  • My liberty used to do that in 4 lo - doesn't do it anymore (didn't do anything to it it just went away) - but I still wonder what that noise was. I have a 2003 with the NV 241 command-trac. There are absolutely no modifications to the drivetrain. I also change the fluid religiously and the 4wd, for most of its life, was used mayve 14 times a year. It's got 190,000 orig. miles.

  • whatn would cause a ringing noise in the transfer case? on a 97 jeep grand cherokee 4x4

  • Could that noise be caused by a stretched chain wrapping against the inside of the transfer case?

  • Sounds like the u joints are bad.

  • I have the same problem too. I picked 5th gear, neutral in transfer case, turned on engine, get under the car and listen. It seems that driveshaft (between gearbox and transfer case) makes this noise. U-joints looks ok but i will change them anyway +balancing and I will be 95% sure is it transfer case or not.

    hope you solved this problem

  • How did to attached the camera?

  • @Frankie1970 Maybee with a Tripod...

  • i have that problem in my ml430 when the car is in D and push the gaz that happend

  • i have that problem in my ml430 do u know what is that noise?

  • Hi did you ever fix the noise of the jeep?

Ever find out what was happening? I have the same noise , im trying to figure out what it is. Thank you.

  • @cmilo10 did you find out what it was?

  • i just replaced the whole driveshaft with an aftermarket one.. the noise was constantly there and was worse when i was backing up in 4wd

i remember it starting 8k miles after i lifted the jeep... shitty stock jk driveshafts imo

  • @sasdd333 Did you replace the universal joints when you installed the new driveshaft? It makes since that those would wear out since the truck is lifted, but I want to make sure because my truck is lifted and making the same noise.

  • @l33tkawasaki Could be a few things depending on a lift or not. If its lifted 4" or more the pinion angles change and wear the hell out of the needle bearings on the output shaft of the transfer case, and cause the splines in the slip yokes to get out of round. Could be that your not hearing the sound with the rear driveline out because the rear output shaft dosent have anything out of round trying to spin. If theres slop where the rear driveline is flanged to the transfer case, its bearings.

  • @l33tkawasaki Transfer case output shaft bearings, get the Ujoints replaced and get the driveline balanced along with the transfer bearings and you'll be good to go..

  • @soopkichnmbc Yeah, I figured it out. Turned out one of my universal joints went out so I replaced the pair and now the noise is no longer there. There is a bit of a metallic rattling noise coming from the T-case area, which may be a bad bearing or just something is loose.

  • @sasdd333 just wondering, how wide are your rims?

  • How did u fix it?? Did happen after using the four wheel drive??

  • Where we goin'?

  • I have the same noise but lower. You know where is the problem?

    thanks

  • @txusus

it turns out it was my rear drive shaft that was causing the noise... i took it out and drove around the block in 4wd again and the sound was gone

  • @sasdd333 did you poot another rear drive shaft on and did it stop makeing the nois?

  • @sasdd333 Im haveing the same problem but it aint the rear drive shaft because if you poot it in 4weal drive with the rear drive shaft on it wont make the noise but in 2h it will and it seams to do worse when pushing the break. I think its the syncronizer gears but im not shure did you ever find out what it was?
