help me with my problem?
Duplicate it, gate it, compress it hard and blend it with the original one. A little compression on the original is good too, and a little gating. Don't add a lot reverb. Sometimes it works best without any rverb.
@123mini have you tried to set the eq really accurately? sometimes you can bring a signal through the mix by boosting the highs or the mids a bit... another tip: use a compressor and set the attack time low, but not too low! By doing that, you can get the very beginning of the snare hit much louder and punchy... don't give up, there :D
@123mini compress or limit the shit out of it?! if there isn't any dynamic performance in the song it shouldn't matter to much. EQ'ing other channels is usually the way to create room for something though, use some kind of frequency analyser and see what other instruments are sharing the same frequencies, small cut/boosts in the right places can work wonders this way. Or you could double track it also?
@123mini it could be that you're mixing TOO LOUD. Start mixes at a good medium volume otherwise if you mix them too loud the instruments will add up and not leave room for individual instruments to cut through. Lower the overall mix.
Actually, the human voice consists of a fundamental and ten overtones. The fundamental is indeed produced by the vocal chords, and the overtones occurs naturally, like on a string instrument. The first overtone is an octave above the fundamental, the second: an octave + a fifth, the third: 2 octaves, the fourth: 2 octaves + a third.
More technically, the overtones are 2*f, 3*f, 4*f etc., where f is the fundamental.
Hi there awesome tip, i tired it but i get this kinda out of phase sound like some modulation is on it when i blend the two. What am i doing wrong?? I am using bounced ez drummer files.
Yeah I would assume so, but even with the gated snare hits, you would expect to hear a little cymbal in there when the gate is letting the snare through

so what happened here? you have one track that's the original snare, and one track that's just the reverb from the pitch-shifted snare?

@123mini compression to give it punch, eq mid-high, make sure it has it's own space in the stereo image
zoeysboy 1 year ago
@123mini low the level of the rest, or eq the snare on a frequency not used by other instruments.

lil thing outta this.... "down a 4th" is a 5th interval...... 5ths combine to produce a lower fundimental frequency.
Male human voice the deep part isn't actually produced, but results from 2 notes a 5th apart higher up making a new fundimental a 5th below.
When you're on the phone, the deep part has been removed by compression, yet you hear it again because of the recombination of these higher harmonics.

Great point! I didn't realize this, but it does make sense.
