Does anybody else think its odd that when she speaks about women suffrage, she says that "Islam" (a religion) gave women the right to vote? And then criticized the US (a country) about when it gave it to women? The country in which you reside grants you your right to vote, not your religion. Also, If It was Islam that gave women the right to vote so long ago, the why couldn't Iranian women vote until the 1960s? Why can't Saudi women vote until 2015? Bad argument all around.

@Ethanphilbin You're technically correct when you say countries grant rights & not religions, from a secular perspective. But from a religious perspective God grants the rights and it's up to the people to implement those rights in society. This is what happened in 6th Century Arabia.

Regarding modern Saudi Arabia women can't vote, drive, etc. because of restrictions placed on them by the government, not Islam. LIGHTBULB: Islam is not implemented correctly in most so-called "Islamic" countries!

@angelsburningbright Your lord is no different from any other man-lord, eg Garnesh, Shiva, Krishna, Dionysus. You god/lord was born & died, and is not all-knowing or eternal. Your god cannot be equal to the transcendent Supreme Being.That without doubt makes you a polytheist!

Western women embracing Islam are as foolish as a vegetarian embracing bullfighting. Many women find Islam appealing because of the charity, hospitality and peace that is in the Quran. They are never told that the mind of a woman is considered to be half as trustworthy as a man, and deficient compared to Man. Women who accept the medieval teachings of Islam are women that have little confidence and get told that they feel inferior because they are a woman. Islam is sexist in all aspects.

Hmm, so can you explain to me why did a chauvinist religion offer women financial rights to their late father/husband's will, education, marital/divorce rights in the 7th century? While such liberties were only know to the Europeans after the Industrial Revolution in the 18th Century

@zeluvpe Who told you that these rights were not known to Europeans before the 18th century? Roman law gave far more rights to women than Islam does. That's not an opinion, I can show you the Roman laws if you wish. Also, when you read the Quran, you can clearly see that it's laws copy 80% of the Torah, which is a book that was written before the Roman law existed. Also, you do not adress that we do not live in the 18th century, but the 21st, and lots of progress has been made inbetween.

@underdogg20 ever think that the Quran, Gospel and Torah are similar because they came from the same God? That's what Muslims and some orthodox Jews believe. Torah Psalms Gospel Quran, all scriptures from Allah. I'm not too informed on Roman laws so no comment on that.

@zeluvpe Sure, Islam might have been beneficial to women's rights in the 7th century compared to the 6th century, or Judaism, or whatever beliefs the Arabs had before Muhammed. But a Muslim believes that the teachings of the Quran are the teachings of God, applicable to all times and all places. Do you think it would be progressive to women's rights (and men's rights as well) if Western societies implemented Shariah law? Or do you believe that we have grown out of the morals of the 7th century?

@J3DIforce1 She's simply giving examples of some harmful effects of alcohol, which you cannot deny the truth of it. Many accidents, depression in families and abuse do arise/caused due to alcohol consumption. And about the divorces, I'm not sure about the statistics, but the bottom line is what's important, that infidelity is a reason behind divorce. So, basically she's stating the things forbidden in Islam, and reasons why=that they are harmful to you physically, mentally, socially, etc...

This was a great lecture. Everything she said was very powerful and true. I hope both muslims and non muslims learn more about islam from this well spoken speech. The only thing I am confused about is if women and men must lower their gazes when passing each other, how can a women go to a stranger mans house for three weeks to treat Him? Is this like an Exception for necessary Treatment? For that does make sense if its necessary...

Everybody talks trash about the woman condition in Islam but nobody talks about the fact that hindu actually have to pay to "get rid" of their daughters. Nobody talks about the fact that in the West we hire cute and sexy wearing clothes women first.

Nobody talks about the fact Islam gave women right to inherite several hunder years before any other civilization in the world did.

This is because people watch TV about Islam and never actually read the Quran. They are hypocrits.

@Victortrotska ..Exactly. I'm an American, worked within Texas colleges full time for nearly twelve years. My American students ("Christian") sold-smoked weed, became pregnant, unmarried, slept with males and females, got picked up for DUI (again), cheated on tests, cheated on boyfriends and girlfriends, couldn't live sober....read the Koran, watched FOR MYSELF the actual lives and lifestyles of Muslim students, sober, focused, law abiding, faithful, never dressed like tramps, etc. I reverted.

We must continue to fight by showing the unfair ones through our daily life actions (being generous, nice, open minded etc...) and words (kind, without hate, intelligent...) what Islam is.

about the stats- she got that off either by whole US or most calculated states- and it was estimated because each year, each state in the US decide to make rule changes on domestic voilence- they take action and are arresting more and more drunkards to prevent futher domestic voilence cases and urge people to get help, so it varies each year, and each sensus.
