@runbabyrun001 Fortunately, I didn't buy my 135i for other people to look at. Initially I was set on a 335i, but preferred the feel of the 1 series. And yes, most other cars are slower. I'm sure that there'd be even fewer competitors with an extra 85hp for just $500. Aesthetical appeal is subjective, most either love or hate the look.

Who cares if it's nippy?!?! It's still not something anyone would like to own. I'm not even mentioning that as a fad it's bound to age pitifully.
From a communication strategy perspective - are customer really interested in this (see comments below)? And what is it that's new and groundbreaking about this approach?

@DnScream i personally think the whole "new" design is a rip-off from VW and Audi, glued together with BMW elements. The result is therefore not as good as usual.
So... I'll stick to my E87 for 2 more years ;) There's hope for a new series ;)
When I look at this new 1 serie car it seems not be what people would like it to, I mean for young people who wants to have a sport car and likes BMW the old 1 was way better, now it lookes like made for people who wants a family car but don't have cash for 3/5/7 ...IMO you are doing it wrong. Even if the engine and acceleration are better than in the old 1, with this design it won't look like a sport car for youngs.
Cool video, neat song, and impressive manufacturing process. Too bad the headlights make the resulting car look so ugly. And I'm a BMW fan (in fact, my E92 was made in this same factory in Regensburg!)!
I wonder why a brand that searches for the 'emotions in driving' creates such a cold industrial video with digital computarised sounds? somehow it feels like it's not 'their style'.
Not yet a year ago, every1 made fun of the stupid Audi constructors, coming up with an A6 and A8 almost equal in shape. They said no one would buy an A8 if the A6 looks the same, now BMW comes up with a 1 Series, that looks like a 3 and a 5 Series crossover, just to save cost using equal/synergie parts. - Sounds stupid to me, but the market will proove if it is...

1. der neue 1er ist grottenhässlich.
nur weil jeder rumheult, wenn er "bangle" als verantwortlichen designer hört, muss man jetzt einen vollkommen anderen weg einschlagen.
ich fand die designs von bangle sehr gut, schön wenn auch brachial.
sportliche eleganz war erkennbar.
der neue einser sieht einfach nur scheisse aus.
irgendwie hab ich auch das gefühl, BMW versucht audi nachzueifern... ich kann beim besten willen von vorne den 5er und 7er nicht unterscheiden.

I travel every month to Regensburg -awesome place.
But I prefer the new 5er Convertible or M3 instead of the 1er series - demand respect.
Better plant is the one in Dingolfing - a shift change is like evacuating a city...
