I remember hearing this song way back in 1995 I was 7yrs old and what brought me back here was when I heard this song in a grocery store where I work at and it brought shivers down my spine because it felt like I was a kid again hearing this song. lol
this song was top 40 stateside for at least a week, number 4 on the billboard 100. 11 on the top 100 in 1995. the US actually had better musical taste than the rest of the world that year. 1995 was a good year.
i just read her biography on Wikipedia. and it said she sang with Speech and Arrested Development. is she the one with the gap in her teeth and always wore the African style headbands like Erykah Badu?
Older than I like to admit... but used to leave my t.v. on MTV or VH1 (when they played videos - another dated remark!) waiting for this to come on... and scream and crank it when it finally did!
I have been digging, and digging, and digging, trying to find this song/album/singer for the past 2 years--when I remembered that I used to have this song as a youngster, and could not remember anything about it....THANK YOU!!!!
im not sure about everybody else but im glad this song isnt mainstream...it makes it even better....now i said that watch itll be in a commercial or something
hate that....sorry had to get that off my chest..deuces
A song that needed a little more recognition? This thing is a staple on "light rock" stations. Great song that's probably the edgiest thing you'll ever hear on such stations.
This song still stands on it's own...big hooks, lyrics and a great voice to deliver it. What a melody, can't believe this artist didn't make it to a higher level, too bad....hmm, go figure.
This song still stands on it's own...big hooks, lyrics and a great voice to deliver it. What a melody, can't believe this artist didn't make to a higher level, too bad....hmm, go figure.
I really enjoy her artistry. The quality of her voice is so versatile, which allows her to fit easily into all styles. Sadly, she goes unnoticed by the general pulbic. She was exceptional during her segment of Soul Train Award's Anita Baker tribute. I actually preferred her version of the song over Anita's original.
Awesome song. The 90s had so many great one hitwonders. I miss the 90s. That Donovan douchbag that made the comment about the 90s sucking was probably to young or to busy playing wolfenstien in his moms basement. I hate negative feedback on a song that was already a success.
Every body Justin Biebers age you are 5 years late. You have to be born before 1990. I swear EVERY song in the 90s brings back the best memories and i'm only 23!!!
DoubleVisionandco. Absolutely right. a beautiful blend of styles. We play this. People think it's Tracy chapman.I thank TC Helicon for the harmonys. We have female who sings the main melody. We use my falsetto and voicelive2. Can't help but to want to play this song.
I remember when this came out in the 90`s. Dionne was in Arrested Development who had a hit with "Mr. Windel" However, she had wrote some songs and she felt they were hits but they were ignored. So she left Arrested Development and went out on her own. Not long after that this gem came out. This tune shot to number 1, proving her point. What makes this song so great and unique is, it has a modern feel and groove to it, but it`s based on old school blues slide guitar and bass lines.
OMG, it took me 2 and a half days to find this song... I saw the video for it a week ago on MTV HITS and fell in love w/ it... on reason why I wish I was born in the early 80's so I could have remember this song :(
This song was reminds me of a trip to Hawaii I took. I remember, every morning, having the doors to my balcony open, enjoying a cup of coffee, while this video played on VH-1. This song was so popular that year, the video played every day like clockwork.
I love this song! I loved Dionne Farris! A real talented recording artist who never got the recognition that she deserved! I am from the 70's and 80's era but the 90's was a real good era of songs that I loved so very much.
@burtamax1 I KNOW! i couldnt even find it on amazon either, it sucks too cuz if i had this song i would have it on repeat.. definitely takes me back to good times! i cant find the original video either :(
I still say that arguably, the 90's had some of the best music. Dionne Farris is a perfect example of the artists of that decade and the creative genius they had/have!
Wow! I loved this song! This woman is and was incredible! Her voice is the bomb! I know that she would not sell herself out for anyone who would not recognize her creative talents and her vision to do what she wanted to do! 1995 had some good music back then! I miss her and all of the vocalists from that time.
@chica0616 There were only 10 songs more popular than this in 1995: 1. Gangsta's Paradise, Coolio 2. Waterfalls, TLC 3. Creep, TLC 4. Kiss from a Rose, Seal 5. On Bended Knee, Boyz II Men 6. Another Night, Real McCoy 7. Fantasy, Mariah Carey 8. Take a Bow, Madonna 9. Don't Take It Personal (Just One of Dem Days), Monica 10. This Is How We Do It, Montell Jordan 11. I Know, Dionne Farris I think that would qualify as recognition, no?
@mikescorpio1108 Good list! I love This Is How We Do It, but if they would have played it one more time, I would have thrown a brick through the TV screen, or radio! LOL!
WHERE IS THE OFFICIAL(ORIGINAL) VIDEO?? Is there a problem between Sony & Dionne over the rights to it? It was such a really cool video- shot during the studio recording with Dionne & her band performing the song with 360 degree camera shots all around. Really miss it!
I LOVE THIS SONG SOOOOOOO MUCH!!! I wish music was this heart felt today. Just think people we may never get to experience music like this for the rest of our journey in this life. Sad!
Yup, a great time period in music. Now it's polluted by 'artists' manufactured by the Disney Channel and other garbage like American Idol. It's disgusting that people can do what is essentially glorified karaoke and be rewarded for it with a record deal while real musicians struggle to get anything these days.
this is my 45th favorite song ever and i got like 1,000,000,000 favorite songs nor am i a bitter love struck gal! just a groovy song you would have to be morgue bound if you did not at least tap to this track!

i love this song, someone needs to put more of her music on here, shes not dead guys just forgotten, shes a very soulful singer, like her song, Don't Ever Touch Me Again," is about spousal abuse, or abuse period, take alisten at her music, guys, its very moving, and emtional.
love this song, and all of dionne ferriss' music, they need tobring her back, so somebody post more of her music, all of it tells a story, and all is very helpful, and encouraging.
You're probably correct, Duaan84. Ironic as it is. Where would we be if not for Chuck Berry (the true King of Rock n' Roll), Bo Diddly, all the old great blues guys (oo many to even mention), and of course, Jimi Hendrix.
such an awesome jam!! i miss these days

i love this song, someone needs to put more of her music on here, shes not dead guys just forgotten, shes a very soulful singer, like her song, Don't Ever Touch Me Again," is about spousal abuse, or abuse period, take alisten at her music, guys, its very moving, and emtional.

love this song, and all of dionne ferriss' music, they need tobring her back, so somebody post more of her music, all of it tells a story, and all is very helpful, and encouraging.

You're probably correct, Duaan84. Ironic as it is. Where would we be if not for Chuck Berry (the true King of Rock n' Roll), Bo Diddly, all the old great blues guys (oo many to even mention), and of course, Jimi Hendrix.
