  • My favorite band since I first heard them in 1987. I was lucky to have seen them in Miami in 1988.

  • The first Lindup song I ever heard, before I knew the band well and knew that Mike Lindup had a song on each album. At the time, I had the impression this was the guitarist (Boon) singing!

5 (don't forget Wally) amazing artists!!!

  • WHY DON'T THEY COME TO BRAZIL? LEVEL'S SONGS ARE THE COLORS OF RIO DE JANEIRO'S LANDSCAPE ON THE SUMMER!!!!!

  • Love this song so much. I'm a first grader during it's release and heard it when I'm 18. Strikes me in the heart unti now...

  • Wicked song....

  • Great track of what I consider to be the last great Levels album. Not the same without Phil's funky drumming.

  • Level42 gave me the inspiration to begin writing music again after over 20 years - I have since gone onto discover some good artists and sign them to my own independent record label over the past 6 years.

Since 2005 I have composed some 180 pieces of music.

Thank you Mark, Mike, Boon & Phil, forever in your debt.

    Terry Cullern

  • Theres a few songs that really hit you in the heart. This is one of them, along with

Pride by u2 and Ordinary World by Duran Duran

  • So sweet.

  • Listen to the low tom hit before each measure.

  • Mike is the best vocalist of all time. "PEOPLE" is the best song ever made by the boys along with OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND. Genius.

  • is so positive this music

  • very pleasant song, easy on the ears.

  • One of there lesser known songs in the mainstream but well know to the hardcore fans as one of their great ballads

  • @markallitt well said love this

  • This brings back so many wonderful memories...a brilliant song! Thanks for posting x

  • Excellent vid thank you for sharing it.

  • Nice Testimony mate, truly:). This is a great song too:)

  • This band saved my life. I lost everything when I was about 27, parents, the home a grew up in - everything. It was about that time that Level 42 became popular and - already a Bass Player, I took to learning Marks style and their music. I loved it so much. It helped me get by. I'll never meet them but I'm forever grateful for what they gave me in their music. I'm alive today because of them.

  • it's very beatiful to read this :)

  • @paulturcott

Really glad to hear this that this band helped you,.....they are my alltime fave band and after 28 years I finally got to meet them, shook hands, photos all in one night.. a night to remember always.....

  • @paulturcott Very beautiful and personal comment.

  • @paulturcott

That's Awesome! Glad you're still in the land of the living.

    I love Level 42.

  • @paulturcott wow impressive comment....

  • @paulturcott Thanx for your posting - sometimes i feel the same, although i don´t lost my parents or my home. I think the music of Level 42 is good for your inner health and blow away my darkest thoughts. I´m glad to know the music of Level 42. Stay alive and be glad to be a fan of the greatest british music giants.

  • @paulturcott i loved their music as well and i lost the album, i'll look for a cd copy.

  • @paulturcott Terrific story, paul. I am happy to say that I HAVE met them, and they were awesome guys. I remember Mark being very outgoing and friendly, and kind of a goofball when posing with fans. Mike was a little more reserved, and Phil Gould was very camera-shy (he never took his shades off). They remain to this day one of my all-time favorite bands.

  • I love this song so much. It really means a lot to me and brings back some good feelings of childhood :)

  • first time i heard this tune was when i was in my "jazz-nazi" stage in miami., acoustic bass..period....this tune may have been very influencial in making me open to other types of music.....i know for a fact that hearing mark king's wonderful playing during my "coming up" period has had an influence in my playing........ first time i heard the tune , hair on arms stood up....

  • This is a soundtrack of this movie ?

  • doesnt the melody sound like "I cant go yet" in the begining of the song?

  • I always enjoy discovering music that i may of overlooked......And somehow i managed to overlook Level 42 LMAO.

Wow, their music is some of the best from the 80's!!!

Im now on the hunt for all of their records as we speak.

    Peace and god bless!!

  • Just in case you haven't found it yet, this song comes from the Running In The Family album.

  • Thanks for the info! I found the album, now Im looking for the 12"

  • It's a shame they split..it's a perfect example of great musicians working together contributing ideas..I guess It's Over!

  • Merci ! "Running in the family" est le dernier album fabriqué avec les fréres Gould.

  • Beautiful song, just beautiful !!!

I'm a huge fan of Phil Gould's groove and good taste, class.

  • This is the best track off the "Running in the Family" album, hands down. Not surprisingly, written by Lindup.

  • Mike Lindup. he was the real b's and e's of the band. And such a cute smile and beautiful voice.

  • How the hell did the clip from the silly Starsky & Hutch movie make it into this video montage???

  • Favorite section: 1:59 - 2:21 :D

  • Absolutely agree!! Hair on my arms stand up!! :D

  • Two Solitudes, Lying Still and Silence are amazing songs. I got into L42 aroung 84-85. I'm still a fan and a bass player to boot.

  • I became a bass player because of Mark King, but it was Mike Lindup's tunes on the albums that I always loved. There was often just one song from him.

  • If you like Mike's tracks try Lasso the Moon from their Guaranteed album its beautiful

  • unbelievable track!!!! Love the Guaranteed cd!!!!

  • This is from the running in the family cd :)

  • Amen!! That's one of the most romantic & beautiful songs ever!

  • level 42 the best

  • this was a great jam. u just don't get this kind of song anymore. songs that mean something and touches the heart.

  • I think this is one of the best Level 42 offerings.... SUCH a great track - and that middle 8....woah!

    Superb - thanks.

  • My eyes getting wet to heard this song ...

  • i know me too vie .. its one of my faves off that album :D

  • Level 42 one of my ALL TIME favorite groups. Their sound is so pure and lyrics come from a very soulful zone.

  • I still love level 42, i listen to them almost every morning in my car going to work. It brings back memoryes from the past.....please bring me back to the eightees where all the best music was made.

  • This album helped me keep my sanity during high school, too! Thanks for posting!

  • This was my first Level album.. what great memories. It kept me sane during high school. Man, music was really turning bad by '87.. Salt n Pepa PUSH IT just crap and plenty more where that came from, Level was pretty much unknown in the states, and it was a cool thing to play it for people and see how much they liked them. I always imagined this being sung by Boon the guitar player, it was before I knew about Lindup's one song per album =P

  • Had to laugh at your Americans comment. I thought I was the only teenager in the US who liked level back in the 80's. Of course, I lived in a backwoods hicktown where cattle roping was bigger than football...... They got me through high school, too.:)

  • naavywife ... i felt the same thing but for me it was in Canada ... that just makes me think i m right . there are more of us in north america that that have loved their music all these years then we know :D !!

  • LOL I thought I was the only L42 fan from hicktown, too! And, like you, they were what got me through my teenage years.

  • This song is the bomb!!--Loved it in 1987 and love it today in 2008!!--Level 42 Rules!!

  • on of their best albums

  • love this song. first heard on radio 99.5RT! "the rythm"

  • You mean to tell me this song got air play in the States. I thought I heard it in the mall one day in '88 but I wasn't sure. Right now I am working on this song with just vox and acoustic guitar. I love this song the most with Lying Still, Why are You Leaving. This is just a bad ass song. The chords are hard too because they keep inverting them.

  • huh? what are u saying? im talking about the radio station in manila back in the 80's. its 99.5RT "the rhythm".

  • this is a beautiful song its my first time hearing it.

  • This entire album is great. In case you wanted some info, it is calle "Running in the Family," a great piece of work from 1987.

If you like this song, you'll like the album.

  • I don't get Owen Wilson and Ben Stiller at 2:08 of this clip. They weren't even in the movie so where did this caption come from? Evidently the image is from their movie, "Starsky and Hutch". This is the only part of the clip I see a problem with.

  • OMG...I am so reliving my childhood here. I grew up in a very rural town in the SE US and it was so UNCOOL to like L42, but I loved them. LOL I made all my friends listen and now they're fans. I would listen to this cd and this song everyday. As a kid I didn't quite get it, but now I do, and I appreciate it so much more. Thank you so much for posting this. You have made my day.

  • Like me - my Grandfather played 'Leaving Me Now' on his old tape-recorder one day and I was hooked.

The likes of Level 42, Queen, Quo, U2, Dire Straits etc. will be around longer than the modern rubbish. Their music is forever.

  • What a beautiful song. Level 42 could reach the sublime. These is simply does not happen any more.SOme of their songs are a awesome.

  • Running in the Family was one of the albums of the '80s.

I was living in France at the time and the French were absolutely mad about it. One of its vids was made in Paris as well.

Great stuff. Cheers for the posting.

  • The video made in Paris was Children Say

  • "And I wake at dawn to find you gone, don't even have the strength to call your name."

Quality song writing bless yah Phil Gould.

    Great drummer as well.

  • This is level 42 at their best!

  • level 42 the best

  • Your body still remembers what your heart learnt to forget.

    Class

  • .....It's 'Your body still remembers what your mind lives to forget'.....not heart.

  • Great stuff. I gotta go replace my cassettes with cds. How can people not like these guys?

  • Because the 'Cool Police' tell them not to.

  • This has to be one of the greatest songs produced by level 42.

The music is beautiful and the lyrics are amazing.

I go days just listening to this song alone.

  • pure musical genius

  • what's up with itunes? they don't have many albums and a total of 100 songs? Is Level 42 holding back on itunes? Any information would be helpful.

  • How good is this song i think level 42 did not make 1 bad song top stars from me ***** for all level 42 songs are you all with me on this comment ?

  • Definately. That's a mark of true quality - I can only think of a handful of bands that haven't done a bad song: Queen, The Beatles, Level 42 and a couple more

  • respect to you for replying to my comments i know there are good music fans out there that can appreciate music of this quality (thanks gavin )

  • that's quite alright, Beaverbox :)

  • I'm a huge Level 42, bu to say they never had a bad song is a bit extreme. Ever hear "The Ape" from their Guaranteed album? ugh.

  • cosign

    they was smokin sumthin

  • I think their earlier music was great. Standing in the Light, True Colors, World Machine, and their self-titled album. Guaranteed was the last great album they put out, although "RETROGLIDE" was o.k. I can't really say that I'm a huge fan of their last two albums, prior to RetroGlide. Mark King has some great solo work. Their concert DVD's are really great too! Their solo stuff is worth a listen as well!

With all of that said, they are one of the best groups out.

  • I've heard Mark King say in the past that he thought some of the songs that they did were in his words 'rubbish'. Wasn't sure of which songs he meant.

  • level 42 i think their the best and their song's are just great to listen to and if MARK KING want's to past judgement on his songs that his prerogative. What do you think of level 42s song ???

  • I'm not sure if Mark ever said that, but there is a well known quote from him saying that the music they done was fantasic, then he has to spoil it by putting his vocals on some of those songs.

The Running in Family album is basically split into two parts, part one is the sequencer driven songs like lessons in love, to be with u and fashion fever, part two is It's over, this track playing, sleepwalkers. It's not the best album but these tracks make up for it.

  • Boon Gould looks a bit like Richard Madeley.

  • This is one of the best songs from the "Running in the Family" album.

  • Que hermosa canción!! Sin duda Level 42 es una de las mejores bandas

  • wow! i love this song. tnx for the upload. hope you can upload a video of them playing this song live!

  • Questa bellissima canzone mi ricorda quando nel lontano Giugno 1987, Federica mi spezzò il cuore...

Però non é un brutto ricordo.. perché almeno una volta nella vita bisogna aver patito in amore...credo sia quasi..necessario!

    Ciao Federica M.

    Enrico B.

  • Didn't understand a word but I think that you just said is cool

  • this is sally field's favorite album of level 42 i remember this song played on her old web site in 1996

  • This song remind me and my husband fall in love for the first time. I am happy Mike Lindup come back to this band. So, maybe theres any possiblity we have a chance to heard this song live in concert. Hehehe ... MAYBE !

  • Marvelous!!!!! My favorite song!!!!

  • My favorite Level 42 song! Beautiful melody...

  • This goes to show that this music from this band still rules to this day.........The SHIT we hear today on radio and music videos sucks and always will. And just for the record....FUCK RAP MUSIC.......That shit is NOISE....not music! If you don't write, play, and perform your own material..then get out!

  • Can't say I completely agree with you ther, todays rap music , yes, I agree, no substance. But if you get the chamnce listen to a Tribe called Quest and the Pharcyde and many more from that genre and you might, just might change your mind a little. Of course I do love Level 42 and so does my 8 year old right now and that's a good thing today.

  • If the bands you mentioned write, play, and perform their own material, more power to them. If they do not, then your opinion is rather pointless wouldn't you say?

  • Check them out for yourself and let me know. BTW I just love this tune what album is this on?

  • It's on the 'Running in the Family" CD.

  • Thanx

  • oh i ve always loved this song from that album ... i LOVED ALL the songs on Running in the Family .. 'one love .. two solitudes ' !

  • Running in the Family was a great piece of work. Cheers for the posting.

  • Agreed!....Great album!

  • PLT, good job! Any chance of doing a video like this to Kasnsas City Milkman?

  • Nice tune. Thought they did instrumentals very well too...like "Gresham Blues"!

  • I don't no the movie, but the music is great. One of Level 42's best song from the RITF-album. I love their music....

  • Maria was very beautiful. I wish there was more about the actress who played her on the internet.

  • The most interesting scenes of the movie are missing. The attacks of julia and maria.

  • You know they are not going to show that. LOL. To graphic. They never did show how Maria died. Pity all

that screaming and know one heard her.

  • this is a superb superb tune!!!!

  • Great track,great movie,great video well done plt694
