For me to shoot a deer, If the vitals aren't showing, i dont shoot. I've seen deer with their jaws shot off that were starving from a fail headshot. Otherwise, i guess it's a quick kill if you're accurate enough.

great shot reminds me of woodchucking in PA with my 223 Rem..tall grass head only shot you could see the red vapor in the scope after the hit...or about the time deer hunting in PA with my Browning 06 and hand loaded ammo...on a ridge about 75yds caught the white antler against the green pines running right to left...only had time to put the scope up directly in front of me and waited for the antlers to show up...squeezed the trigger WOW a nice six point down 50yds to my left...great stuff

My hunter safety teacher says that a shot in the head can either mean: An instant death where the deer just experiences the world instantly going black OR, it will experience its time perception slowing down, and an incredible amount of pain for up to what the deer sees as 500 seconds, but is actually only a half second. Just do the upper spine, neck, or heart.

great shot reminds me of woodchucking in PA with my 223 Rem..tall grass head only shot you could see the red vapor in the scope after the hit...or about the time deer hunting in PA with my Browning 06 and hand loaded ammo...on a ridge about 75yds caught the white antler against the green pines running right to left...only had time to put the scope up directly in front of me and waited for the antlers to show up...squeezed the trigger WOW a nice six point down 50yds to my left...great stuff

My hunter safety teacher says that a shot in the head can either mean: An instant death where the deer just experiences the world instantly going black OR, it will experience its time perception slowing down, and an incredible amount of pain for up to what the deer sees as 500 seconds, but is actually only a half second. Just do the upper spine, neck, or heart.

@mikedvc thanks for the comment, but honestly bud it looks alot different on camera than it really did! You could see out there for quite a ways! It was pretty open! It does look like he's on a ridge and were not aware of the background, but that's not the case!! Watch mule deer shot (best ever) and you'll see! Take care man!

Yes, when I went to hunter safety I was taught "shoot for the neck, if you miss you'll probably git him in the head".
Oh BTW did you see the other hunter just over the ridge behind the deer you shot?
