I got right to the part where you have to delete installation and it showed it didnt have a config.php. It gave you the code which I copied and pasted into the public.html but it hasnt worked. It still says no config file. Anyone have any ideas what I do next - Please!
Oh man, screwed up at the part after installation, deleted the whole file and reuploaded it, using FTP .. file .. by .. file .. Took hours :/ Didn't see the annotations ..
Alex, I think I said this before, but you are the best. This is just one great tutorial video - fast paced, informative, intelligent, yet easy to follow. Bless you, bless you, bless you.
Bless you Alex! I was stuck in Step 5 and even the Joomla forums couldn't figure it out (or people weren't interested in helping someone new). I bypassed Step 5 and got to Step 6. I did have a problem with the configuration.php file, but the instructions in installation said to copy the code and upload to my root directory. I am installing Joomla in a sub domain for testing and eventual move to the main site domain. Thank you again!
Hi Alex. I just watched both of your tutorials and recommended them to my hubby. They were very easy to follow and trully educational. I am not a technie but I always wanted to know how to upload templates etc especially after paying out so much money for website development to people who just use these very same FREE JOOMLA templates, customize them and sell them for lots of money. Now thanks to you I can simply do it myself!!!
I think the reason you can't logout after changing your user information is because you are editing the user. If you hit close it will bring you back the the manager window and remove the editing lock on the user. You will then be able to logout. The same thing goes for editing articles and so on. The lock feature is to prevent more than one user from editing one thing at a time. This is only useful if you have more than one user able to edit articles.
Hi. I followed all the steps and when I went to the site, all their was was this message: No configuration file found and no installation code available. Exiting...
this happens when you delete the install folder too early. at 4:35 i even have an annotation that says to be very careful at that point. there are ways of saving the installation$ at this point, by manually creating the configuration.php file, but trust me when i say that unless you really know what you are doing it is absolutely best to simply start over.
the order you did things at that point did not matter so much with earlier versions of joomla 1.5 but for some reason that changed at some point and so you now HAVE TO click the site button before you delete the install folder. sorry for the trouble.
Thank you so much for this tutorial. It is so easy to follow and straight to the point. Also THANK YOU for having audio that YOU CAN HEAR. Take note other tutorialists! There are way too many tutorials that might be great but, even with the sound all the way up, you can't hear the audio clearly.
i love you videos. i'm trying to set up a website using joomla also but in the installation process i am getting a configuration.php problem. then when i go to the site its showing that im missing some kinda configuration problem. cna you please help
man please help i uploaded joomla and everything then in the web setup it says the configuration, php is not writable but i changed the chmod in the file manager so i continued, if the config.php is not writable, i should get a code at the end right? a code that i have to put manually in the config.php file? but in the end i didn't get any code and if i try and go to admin or to my site it says webhost error please help me!
Great work Alex - I've signed up with the same company and have a question about whether it's possible once I've installed the standard Joomla installation to then import my own mysql database from my local machine over the top so I can upload a pre-configured site over the top of the standard one.
Thanks a million Alex! Why can't people be this straight forward and simple? You made my life a million times better tonite! God Bless you and give you more to share! Thanks thanks thanks...
Thanks Alex, this was a great step by step, I would have spent probably hours trying to figure this out. The install and set up went just like you demonstrated.
You have no fucking idea how much this helped me. I ran into a few errors but after making my own configuration file and uploading it with the code shit they gave me my site is now up in running. And I love you.
I'm an absolute neophyte and struggled for days trying to install Joomla before I found your tutorial. Brilliant! I can't imagine anyone not being able to install Joomla 1.5 with this kind of instruction -- you're a gem! Thanks!

Yep, and you should be able to point a domain (if you have one) to your ip and run it like that, but then, of course, your comp always has to be on, plugged in, and it sucks your processing power/bandwidth if you run it like that. I like the ease of just paying for hosting. If you ever want to move it to a hosted site, use JoomlaPack. Template editing goes like this - edit as much as you can through the templae admin panel. each template has different options.
If you need to do anything more serious, like make new positions, you can edit the template's index.php file directly. CSS is usually an amalgamation of several files, with layout.css (if it exists) usually being the most important. You an edit the css through the template admin, but i always just use ftp.
yeah, editing through CSS, HTML, & PHP gives me a headache. I just found out that I need to put these codes manually...and it's really confusing. Now I have to study how PHP works and those variables. OMG! Another busy day coming through...but anyway, thanks! You helped me a lot!
Yes of course. I happen to use cpanel, but you can use whatever admin tool your hosting provider gives you. I install joomla pretty much exactly like this on godaddy which doesn't have cpanel.
htaccess is a different thing. Before long you will see that you have to rename htaccess . txt to .htaccess, but that is another issue. Does it work when adding the "index . php" to the url ? If so, go forward with the install and hopefully wont be a problem later. DB's are not aware of Joomla or any other "script" that accesses them, it's the other way around.
At 0.13 you say "the next thing we are going to do is start the instillation"
What did you do here?
I go to my browser and type in any url on this hosting account and nothing happens - am i missing something - did you double click instillation in cpanel?????
at the very beginning of this vid (part 2) i am looking over the uploaded files to see that everything go uploaded. This is just a cursory look to see any obvious problems: there are at least lots of files there, so looks good, but it is possible (though unlikely) that something went missing along the way (it does happen). Then, at :13, all I do is use my browser to navigate to my site. Joomla has put an index.php file there and it automatically then points to the installation folder.
if it doesn't do this for you, add the index . php to the url. eg. yoursite . com / index . php. Likely you have an index.html page masking index . php. I say in part 1 to make sure to delete such files.
No htaccess files or html, htm files etc in public_html - but not having it - will figure it out! Quick question: How does the new database created recognise the joomla extracted file - probably a stupid question!
You saved me Alex! This is a very good tutorial, keep up the great work! I can't thank you enough. I was about to pound my head up against the wall when I decided to run just one more search on this topic. This explained everything for me; from the Cpanel to the MySQL database creation and everything in between. Thanks again for this Super-excellent-terrifical-informative-awesomely explained-no B.S.-here it is plain and simple-cut and dry-complete tutorial. You're the best man!

1) the joomla package was uploaded to the root of your website and not a subfolder

htaccess is a different thing.
