  • Thank you very much for watching. Must try!

  • Excellent video

  • wow this video is terrible!!! yea lets practice releasing the club before and after the ball, that should create good habits, or not!! this guy has no idea how to explain how tour players release the club! When you watch a tour player release the club it seems as if he is letting the club fly past his hands and rotating closed. This is an incorrect observation. what happens is the club never gets past the hands after impact, instead it rolls over! Do u get that? the shaft turns, doesnt flip

  • 1:29 / 1:30 i can never! swing my left arm as far back as that. this means i shouldn't start this game?

  • @timen1986 you can swing your left arm further back than you know.Good players don't swing the left arm back on its own it will get stuck and that is probably what U are doing.Connect the upper left arm to your upper chest, this is known as a fulcrum. Now turn your hips and back around clockwise, fold the right arm while hinging the wrist. This will get your left arm plenty deep and start you off to a connected golf swing

  • @secretogolf

Thanks! I will keep this in mind

  • @timen1986 You definitely should! Golf is a great game. There are so many different ways to hit the ball, as long as you get to the correct impact position nothing else really matters. There are plenty of golfers with short swings yet still have tons power. Look on youtube for JB holmes and alvaro quiros both short swings but some of the longest hitters on tour.

  • @Strgchris

thank you, watching JB holmes his swing helped me figure out mine a little more :D

  • i love these tips i found a great coach stop by

  • Very good video!

  • what happens if you havent got enough room in front of your mirror?, not everyone lives in a mansion

  • Good video but my putting has been terrible since watching. I seem to be overhitting everything.

  • I think this is Rick Howard's long lost brother.

  • Great video! (You need to upload more videos on a regular basis~)

  • Thanks for the good video.

I had no idea there was a time to release it, I just try to hit it. I'll pay attention to it now!

I think I always delay it!

  • 2nd swing is what it looks like if you have boneritous

  • @irapemyselfhard Thats a great tip. Guess you have alot of expierence :)

  • hey just got some clubs can u give me some tips

  • You're right indeed. We, as begginers, usually worry more about hitting the ball long and use excesive strenght which is the main error. I have no problems hitting irons straight and long (except long irons, impossible) and still got some more hitting a driver. Thanks for the add, and if you can advice me about I'd really appreciate.

  • I think this is what my problem may very well be in my golf swing. I feel my hips dont clear in time and i become flippy through impact which in turn make me feel very inconsistant and frustrated. Take a look at my golf swing guys and tell me if you agree. thanks.

  • Why do you only talk about hand release. The first of the three is actually a better move as long as you don´t push the hands forward when you have released the body.

  • good video...had to watch a few times. i have also used dave nevogt's simple golf swing system to sort this sort of thing out. for those interested, check out my video on the subject...

  • To correct my swing release I swing a towel on a wall or mat. The harder I hit the wall the better the release timing. I rocmmend a short game video on grip pressure. I significantly change mine depending on the shot, is this right?

  • @theMANxGOLFER - Hmmmm, there's different schools of thought on grip pressure with associated pros and cons...so it would depend on who you ask. Personally, I don't intentionally change mine from shot to shot.

  • thanks for the great video

  • @MrMick73 - Saw this in BBC article today regarding whether or not Tiger thinks about his release...

"Woods is working on his swing & other technical aspects of his game with coach Sean Foley but said his problem area is not just related to his off the tee concerns. "It could be pitch shots as well because I have to change everything - it's the whole release pattern," "...how I release irons, drivers, they are all related."

  • I want you to make a video with a full swing and NOT release the club head.

Im sure Gravity & centrifugal force will defeat you.

  • releasing the club head ? what a crock , do you really think Tiger thinks about realeasing the club head on hsi down swing , or does that Negro just swing at speed. Friggen golf tards

  • @MrMick73 - Tiger may or may not be thinking about how he releases the club head. The only way to know for sure would be to ask him personally. Certainly when one makes any swing changes (like Tiger is again - now with Foley), at least for awhile you have to consciously think about what you are doing until the skill can be passed over to the unconscious mind and one can swing freely.

  • @jaacobbowden No one needs to concentrate on releasing the club head , flat wrist , straight arm, bent elbow, flying elbow, swing plane , back plane, back pain racing brain.

If your body is in the correct position at impact , all of the other bullshit just happens , it can't not happen.

Just watch the Ben Hogan Videos.

Dont swing your arms to hit a golf ball.

  • Good advice, keeping the club head back gives you more power. My problem is i release to soon because it feels natural but i agree that keeping the club back makes you hit down on the ball which produces more speed and power. This sport is to hard as soon as i think i figured things out, i get into a hitting slump and always teak my technique until that tweak fails and i try something else after. Golf is all about confidence and experience. Overtime you eventually make less mistakes

  • Great advice....how quickly we forget the little things!

  • Golf is a physically demanding sport, and a great golfer needs to stay flexible and be in great shape. The pro’s spend thousands of dollars on golf fitness trainers and coaches to help keep them on top of their game, but for me that was not a possibility. After years of complaining about my game plateauing and about being sore from playing so much I knew I had to do something about it, but after a few stretches I was lost.

A colleague of mine showed me this great tool!

  • THE BEST TEACHES IS DAN SHAUGER I HAD A LESSON WITH DAN NOW HIT GOLF BALL STRAIGHT DOWN LINE NOW AND MY PUTTING TO DAN NO WHAT HE TALKING GAME OF GOLF THANK AGAIN DAN GREAT TEACHES

  • Jaacob it's great to see how successful you are doing since your days in Calif - not to mention MISSOURI! Hope you have continued success, and I'll be joining your site soon enough.

  • @Matt10L Thanks! :-)

  • WHY DONT YOU JUST GO HOME, BALL!! ARE YOU TOO GOOD FOR YOUR HOME? ANSWER ME! SUCK MY WHITE ASS, BALL!

  • Good stuff Jaacob! Hope you're doing well.

  • It's a good practis tip and reminder! Thanks from Holland

  • Yeah right, the brain quickly adapts... is 20 years quick??

  • watch golfers trying to do tricks on my channel

  • Lol omg im a beginner and never knew about this! no wonder i keep topping the ball, and slicing it! Jeeez your a saviour. =]

  • @TheMaximiize When you are beginning many times you top the ball because you yank your head up to see your shot. Try keeping your head down and following through with your shoulders. When I started out I would go to the driving range and hit slowly just so i would be cognizant of when I did exactly that. good luck!!

  • Good tip, thanks, cured my slice.

  • Sounds like Billy Bob Thornton!

  • More shitty golf tips from Youtube.

  • Try this drill. It should help all of us to improve our timing of the release of the club head.

  • Thank you -- great tip

  • i like burritos

  • Basics, so easy to learn, grip, stance and posture, so do that first, lots of help on this site for those three things. The biggest thing that I have learned to do ( and this has been huge for me ) swing at the ball with soft arms and hands and hit the ball with @ 80% of your power.

Not only did I hit more fairways but I got the ball out there, no no I can't hit the ball 300 yds but on our 3rd. hole ( 410 yds. ) I hit driver 7iron on average. So simple basics, then soft hands, smooth swing .

  • As in many golf instruction videos so called " instructors " tend to complicate the swing. I'm just an average guy who enjoys his golf, I'm 64 years old and still learning every time I tee it up. I used to be an 18 handicap player my handicap is now 8 and I can sure play to my 8 so it's not a flash in the pan.

There certainly is a multitude of helpful instruction on this website when it comes to golf, oh by the way, there is no secret, I have a few ideas that may work for you, so next text.

  • please view my videos and give me tips if you know enough about golf:)

i am a good player looking for the trained eye

  • Thanks to you my swing is soooooo dangerous now. thumbs up and swing by sometimes.

  • A $20 bill for you if you can answer this and it works... I'm 56 and have a good swing, very limber. If I start a round after hitting 6-10 range balls, I keep the ball in the fairway and on line. But after a few holes, I start to pull or sometimes push/fade my shots. Am I just loosing my timing or over swinging as I warm up? What can I do to hit consistently since my muscles and joints change during the round? If I hit 25-30 warm-up shots, I may not hit #1 fairway.

  • @xvirg - Couple quick suggestions for the limited space here in the comment section...but you might take your video camera with you on the course & record your swings to see if you can isolate what changes for you. You could also do a quick meditation on it. Get in the shower or in a quiet space to calm yourself down & then once your mind is quiet just ask yourself what is changing. Often times when your brain is free of all the noise and clutter, the answer will just pop right in your head.

  • guys. find my flaws plz

  • You sound just like Bill Paxton, can you please say "GAME OVER MAAANNN" in your next video? That would be cool.

  • @fookfocketyfookfook - hehe, I've heard that from a couple of people

  • @fookfocketyfookfook Good Call...LOL

  • Great video. Need to work on my swing for sure. Since a shoulder injury it's not the same anymore.

  • Certainly seem to be one of my problems. Especially with the driver. Is this what is meant by getting the club "stuck behind you"?

  • @OUfan49 You may want to try (experiment) with imagining this: flinging an apple off the end of your shaft - making sure you release the club head freely around your body. Or imagine a fishing rod: feel the load of weight/power in your wrists as it gets below yoiur waist "cast" the club head throught the ball hard!! (feeling like your head is actually going backwards as clubead goes away from you through impact.)

  • @YaaashMichaelScott I like to imagine flinging some mayonnaise off the end of my shaft, releasing my head soon after. I can really feel the power of my wrists below my waist before this release ugggggghhhhhh

  • @fookfocketyfookfook Way to take the gay out... -"No Homo".

  • you are handsome!!!!

  • 1st... If yours grip is too tight. the release won't happen. Your grip needs to be no firmer than what is allowed to maintain a relaxed feel. Maybe a 4 in a 1-10 scale. You have to experiment. One tip I like was to grip the club like you are holding a bird securely without squeezing it. Your grip will tighten slightly naturally as you take it back.. Once the wrist is cocked try hitting the ball hard as if it were a nail and the club a hammer. The release should happen naturally..

  • Hey im looking for some good advice to fix my swing from people who know what there talking about. Just type in Clint Kuglar 3 wood in the search bar. Thank you!

  • if someone could answer my question it would be a of great help. when he says you want to release the head just after you would make contact with the ball, does this mean your hands should be just over the ball when you begin to release the club head? i'm kind of confused on that.

  • @ILoveChappy - Some of the best laggers still have 90 degrees between the club and their lead forearm as the hands are approaching the rear leg on the downswing from a face-on viewpoint...but still get full extension by the time they hit the ball or very shortly after the strike. Working to achieve that would give you a good amount of pop on the ball.

  • @jaacobbowden okay thanks man. I never really focused on the release of my club in the past, but i think ill be able to make my swing a lot more consistent just practicing the release.

  • The Number one reason if you are slicing or hooking the ball too much - chances are you are swaying your hips too much, meaning your body weight is shifting outside your right foot if you are a right handed golfer.

Try to load properly against your right leg engaging your large large muscles in your back to make the coil. This will get your club on the correct plane and will give you maximum power and consistency. Learn to pivot properly and it will greatly improve your game.

  • This is my main problem.. I can get it worked out on the range but I revert back to holding on to long on the course.

When I used an interlocked grip I hit my irons straight as an arrow but I moved to an overlap grip due to pain in my pinky finger and ever since have had a late club release.

Never could hit my driver straight heheh.

  • Great video on how to learn to release the club head. Looking at yourself swing in front of a mirror is easy and a very good idea.

  • could you look at my swing video and give me any advise, please.

  • This guy sounds like Napoleon Dynamite!

  • Great video. I had just started releasing the club today, and looked at vids to confirm what I'm doing.

The increase in power is definitely noticable, and the ball gets compressed every time. Some videos on youtube are saying "Don't flip the wrists" - they should be more specific, as they could discourage people from properly releasing.

    Nice...

  • Thanks, glad it helped.

...and good comment about not flipping vs. discouraging a release. :-)

  • I've been playing for a little over a year...I tend to pull my irons but push or slice my driver and woods. Is this a common problem?

  • Have you been custom fit for your clubs? If you are pulling your irons, they might be a little bit too upright. Scroll through our channel...we've got several videos about pulls and slices that may be useful for you.

  • I have not... I have my eyes on a set of AP1 Titelist irons. The videos are helpful but I am afraid I already have some bad habits to break :)

  • If you decide to get the AP1s, have the lie angles bent to fit your swing. It won't cost much (some places even throw it in as part of the purchase), but it's very worthwhile...it's kind of like getting the right size shoe because not everyone fits in to the average size (which is how clubs are built). Tiger actually has his irons bent up 1 degree.

  • ahhh good stuff.. this is exactly my problem.. 1000000 thanks

  • why would you give information away for free.??

  • I give some things away so people have an idea of what to expect when working with me or signing up for my website. :-)

  • Because you will get rewarded in greater ways than charging by the hour.

  • 0:25 - 0:28 wtf thats all there is to it no way takes ages to get a good golf swing

  • not really, it only took me like two weeks

  • i have realised that your are right lol since i left that comment i have learnt to play golf and my coach told me i have an exellent swing and it took me 3 weeks lol

  • hahaha thats awesome man good job

  • all these mechanical instructions are good but they all come with in to play when you relax your whole body, align yourself comfortably to the ball with your club, then follow through with a swing while having keep you lead foot straight during the follow through.. If you think about all the things you gotta do you'll never hit the ball right

  • It helped me alot i have just changed my grip so i slise bigtime its horrible but i have to do it to become better, i dident "released the club" so im gonna try that tommorow on the driving range! maybe hit 400 yards :)

  • in all ur carreer as a golfer u will never hit 400 yards.

  • 400 yards huh....you either don't know golf or don't know distance

  • so i dont know golf ? im 13 and i have played for sinse i was 2 years. and it was just for fun :)

  • you dont "Know" anything at 13 years old kid... lol

  • If your using the Spin The Meatball techn. wouldn't you simply hit the ball with your hands leading the club head and then release,to the finish.

If your using a conventional method U would rotate your left hand 90 degrees counter clockwise just prior to impact, keeping the right hand bent back 45 degrees. This should actually all happen without manipulation,if your grip is correct. If you just use your chipping swing and then make the swing longer it is the same point of contact most shots.

  • There is absolutely no point in doing this drill! It makes no sense!

  • This video doesnt help much if the problem is not turning the hands fast enough. Often a slice is the result of the hands not turning enough leaving the clubface open at impact. Remember, your hands should be closed in the followthrough. The palm of you right hand should face the ground after hitting the ball.

  • Exactly. Another web over-simplification of a fairly complex maneuver. Other flaws could be:

Bad shaft angle halfway down. Aggressively turning the hips too early. Failure to aggressively turn through the hit. Lead-hand knuckles not pointing down at impact, etc., etc., etc.

  • i would lmao if i saw someone swing like at 2:22

  • Yeah, it looks funny, eh? hehe

  • i've been releasing too late and i'm trying to find that balance between too late of a release and a too early one.. with a more neutral grip (just changed it) its tough... this helped me out though tomorrow i'll go try your tip

  • Hope it works for you!

  • well i'm still getting there lol

  • This is great! Im glad I found this...I have benn struggling with slices and shanks for 3 long weeks and now I know the problem beyond me sucking!! I have delayed the clubhead to long, coming through with an open club face.

  • Nice to hear the video has helped you. If you continue to have problems, you might also check the other videos on our channel that deal with shanks and slices. ;-)

  • he should try the robot dance he would be so gd

  • check my swing out any tips welcome

  • iv been told that you shouldnt try to release its just automatic when you swing right

  • I would agree with that. Swinging fluidly and without interference will help the club automatically release just after impact or the bottom of your swing. I think a lot of people try and force a release...or just have a lot of tension in the wrists and forearms from swinging too hard or trying to control the shot - both of which can hinder the "automatic" release.

  • honestly when im swinging my best i just make a swing and dont think about any mahanics

  • That's a great place to be. :-)

  • Too true.

  • THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VIDEO!!

  • This is ok instruction but the set-up and take away are much more important. Key swing thought in take-away; keep the club head square for the first couple of feet, do not open the club head: in other words do not lay the club head open!! Remember this when starting the backswing; Low, Slow and Square!!

  • Yes, of course the set-up and take-away are of greater importance in the overall golf swing. However, the video is entitled "Releasing the Club Head". Therefore, the emphasis in this video is on the technique of club release. What use would it be to someone who struggles with releasing the clubhead, to click on this video, only to find instruction on set-up and take-away? The "much more important" information is thereafter rendered useless.

  • I agree. A good swing will always produce a good release. Halfway down achieve a good shaft angle. At impact: back of lead hand square to the target with lead hand "knucks-down". Left side pulling out of the way so that the right side can contribute. Trying to control/time the clubhead directly will only throw off your overall timing and body positions.

  • Sure thing, glad to help. :-) If you like, we also have a Facebook group you can join...and there are more tips and instruction on our website.

  • Thank You for posting help on you tube (newbie 2 golf)
