  • Like if ur listening to this in 2012 =)

  • This song is absolutely beautiful, Maverick Sabre's version brought me here and I love both versions. Absolutely fantastic!

  • fine black man too! this song is about racism..

  • Thank you...I was 8 yrs old when he did this. My mother loved Sam Cooke.

  • Etta James brought me!! =) =)

i jus fell in love with this song!! ahaha

  • I look back at old classics, and I find it much better than today's music. They put more heart and soul to songs to express themselves. It's as if music was your other lunge... It's something that makes you "alive"...

Sometimes I wonder what actually happened to music like these?

  • "CD quality!"

Sorry this is youtube, you need to check your facts.

    I love this song.

  • it`s like an ear massage.

  • The first song that ever touched my soul. Thanks God!

  • era a racism era of racism--this is his masterpiece and he was lying dead in a rainccoat while the god damn beatles were making millions!!! racism!!

  • @TheVivascargill Pardon me but check your facts before all of the racism and lying dead in a raincoat crap. He was shot and killed in Los Angles by a motel manager when he went to ask for help. He was wearing a sport coat not a raincoat. See the crime scene photos. The song can be for any color person in agony and dismay. Just my humble opinion.

  • @TheVivascargill it wasn't a rain coat he was at a motel and the hooker he hired stole his pants he went to the managers office banging on the counter cussing and she felt threatened and shot him. He was wearing just a shirt and shoes when the LAPD arrived.

  • beautiful

  • Awesome song!

  • If you like this song, and understand what its about, I encourage you all to go here and do whatever you can to help these women achieve the change they want/need/are working towards..(Facebook::Young Women For Change - Afghanistan)

  • We had a karaoke night at my university and I got bored of hearing people sing the same old stuff, so sang this, not to blow my own trumpet, but it went sooo well! I was so proud of myself, the atmostphere changed so much when I hit that first note and the room went silent in shock I think hahaha. Shame hardly anybody even knew the song :/ I feel I musically educated them ;)

  • @MrDanielWalls that took real guts. if you HAVE to do karaoke, might as well be a killer song. cheers

  • This is one of the few song in existence that cannot possibly be remade and outdone, ever!

  • my daddy was called little sam in north carolina when he sang sam's music

  • ABSOLUTE POWER !!

  • This classic always reminds me of the saddest part of the Malcolm X (Denzil Washington) movie when Malcolm accepts his imminent mortality as he is driven along that leafy road to his final speech at the Audubon Ballroom.....................still makes me sad.........I wonder where this world would be if he was not assassinated?

  • @MrDJSkiii ! on top of the world baby yes we would be! more secure and positive amongst each other!

  • @MrDJSkiii And Spike Lee's DVD commentary is haunting / sad / amazing for that scene

  • This makes you think of your life at present and what may come in the future. It also makes you think of that future. So, please, be, do and create the best life for you and yours.

  • One of the best vocalists of all time!

  • @RoryWeb2011 I believe Sam..gives me inspiration, chills, hope...

  • I use to listen to this song before I even knew what the words truly meant....compliments of my Granny. Sad she's not here..but we are gradually seing change!!!!

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP AND LISTEN TO THE MUSIC

  • @Murcury159 I agree!!

  • A change is gonna come, and it will not be pretty, especially if you don't have a legit relationship with JESUS CHRIST. Listen to the lyrics: Its been too hard livin

but I am afraid to die

'cause I don't know whats up there

    beyond the sky..."

There is a heaven up beyond the sky and a hell beyond the crust of this earth. Just because you don't believe in GOD/JESUS CHRIST, or haven't accepted CHRIST as ur SAVIOR doesn't nullify the fact. These r the end times. b ready, please

  • This song is universal! To me, it represents that if we all work together to let those lame-assed people in Washington, our Congress, know that ---"There IS a Change Comin' "! Because, We the people will make the change! Big Business also needs to know that we are tired of their GREED and payoffs, called Lobbyism---That is gon' change!

  • @pervo3000 this song was written in the response of how sam had been treated due to his race!

  • @UrLuv10 In this beautiful song Mr. Cooke poignantly conveys the suffering of African-Americans through out the centuries of slavery, segregation and struggle for equality. May he rest in peace.

  • Who the fuck disliked this?!

  • this is it.... i have listened yo soooooo many versions... this is the one

  • this is a fighting song

  • to think that people thought of us "blacks" and damn near nothing but when you stop and listen to that voice...that meaning...you'd think it would make ya question your own out look on life and all that it hold...truly an amazing song

  • i miss my uncle bay bay because he dead an this song remind me of him rest an peace!

  • Sam Cooke was murdered and framed. He was making as much money as Elvis, and the white people in charge didn't like to see a black man coming up like that.

  • one of the best songs ever written period..... if you dont feel this down deep in your soul u dont have one ...classic

  • @170flyguy I am not that old in age, but I definitely love this song, I was raised by "old souls" if you will...this was one of my grand mother's favorites...took me a long time to understand the lyrics...but im there now! Mr. Redding surely put a lot into this one!

  • @170flyguy couldn't put it better myself

  • 10 people have no hearts

  • I Cant Stop Listening To This Song Man.. Every Since My Cuz Etienne Died , And They Played This At Hiss Funeral , I Will Never Gofet It. Rip Cuzin

  • Black Anthem? Why? Sam Cookes own father shot him in the back in 1963 - Everybody lost when Sam Cooke died - But why is this just for blacks? Such BS takes the joy out of the purpose for listening to this - It is a spiritual tune that transcends angst - and get over it - I have known many blacks and not ONE is blood related to a former slave! No more than Texas still belonging to Mexico Awesome tune!!

  • @chaserUSA48 Sorry but you have your singers mixed up. Sam Cooke was murdered at a hotel in what seemes to have been a bager con gone bad. The motel manager shot him and claimed he was attacking her.

Marvin Gaye was shot and killed by his father, Marvin Gaye, Sr..

  • @chaserUSA48

    Your comment reeks of resentment.

Yes, is a song written and performed by a Black man about the pain of Black people in a white supremacist, brutal country.

It is our history and we claim it

    Get over it!

  • @grossda410 Your response reeks of racist unresolved anguish. Poor you such a victim in this "brutal country" So then you seem not to be able to hang so you "Claim" racism and victim-hood when your lives have been relatively protected. Its not YOUR history - you weren't there but others with integrity and institutional memory were - the resentment is your own - I always loved Sam Cooke and listened to this song as a youth never caring that he was black -- why?

  • @grossda410

    AMEN!!!

  • how could 10 people dislike this great great song

  • This deserves more coverage, where is talent like this today - it wont be found on X factor for sure.

  • thumbs up if you know change gonna come one day .. I still believe change gonna come .. RIP TROY DAVIS !!! .. your free now homie .. fuck this flawed ass judicial system

  • @beezy272 Damn Skippy!!

  • @beezy272 R.I.P. TROY DAVIS HE DIED A STRONG, HUMBLE , SPIRITUAL MAN MUCH RESPECT. He is some1 i look up to

  • @beezy272 What about MacPhail and his wife and kids that were left behind because some piece of shit decided to shoot him to death. MacPhail was killed by either Davis, Daryl Collins or Redd Coles. Couldn't have been anyone else. Does anyone believe that Davis was in the wrong place at the wrong time on two consecutive nights? I find that hard to believe. It would have been much easier to give him the benefit of the doubt if he had only been involved in one shooting. Two days in a row?

  • im not a black American but i respect this song with all i can give and this song changed the world forever . Obama , Jay Z and all other black Americans are inspired by this wounderous song

  • Sampled this into my beat guys, check it out :)

  • R.I.P. TROY ANTHONY DAVIS YOU ARE NOW FREE FROM THE JUDGMENT OF THS INJUSTICES OF YOUR COUNTRY.

I'm very pourd that I am NOT an American on this day.

  • Peace&Love to my brother Troy Davis

  • denzel should do a biography movie on him

  • When you're going through something this song always seem to ease the problem

  • It's International Day of Peace on Wednesday 21st September
