  • Let's see... beautiful, sexy, great hair, great smile....and, oh yeah....who did you say your daddy was? We'll get back to you.

  • To answer several of your questions, as a general rule, make-up, hair and costume test footage didn't have sound, which made them cheaper to do, since you wasn't paying a sound guy to be holding a boom mike and a sound mixer, not to mention having to sync them in post production.

The object of these clips were to see how the wardrobe and hair/make-up did with the studio lighting and the camera angles. What may look great in person may not look so good on celluloid!

  • this stuff always gives me the hibigibies

  • Had Thomas thought about it, she could of used the last hairdo for the last season of "That Girl".

  • SHE IS SO PRETTY!

  • she reminds me of Natalie Portman. She's beautiful!

  • With all of those crazy hair styles how could they fit it all on the kite?

  • i KNOW for a fact in ALL 5 years, part of it was add-on hair according to tv guide.

  • I'm trying to remember this as best I can... I recall that neither Marlo nor Elizabeth Montgomery, who had big ABC hits on Thursday nights, neither ever got an Emmy as best actress in a comedy series. And the way I heard it, either Marlo told Elizabeth, or the other way around, "If we were the only two nominees, they'd (the Emmy board) would announce there's no winner this year."

  • Man, what a sweetie - I think she must have been my first Hollywood crush!

  • You can see how sweet Marlo was in these tests, which are really boring to do but there she is smiling and having a good time anyway. Her sweetness really comes through in these tests.

Most of these are wiglets and hairpieces which were common at the time.

  • Wow, some of that hair is bigger than Fran Fine's on the Nanny! Anyway, they got it right with the 'flip' and bangs she wore for several years. Loved that!

  • She was so pretty! Look at that shiny hair....

  • I loved the show when I was growing up. She was a hottie.

  • courtney cox was a less than equal in looks copy of marlo thomas??

  • True, she did always have either her boyfriend or Dad around, but I think when people say that she wasn't truly a "single girl", people have to remember that this was WAY before Carrie Bradshaw, Murphy Brown and even Mary Tyler Moore. I mean, this show was the first to truly feature in its storyline a young woman leaving the security of her parents home and her small town life for the sake of her own independence and career. At the time, that was unheard of.

  • Anybody who researches That Show soon realizes that she had more than nepotism going for her. She was the backbone of that show and made it work with her ideals, chutzpah and sheer energy.

  • Wow!

It's been so long since I've seen this show I'd forgotten how incredibly cute she was.

  • Were any of those her own hair, or were they all wigs and pieces?

Her make-up looked the same in all of the takes.

  • She was beautiful. So sad she was so liberal. LOL

  • SHE ALOOKS LIKE THIS NICE LADY i KNOW AT THE COFFEE SHOP Sara King.

    Also my neighbor... :D

  • Have to love her!

  • I could never imagine Marlos Thomas w/o "THAT HAIR!" It was truly a signature part of the show was her hair do and those great clothes. Her dresses always had matching coats and and hats and shoes and jewerly... I mean for a single girl, on her own, she did pretty darn good. Well there was always DON and DADDY on each side of her, also.

  • They always talk about how she was like the first "single girl," and all that? Well in a way she really wasn't. She ALWAYS had "THAT MAN!" Don Hollinger, (Ted Bessell) as her boyfriend from episode one where they meet, and there was always her, "DADDY," to help her out also. It was always a given that Ann and Donald were going steady and to be engaged, and eventually get married! She was never truly single, if you think about it.

  • If my Father produced a lot of TV shows I'd get my own show also. Without Daddy she would have never gone anywhere. Who can blame her I'd do the same thing!

  • Every little girl in the mid to late 60's wanted to be "That Girl!" She was the essense of modern-day womanhood.

  • Big nose, small nose or no nose, Marlo Thomas is beautiful

  • Marlo's show debuted just as I was entering puberty. What a turn for me then (and now). Thanks for posting!

  • Wow I thought it was Danica Patrick

  • That 60s bobbed nose job was all the rage. Looks chopped off now.

  • @bc9021010001 She had her father's nose (Danny Thomas)

  • Is she related to Danny Thomas?

  • @coralarch Yes, she is his daughter.

  • Thanks Dorisday Isn;t her hair gorgeous? I've never seen her in colour before.

  • No general comment on Marlo vs. Barbara or Elizabeth. But this test puts across the FIERCE pressure on actresses in these circumstances. How anyone survives, I don't know...and I say this as a community actor who, as a guy, rarely has to worry about this crap.

  • Elizabeth Montgomery and Barbara Eden

were both beautiful, but Marlo Thomas

    had something better: ZING!

  • there used to be a promo for this show where marlo jumped into a folding bed that closed up on her and as she struggled to get out it jerked back and forth - as a child I had a recurring nightmare that this walking bed was coming to eat me - it would chase me through the house but it moves slow so in horror i would just watch it approach but kept far enough away to avoid being eaten...

  • I prefer her hair like this.

  • Wow, she looks like my mom!

  • I can watch her without audio all day. *sigh*

  • I know!!! This was the first girl I had a crush on! But in real life she is satanic! Mean to everyone! Mean to interviewers, mean to household staff, mean to Phil!!!

  • And you know this...how? Cite your sources please, you can't just slander someone like that without facts.

  • state the facts. what are your sources?

  • Very beautiful, and a bit offbeat for the time. She and Mary Tyler Moore were so attractive, but not in the bottle-blonde way, like so many other girls of the time. Later, Cher did it too, in her unique way.

  • Beauty, personality, ambition, and energy. Marlo had and has it all!! Naturally beautiful both inside and out. Rare indeed.

  • ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE lady!!! In the days when they didn't have to look like call girls to make it in The Industry . . .

  • she was sooo pretty.. very underated

  • I definitely prefer her flip hairstyle! She looked so pretty with it.

  • she defied the the blond all american look at the time and she was one of the beuatiful girls on tv at that time.

  • @butch1026 , only AFTER she got her nose job and removed her dad's honker from her face. :)

  • @rachelazw I completely disagree. The nose job diminished her. She was more beautiful with her original nose. You can have all your barbie dolls with tinkerbell pug-noses. This woman had a stunning natural beauty that hollywood and Barbie ideals could NEVER manufacture. Her beauty was true to her middle-eastern and Italian heritage. IMO those two cultures have produced some of the most gorgeous women in history.

  • She is very beautiful.

  • Though the Bubble or Flip became her trademark for the show. The other hairstyles looked quite nicely on her. Those were the hairstyles during that time. Now the women don't comb or style their hair to come to the office like before. Today it's a mess.

  • wow....she was so pretty.......

  • Very interesting footage. I always saw a sweet spirit behind those beautiful eyes. Thank you for posting.

  • NATURAL beauty. The RIGHT kind of beauty. Go Marlo.

  • She was gorgeous!

  • Born to be in front of a camera.

  • Rosemary DeCAmp is my great, great aunt!!!!!! I LOVE MY AUNT !!! I want to be an actor aswell!!!

  • She was gorgeous ...peroid

  • She looks much better with the "flip". It makes her stand out. Otherwise, she looks like every other late '60s long haired woman.

  • Marlo looks OK. if only that wig hadn't fallen on her!

  • she looks like charlies angles kate jackson

  • Y no sound?

  • It was like that on the DVD, sorry!

  • @WildwoodFlowerGirl

Thank you so much for posting this!

    You are so cool!

  • @WildwoodFlowerGirl people are always complaining arent they/? even tho you went to the trouble of posting it.

    Why no sound?

Because its a MAKEUP TEST! they werent interested in the sound. Why pay a sound man for a makeup test?

Does it make sense for Apsu now? lol

I love things like this...there are some great ones of Joan Crawford for Straightjacket. x

  • @Apsu72 Why would a make up test have sound?

  • @kurtywurty85 I don't know maybe because I see her MOVING HER LIPS and I kind of like to HEAR WHAT SHE'S SAYING PERHAPS...That's just my take on it. How about you?

  • perfection

  • Phil Donahue? What was she thinking?

  • I KNOW. God, she is just way too good-looking for him.

  • I know!!!!! Not only is she too good looking for him, but she is too good period. Maybe she wanted a real wus to boss around! lol!

  • @coolestdude80 Actually he was kinda handsome in the 70's

  • man, it's hard to believe that this beautiful girl came from the loins of Danny Thomas. Anybody remember the mug on that guy? dont get me wrong he was a good guy .

  • She looked like Danny before her nose job. If Danny had had one, he'd have looked like Tyrone Power.
