I'm not sure if the Samurai used it though, I thought they used Judo/regular Jiu Jutsu but they probably did use Aikido. It is good self defense but so is MMA/Muay Thai, all martial arts are good defense but martial arts like Krav Maga and Aikido are especially focused on selfdefense.
