  • Thank you for sharing this wonderful video of Ven. Thubten Chodron! Learning to bring peace into our own hearts and then freely giving it to others makes life meaningful and peace-filled. Buddhism isn't for everyone and is not meant to be. But for those to whom it speaks, loving the Dharma brings heaven to earth. Tashi delek!

  • The colors of the light beams described in the first video is white, red, blue. In the second video she says red, white, blue. Which is correct?

  • I do not understand how a person can 'own' sins or negativity such as killing another human or (at least) stealing and have enough 'goodness' in them to flush this out everday, how can someone hold on to such a history and progress in the buddhist way?

Surely it would be better to start a new, to be a person who is free from the burdens of the past. If there is no self, then the creator of the negative energy was merely a delusion, and as such should not be allowed to affect the present being.

  • Beautiful explication

  • thank you!

  • Thank you for sharing this! Namaste!

  • if you remove the flawed idea of karma you won't need to prostrate all it takes is common sense. How about that wisdom =)

BTW what's with the Neo-Nazi haircut? I've never understood why all Buddhist want to look like neo-nazis. Actually I've never seen a Buddhist negro...

Who made up the swastika again? it's like a puzzle falling into place

  • @GodKillerAtheist It's Neo-Nazis wanting to look like monks, asshole.

If you search Buddhism in Africa, you will see an African monk.

    So shut the fuck up.

  • @KriztofferKriztenzen "If you search Buddhism in Africa, you will see an African monk."

So you're saying because a Black African,is a monk Buddhists can't be racist? That has to be the most failed logic I've ever heard. I know WHITE Christians/Muslims who are HELLA racist. I Know Black CHRISTIANS/Muslims who are HELLA racist. Religion doesn't end Racism it encourages it. It is the root of religion. Buddhism is no different I know many very very racist Buddhists.

  • @GodKillerAtheist You said you never had seen a black monk.

And secondly, have you ever read the bible/quran?

Islam, Christianity and Buddhism is world religions.

Even the word Catholicism means universal, which means for every people around the world.

Racism has nothing to do with Religion, especially not Christianity, Islam and Buddhism.

  • @GodKillerAtheist Yeah, you probably know many racist Buddhists/Muslims/Christians but that doesn't mean the religion is racist.

  • @GodKillerAtheist I never said that Buddhists can't be racist.

Read your previous comments instead of saying shit about other religions.

  • @GodKillerAtheist Buddhist monks have to skin their hair, so they don't need to concentrate on how they look and the hair doesn't get in their way.

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • Thanks Jesus!

I am a Catholic ! Church is more than enought for me!

  • @CharlieDoan You are a disgrace to Asian Culture.

  • scribd (dot) com/nb812

  • who did Buddha bow before?

  • @tangenss

    Ba La Mon

  • @tangenss what do you mean?

  • This is amazing...and this nun seems very very peaceful

  • she seems so pleasant! =)

  • The Buddha is not a god. A Buddha is someone who has already accomplished everything and all his activity is aimed at accomplishing the welfare of others.

  • Well, whatever, it IS a very useful video, because I now feel confident that I do prostrations the right way. I think that we westerners have way to much selfpity and pride, and this exercise is excellent for dealing with that!

  • With those who are sympathetic

Let us have discussion on Buddhism.

As for those whose point of view differs from ours Let us treat them politely and thus make them happy.(But) disputes are alien to our School, For they are incompatible with its doctrine.

    -Hui Neng

  • I disagree Hui Neng. We all have disputes in our lives, and we need to be completely open and frank about that. If we only suppress the negativity and force ourselves to be positive, we are on another ego-trip. Disputes can be very helpfull in showing a person where he or she's stuck, so lets not throw out the window such golden tools! The doctrine is not to have no disputes, but to make an end to suffering. That is not done by walking on eggs, but by living life boldly!

  • Wow...so much division! As long as awareness and good will is achieved, does the path one chooses matter so much? If one wishes to prostrate, then do so. If one wishes not to, then do not. If one takes comfort in words, then do so. If one does not, then do not. There is no "right" way, only an individual truth.

  • Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • Read TIPITAKA - The sacred text of Buddhism and you'll see the truth. You can find some of the text on internet

I agree with you . Knowledge is merely knowledge. Meditate base on Satipatana Sutta to see the ultimate truth. If we can't see the truth, we can't enlightened.

This is not how Buddhism is supposed to be. These are merely rites and rituals. Which is a hindrance to enlightenment.

Read, do research and meditate to realise the truth

  • How? I've read the Lotus Sutra and I think one should be cautious before making such a statement. Because there is not anything special about the lotus sutra and if you think a man made sutra can bring another person enlightenment from the simple act of reading it, then you know nothing about the buddha's path or enlightenment. The Lotus Sutra dosen't have any magic powers.

  • It's called Nichiren Buddhism. They believe that the Lotus Sutra is the best of all the sutras to study.

Now granted, I am not a Nichiren Buddhist so I don't really agree with it. However, there are instances in other sects of Buddhism where the hearing of a sutra caused a person to have satori. Such as Kaundinya after hearing the Buddha's lecture at Deer Park (in Theravada) or Huineng after hearing the Diamond Sutra (in Zen).

  • Nichiren is not Buddhism its a cult founded by court nobles of early Japan.

My concern is that people will get the idea that one sect is the only way and the rest of humanity is doomed. Its too immoral. Theravada and Zen do not make that same claim and illustrate many paths to Enlightenment.

  • @marcsman229

I truly hope your comment gets removed.

    it digusts me beyond reason.

  • @marcsman229 What do you mean when you use the term "Pollack"? I fail to see what you are upset about, your anger seems to lead you to make gross assumptions that don't have a basis. So in essence you must be using inflammatory remarks as a sort of game. You just sit at the computer screaming "Play with me!",reminiscent of how a stubborn child cries out.

  • @adamamida

I mean I fucking hate pollacks like you...

can't you fucking read!? yes, it's a game for people like us to antagonize people like you, that's what we did in world war 2 when we invaded your gypsy country.

  • @marcsman229 I am not upset in the least about what you write, sure it is annoying to think of how such an asinine person could exist. Its rather easy to shrug off. I was asking what the term "Pollack" meant. Why do you keep bringing up WWII? What does that have anything to do with what you are upset about? How could you say anything at all about my country when you don't even know where I am from?

  • @marcsman229 I am a White Caucasian American, I grew up in America, as did my Parents, my grandparents and my great grandparents. My whole family linage is White Caucasians. Your remake about "the old country" and "half -breeds" is completely absurd. Nothing you have written actually pertains to who I am, so I can't be insulted, its not me at all that you are insulting.

  • @adamamida

    "white caucasians"

idiotic slavs, go back to eastern europe or whatever backwater place you came from.

  • You should go back to Afghanistan. You have too much freedom, you can't make proper use out of it. You Pollack seeking Pollack trash.

  • @adamamida

    ha!!!

what happened to the passive pollack buddhist?

    afghanistan!? what an idiot...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Learn your fucking GEOGRAPHY this time!!! IDIOT!!!

hahahahaha, pollack gypsy sluts like you are so ignorant.

  • @marcsman229 I just thought I would say something random. You know, communicate on your level.

  • This practice predates Nichiren so i think

  • wait a minute

where is free tibet? that's only way to achieve nirvana.

  • I love your video! Thanks for taking time out of your life to share this with others!

Did you hear a voice inside your head when you were inside the library?

You have missed the big part when it comes to Buddhism!

  • @steven47234 Read the Mahaparinibbana Sutta if you are truly interested in understand the Buddha's final days.

  • Is that a dream you saw Steven? Or are you suffering from a mental illness?Think about what your going to write before you spit it out!

  • Wow.

  • Ow it's beautiful :)

  • Thankyou Venerable Bhikhuni for your wise and valuable explanations

    Namo Amitabha

  • Thank-you for this great video. Also, I love your book Buddhism for Beginners! :)

  • This is an interesting video. I don't practice buddhism but I can see how the ideals can be used to improve someone's quality of life. Without actually listening and paying attention it would have been easy to criticize this action and I am glad that I did not do that! Thank you for teaching me something new today

  • Venerable one,

Above all~ Thank you very much _()_

"Save all the beings from suffering"

  • Venerable One,

You have helped me a great deal through your teachings. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all you have done. Thank you! =)

  • Thank you very much, what a kind person and what a nice and well done video!

  • thank you for making it so simple

  • ALL HUMANS ARE THE SAME BEING CREATED BY THE SAME CREATOR.

CHRISTIANS, HINDUS, BUDDHISTS, MUSLIMS AND ALL THE RELIGIONS ARE ON THE GOOD SIDE. GOOD.

The part of me that is ashame of being human is that part of attacking other religions and forcing them to kneel under mine.

PLEASE TRY TO UNDERSTAND THE DEPTH OF YOUR RELIGION EVERY DAY.

AND LET'S MAKE THIS LIFE BEAUTIFUL.

    WE ARE GIVEN A GIFT.

    OUR LIFE.

  • @ribassribass well said

  • @ribassribass We'll there's no creator in Buddhism firstly, and the God of the new testament would send everyone from every other belief system to hell. So there is absolutely no way of reconciling all religions into one. I do think you make a good point of being tolerant of other peoples ways of life though. I think it's one of the most important points that anyone could make.

  • @ribassribass 90%of the attacks r from the muslim faith "teach islam by the way of the sword" dont be ashamed because of a few muslim apples

  • @Shggy2dopalas Today, most of the attacks are from muslim scums.

But Christians have killed a lot of people too.

  • @ribassribass So you're saying I have to be religious to be good? I can assure you that I'm more moral than any christian I've ever met. Could you claim the same?

There is no creator, there is only a claim that there is a creator. no proof no truth and claims piled upon claims. How can you be good if you lie so much? Religion is like the most backwards hate filled hypocrisy I've ever laughed at.

  • @ribassribass Except Buddhists don't have a creator.

  • @ribassribass As a buddhist I would tell you that what you call god, we call ultimate reality. The entire universe is thus what you call god. So there is no point in talking about what ultimately is yourself. This is the inner essence of all religions, even Jesus said: ye are all gods. And more importantly: the kingdom of heaven is within you. So stop looking outside, for heaven sakes, these stupid ideas like christian, muslim... these are methods, not facts.

  • How good is to see that this ven. Anila is still alive and teaching Dharma. I met her many years ago in Dharmasala sitting among the ordined sangha at HH teachings
