  • EPINEPHRINE!!! lol i didnt know if in the scene the kid had an epi pen.

  • @AirstrikeGaming they succkkkkkk.......I mean, I die if i am in the room with peaunts. It's something that has really changed my life.

  • @AirstrikeGaming I guess. I am allergic to 23 things...foods included. Thanks.

  • @AirstrikeGaming -That's right

  • @AirstrikeGaming---Like I said, ventolin is only used by most paramedics when it is a respiratory problem and the patient has a history of asthma/ COPD. In an anaphylactic reaction, epinephrine and diphenhydramine (benedryl) is used. This all depends on the paramedics local protocol and whether of not they are a BLS crew/ an ALS crew.

  • touching your nose with gloves.....NO NO..TOO SLOW

  • touching your nose with gloves.....NO NO

  • first, it's just a demonstration. second, when my son had a milk allergy challenge in the doc's office last year, his throat was closing and his breathing was labored, but he was still crying. he has also never been given oxygen, b/c the benadryl and epinephrine stop and then reverse the symptoms, so not everyone needs oxygen.

  • WRONG! O2 first, not BP, 3 lead or pulse ox.

  • @bhstone1 right, but he everyone is different. They should have went according to their assessments but in the field they do hit all of the steps.

  • Thats not even close to the severity of my reaction to peanut products ANY PEANUT PRODUCT.. I get Hives my throat swells up I get severe severe stomach cramps and my tongue gets a really really painful burning sensation whichc doesnt go away for about 8 hours I have an epi pen for it I've only had 1 reaction about 10 years ago I was 5 years old and benadryl saved my life assuming I did not have an Epi Pen and was home basically alone with my 12 year old brother (At the time hes now 21). My story

  • Anyone no what to do if you are allergic to nuts, dont have an epipen and u eat one without knowing? Like do u just call 999 and wait or what. I have an allergy to peanuts and im asthmatic but i dont have an epipen! Any ideas?

  • @wilkinson4eva My advice would be to buy an Epi Pen, i know they are expensive but is better to be safe than sorry!!!

  • @wilkinson4eva did your doc not prescribe an epi-pen? we've never had to use ours for our son (he's 3) b/c we're hyper-vigilant, but we still get replacement ones when they expire. what was your previous reaction? was it external, ie rash, or internal, ie breathing, or both? if it was just a rash, you might be able to just take benadryl and/or drive yourself to the hospital. if it's internal, I'd maybe take benadryl anyway but also call 911 (don't drive!)

  • @captswife My last reaction was when i was like little. Im now 18 and watch what i eat. I no what im aloud and what im not and when i try new things i read packets to find out first! Peanuts or if ive eaten something that makes me react i just get puffy eyes and blotchy face. Thats it! I have many contact allergies. I mean im allergic to peanuts, peniccilin, animals, dust tbh anything i could touch i could be allergic too.

  • cool video, check out our anaphylaxis video.

  • Anaphylaxis sucks!

  • jnlkhj

  • No explanation, reasoning,an amateurish video. I'm studying nursing and this is a waste of time as an educational exercise.

  • It's a good scenario just the only thing I would have done is brought the pt. into the ambulance and started treating him there and en route to the hospital.

  • @jcalie01 That's what they did w/ me when my breathing started getting worse even w/ oxygen on.

I stopped breathing and passed out. The doctor at ER told me they had to put a needle in my neck that was attached to a bvm.

  • paramedics are hot!

  • @Rreynaertt u should be serius i have this disise and it is rely hard to live with

  • okay.. really? It's youtube..

  • p.s if this was real:P I wouldnt have said that;)

  • @Rreynaertt ok then i am sorry thewn i am just sock of people tacking the mic coz it is hard to cope with this ps are u in the usa

  • No. i'm not from the US... And i never said it wasnt hard to cope with.

  • @wm1108 Anaphylaxis isn't really a disease, and it's not the worst thing to have, especially depending on your allergies.

  • @Hurting88 fair enoth i know it is no that bad but i dont like it when people say thinks like this guy on the vidio coz mine is much worse i coundent talk let alone sit down so that why coz these vidio are not very relastic thanks for comenting

  • I have asthma and eczema and im allergic to nuts but i dont have an epipen. Maybe i dont have it severly but i havent eaten nuts since like i was diagnosed when a baby. So i dunno. But i have ventalin will that help if i eva have a problem?

  • Nice video to see how it's done in real life. Most people think paramedics just open their box of drugs and inject people like they do on that new show Trauma. They don't realize that a lot of "assessment" has to happen before drugs can be given. This is a pretty clear cut case of an allergic reaction, but most calls are not so obvious (i.e. new onset food allergies).

  • by the time they were done asking questions, I would have stopped breathing and DIED! I've seen this happen to my daughter when she inhaled chlorine...thankfully, they were asking ME the questions while they hooked her up to o2 immediately

  • The very second you stop breathing they stop asking questions.

It happened to me in 2002. They were asking questions and my breathing suddenly got radically worse. He stopped asking questions and put the oxygen on me.

But my throat closed completely, and they had to stick a needle in my neck and breathe straight into my lungs.

I have no memory of the needle. The ER doctor told me about it.

  • @yahssis---You wouldn't have died...Paramedics have to ask the questions to properly assess, treat and make an in-field diagnosis of the medical, trauma or environmental problem. This information is needed so that the paramedics can relay this info to the triage nurse and attending doctor(s) Also keep in mind in order for a patient to have an anaphylactic reaction, they need to have been previosuly exposed to that specific allergen.

  • if its that hard to breath then hows he talking soo easyly.. when i couldnt breath and had to go to hospitall i couldnt hardlyy talk !

  • It's called ACTING!!! :P

  • @lozinger13 It is just a educational demonstration. We do this all the time in my EMS Academy.

  • @lozinger13

because it's just a demonstration, idiot. he's not REALLY having a reaction

  • @lozinger13 Same here. I passed out and woke up to my mother screaming, I thought i was a goner :( but when i heard that ambulance i felt a smile emerge from my face and i knew i'd be alright. But i still don't know what the case was for my allergic reaction. I'm scared i'm going to die sometimes :(.....

  • People can be allergic to bees.

  • i dont see how this video helps. i mean if someone gets a bad shock and you have no medication is there anything you can do?

  • Not unless you have a phone. You have to call 911 and tell them the person's in anaphylaxis. It's a Trauma 1 situation, and they'll send help right away. If you don't like using the word anaphylaxis, just tell them the person has hives and isn't breathing very well, the 2 main symptoms of a severe allergic reaction.

A Trauma 1 means the patient can die within a half hour if he doesn't get help. The 911 Operator will know that and will send help right away.

  • if they have ventolin, you can try that as well. it sounds stupid but both ventolin and epinephrine are bronchodilators. Ventolin saved my life when I was about 3.

  • Bronchodilators stimulate the sympathetic nervous system by causing the bronchioles in the lungs to dilate, so air can pass through them.

They classify medications by groups: cardiac, respiratory, psychiatric, antibiotc, etc. Each group always has several choices in it.

Since I'm only a paramedic, not a pharmacist, I'm not sure what the detailed differences are. I know that, according to what a doctor told me, medication production is too inexact for one medicine to work on all people.

  • Well yes I'm not saying only use ventolin, only that it kept my airways open long enough for the ambos to get there. And seeing as we had no EpiPen, salbutamol was all we had. With St John Ambulance (first aid, not paramedics) we're taught that if you or the pt has no EpiPen obviously rest and reassure them, but we are taught to use salbutamol. I guess because you can't OD on an inhaler and salbutamol either will help or it won't, it won't make it worse.

  • But I'm sorry if it came off saying you should always use ventolin or something else insane like that, I didn't mean that. Just as a last resort.

  • @stephab13--Ventolin would only be used by msot BLS paramedics if it was a respiratory problem. If it's true anaphylaxis and you have all the indications to use the anaphylactic protocol, then epinephrine and benedryl is used.

  • @TRIXSTER03 Yeah, I've said before. I'm currently just a lowly first aider, not a paramedic. And I'd imagine a fair few of the people viewing this aren't meds either. But if you do come across someone who is having a severe reaction with no EpiPen and you happen to have Ventolin, there is no harm whatsoever in using it. It does actually help to some extent. Obviously call an ambulance. But Ventolin will help. And you can't OD on what you get out of an inhaler too :D

  • @stephab13--Actually, it is possible to OD on ventolin, like any other medication/ drug. You have to consider how much of the drug was taken, (by itself or with other things such as,street drugs, alcohol, etc.

But it is possible and it can be fatal.

  • @Sfikou--Bad shock?

  • I visited the Sedona Fire Department's web site, because I like the way the guy does this video.

It seems like he cares. I've had the great misfortune of being treated by a Paramedic who DIDN'T care, now I'm greatly appreciative of those who do. Or who, if they DON'T care, don't also tell me their 7-yr. old son takes pain better than I do and that's why I should shut up.

  • They didn't ask me that many questions when I was in anaphalactic shock, mainly b/c I couldn't talk anyway.

They started out asking questions, then stopped when I wasn't able to answer and put oxygen on me. He even told me not to try and talk, which wasn't a problem since I couldn't move air w/out gasping.

  • I got a rash all over my body when I had my anaphalactic reaction. It happened so fast I was barely passing air when they loaded me in the ambulance.

The last thing I remember before losing consciousness was hoping the Paramedic could read the look in my eyes that said "Please save me."

He told me they were going to take care of me and encouraged me to hang in there.

Then everything went black. Next thing I remember is waking up in ER.

  • i have anaphylaxis.

i have a severe allergy to peanuts & other nuts.

i have an epi-pen on me at all tmes.

i have had shcok a couple of times.

its sooo painful & really scary.

    i nearly died twice.

  • i hav anaphylactics too its sucks i have 2 carry an epi pen every where

  • Where's primary survey? =P

  • exactly what i was just thinking. a little late on the o2.

  • lol just a tad

  • If a person's talking, you don't have to perform the primary survey. It's obvious they have an airway, are breathing and sustaining a heartbeat when they're talking.

That's how I was trained: the primary survey is the ABC's.

  • well of course, but I was trained to make sure anyways.

  • I'm guessing that main guy was trained in ALS, and the assistant was trained in BLS.

  • u can stung one day be fine get stung a week

    later and drop dead.

  • Interesting...I friend of mine had an allergic reaction from a bee sting and I was there...if I would have seen this I think I would have been able to do a lot more than I had done...really helpful...saves lives
