I grew up with this stuff... I owned both systems and played just about everything. The genesis was/is way better than the Super NES. It had a 2 year head start in the market. The Super NES had a slow release of games and most were for little kids. Oh yah, the cost of a Super NES game was $59.99-$79.99. So you could either choose between 300-400 games when the NES came out for half the cost or you had your choice of 10 games, which continued to be released slowly.
genesis games sucked compare to the snes. i grew up owning both consoles and played both of them equally, just the snes world felt more enjoyable with the many variety of games it had to offer. the many colors and music on that system owned the genesis.
@rahnyc4 I also grew up with both systems. I owned a Genesis while my older brother had an SNES. The SNES just had waaaaay better sound, more colorful and detailed graphics and frankly just felt more comfortable to play. I mean take controllers for instance, you can still clearly since the impact left by the SNES in the 4-button diamond layout and shoulder buttons that have basically become an industry standard. The Genesis had great games but overall it just doesnt compare to the SNES
vao se foder claro que mega drive, e melhor , que o snes em jogos de açao o snes tem graficos simplista nada eleborado . na minha opniao sega e melhor que a nintendo.
fyi. you know the snes had better games, because when you look at the top 10 games of all time list from any gaming sites, its always snes games over genesis games..lol
i grew up with both consoles. sega genesis was good, but i kept finding myself going back to the snes. the snes has way more games and they were way better at that. i did love sonic music though, the games were too similar for my taste.
Here is the reason why the SEGA was better than SNES. Video games by Nintendo usually only had one game published on the SNES system when SEGA had 3 to 4 games in a series published on the Genesis. On the SNES we only had one Zelda game, one Metroid, one Star Fox, one Castlevainia, etc. When on the Genesis we had Sonic 1 - 3 and Knuckles, Streets of Rage 1-3, Shinobi 1-3, Golden Axe 1-3, etc. While the games on the SNES were pretty good, the Genesis just had more in each series.
sega megadrive all the way always loved sega and always will lets face it streets of rage revenge of shinobi golden axe rocket knight gunstar heroes various disney games toejam and earl plus shooters were all better on the megadrive.
Why have one system when you can have them all? (In the early to mid 90s, we had an NES, SNES, and Genesis) The amount of games we had numbered a little over 100. And then they were all stolen by a repo company. We had left our things in the van upon returning from a trip.
I got most of it back (re-releases on the Playstation Network, emulators, et al) but to this day I still remain pissed about what that repo company did.
i would compare: zelda lttp vs landstalker secret of mana vs beyond oasis super metroid vs blaster master 2 ? (only game i cud think of) maximum carnage vs streets of rage (any suggestions?) starfox vs afterburner 2 final fantasy 4 vs phantasy star 4 mario vs sonic contra alien wars vs contra hard corps megaman x vs turrican street fighter 2 the new challengers/turbo vs mortal kombat series fire emblem vs langriser hikari i respect the sega snes was released 1990 sega was released 1988
You know, with all this arguing over the Genesis and SNES, I think we are all ultimately missing the point. Mainly... what is this Sega "MAGEDRIVE" that we are proudly introduced to in the opening moment of this video? In its efforts to dethrone Nintendo, did Sega delve into dark and forbidden magicks?
I think both consoles had there selling points. The snes had mode 7 and 32,000 colours on the screen an an awesome on board soud chip. The megadrive had a faster cpu (hence Sonic the hedgehog) and more memory. It's weird, some conversions were better on the snes (earthworm jim) and some on the megadrive (Aladdin). My heart is still with the snes though. You can't beat Mario Kart!!
You show Phantasy Star III over II or IV? The game almost universally hated by fans of the series? Then put Alex Kid a early Genesis title against Donkey Kong a late SNES title? And played the Pal versions of the genesis games, the versions that ran slower because of the region? Then Star Fox vs Altered beast? Not even remotely in the same era. Wow this isn't bias at all! Show Virtua Racing and Star Fox, Phantasy Star IV vs Final Fantasy, Landstalker vs Zelda.
@HYPERJOHNBASS Thanks, I'm not trying to say one is better than the other or anything just at LEAST stick with games that are of the same era. I mean Alex Kid was back in 89 vs Donkey Kong in 94, programming and technology was leaps and bounds different by then, it's not remotely fair.
@Snotnarok what are you talking about...he isnt putting those games against each other..he is just showing some of his best games from each console..in no particular order, just changing between snes/sega/snes/sega etc...not Star Fox vs Altered beast and alex kid vs donkey kong..
@gl3110 Actually yes he is, the video is titled Sega Genesis -VS- Super Nintendo, and he's putting various games on the screen to contend for which is better. What's there to miss here? The video asinine it itself since both consoles have great games and there is no real winner here. But he's being very bias about this.
@gl3110 And he's doing that by showing games of both systems to show the systems capabilities. How ELSE would you show a console vs console? You compare their games but if you're comparing a game from 1989 to 1994 it's not exactly fair because new techniques are learned to maximize the use of a devices power. And that's what he's doing, comparing old games to new games on the opposing consoles and it doesn't work.
@Snotnarok Phantasy Star III is awesome. IV is the most overrated game in the bunch, and it makes me sick how so many people say it's the best in the series.
@MisterKidEgo It's subjective, I hated 3, just couldn't get into it. I'm sure it's fine but it's just not a game I could get into, however IV is my favorite of the bunch. You can't get mad at what other people like that's just gonna lead to you going crazy one day when someone votes one game over your favorite.
@SOUTHWESTENZ mmmmm mario games, a link to the past, super metroid, star fox, fzero, sailor moon games, parodius, final fantasy and then? sega has street of rage 1,2 and 3, altered beast, shadow dancer, shinobi 2 and 3, comix zone, sonic games, ristar, vectorman 1 and 2, colums 1 and 3, phantasy star, soleil, moonwalker, mega turrican, contra the hardcops, castlevania, alex kid, and the list goes on...
@HYPERJOHNBASS We also got Chrono trigger, better caslevania, donkey kong country, final fantasy,
f-zero, kirby, plok, r-type, sim city, super bombliss, wofenstien, doom, bomerman, street fighter alpha we also had super turrican, star wars, megaman, killer instinct and prince of pirsia and more than i can even remember, and moonwalker... really
@SOUTHWESTENZ WE ALSO GOT... so you put the snes shirt on? well our castlevania and contra better, mega turrican is better than super turrican, we also got megabomberman which is better game than any bomberman on snes, sim city is horrible, megaman 7 is the worst game on the series, prince of persia 2 is horrible and yes columns is good, it´s way better than tetris 2 on snes
@SOUTHWESTENZ yeah but genesis has better music, the music for sonic 3 was made by michael jackson and sor osts are the best... compare this to any snes ost and you will find that sound quality doesn´t mean music quality
@HYPERJOHNBASS MJ didn't do Sonic's music. He WAS going to, but he either got fired because of his scandals back then, or he quit the project midway through production.
@HYPERJOHNBASS i just started playing dracula x for the first time recently, its amazing.
honestly having played both systems alot, the game that really stood out for me on the genesis is sonic 3 & k, the levels are so vast and the soundtrack is amazing. other i like alot are the other sonics and rystar. most others i like are also on snes
I think you could have picked better games to represent the Mega Drive, like Aladin instead of Alex Kid, and Comix Zone instead of Altered beast, also games like Virtua Racing to make a comparisson with Mario Kart and StarWing since they all use a speical chip that increases 3D capabilities and many other games like Gunstar Heroes, MUSHA, Sonic 3 & Knuckles could be there too ;)
I prefer the look of the Genesis console and controller, but I think the SNES had more games if I remember. Both are awesome systems that perfected 2d gaming. Can't go wrong with either imo. The 16-bit era was a simpler and more innocent time in gaming, which still offered loads of fun, and for many still does. Its cool to see the consoles being made again (albeit somewhat less than perfect 3rd party clones), though it would be nice to be able to buy some new cartridges for them again.
I'd rather not argue, I'm just going to say the SNES and Sega Genesis are two of the greatest gaming consoles ever made and the generation they were in was one of the greatest generations gaming had I love thinking of how something so simple could be so fun (still are) back before Sony and Microsoft came out with the Playstation and XBOX with their flashy graphics, I also love thinking about how the only two companies well known in gaming back then were Sega and Nintendo *2bcont.*
*Continued* I also love thinking about how the only two companies well known in gaming back then were Sega and Nintendo, I also love that you could be a Sonic fan and not be ashamed about it since the fandom wasn't as stupid as it is today, really the SNES Sega Genesis era is like I said one of the greatest generations ever in gaming and both the SNES and Sega Genesis are two of if the greatest and if not the simply the greatest two gaming consoles of all time.
Wow, some of these games are played in the PAL format. That sucks! Especially Sonic. they should NOT have slowed the framerate on that one. (I realize this is a MEGADRIVE comparison)
i thought the snes was smarter,scrapping cd add ons,taking time on their next system,and waiting until 1991 to release their system.plus,enix made some of the best rpgs ever for the system,or ever,for that matter.the sega genesis started earlier,and had blast processing,with 2 add ons,one being to add cds,and one to give 32 bit games into the genesis family,however the genesis was kinda reckless at the time,and didn't take time.but both had great games,some overrated,some underrated.
i thought the snes was smarter,scrapping cd add ons,taking time on their next system,and waiting until 1991 to release their system.plus,enix made some of the best rpgs ever for the system,or ever,for that matter.
Sega's biggest blunder was not having the Genesis display 128 or 256 colors instead of 64. NEC's PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 could do 512 at once, at it was released in Japan in 1987. With 128 or 256 colors, the SNES would not have had such a visual advantage
snes was so childly, compare alex kidd and dk is a bit cruel...and unfair. altered beast is one of the first game and one of the worst. To show the worst gensis game and the best snes...cool!
@Offspringfan64 I see what you're trying to do there, but you do realise if he was to compare SUPER Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat II, it'd be SEVERELY against the Mega Drive's favour.
Oh, there's no doubt. The SNES had more colors on screen, higher rez, WAY superior sound, that doesn't change anything. I still wanna see the same games compared. BTW, not all games were superior on SNES, Samurai Warrior was superior on Genesis, there were a couple more I can't remember right now.
@ResurrectedTemplar what he means is that the synthesized instrumentation of the SNES audio tracks were better quality, regardless of how muffled it is. Personally I don't really care that the Genesis was less muffled because the MIDI sound effects on Genesis can get annoying and "ear-cutting" at times.
Skies of Arcadia is also well regarded, and Powerstone was a fun game. I never cared much about sports games, but the 2K series gave EA some competition as well.
@ImprovedMano Pit fighter? You must hate the Genesis. Truth is the Genesis is always going to have a hard time trying to equal the audio/visual aspect of Super nintendo games. It's damn hard for 64 colors out of 512 to look like 256 out of 32000, or an fm chip to duplicate Sony's spc700 sample based chip. Direct ports are almost always gonna look better on snes. But some separately developed games like Aladdin and Adventures of Batman and Robin look or play better on the Genesis. Check them out
Yeah i know, and whatever i said is that i was making fun of the SNES version coz it's really bad, The Genesis and the Arcade versions are much better,
@renge2213 Games did tend to look better on the SNES, but many played better on the genesis. I remember Mortal Kombat and Shadowrun being a lot better on the genesis. I like playin both though, I'd call it a tie.
I noticed that most examples of multiplatform games of the 16 bit era were better on SNES graphically and soundwise, such as Super Street Fighter II, Zombies ate My Neighbors, Earthworm Jim 2, Mortal Kombat I-III (except that there was no blood), Bubsy, Sunset Riders, Clayfighter, etc. I only admit that the Beavis and Butthead game sucked on SNES and ruled on Genesis. Also, Earthworm Jim 1 would be debatable whether better on SNES or Genesis.
If you guys don't believe that the SNES had better technological capabilities look up these two pirated games: Super donkey Kong 99 which was a Genesis version of DKC and notice how it just sucks everyway around, animation, sound, speed is terrible. Then look at "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" which was a SNES version of a sonic game, and notice how it handles the game very smoothly even during the fast running parts it has no problem. An example proving that the Genesis was LESS powerful than SNES.
Keyword here is "pirate" and it's clear you don't know all the facts.
Fact 1: DKC for Genesis was a pirated port of the SNES version. Again, the keyword here is "pirated", as in, a real game studio did not handle the conversion, unless you consider impoverished Chinese programmers haphazardly converting games in a warehouse to be on the level of, say, RARE.
Fact 2: Sonic the Hedehog 4 for SNES is not a Sonic game at all. It's just Speedy Gonzalez with some graphic changes.
@DarkRetroFan64 The SNES had better technological capabilities in most areas. But not all. The Genesis DID have a faster processor. 7.5 MHZ vs SNES's 3.6 MHZ snes was clearly outclassed in this area. There is no sonic 4, it wasn't a real sonic game and is no way any representation of SNES's ability to handle as fast of games as genesis. That simply just isn't true.
@dunnono00 Altered Beast, Sonic games, Super Thunder Blade, Gain Ground, just a few examples. They're not all necessarily bad, but some are just lackluster and short, even for it's time. I've always thought SNES games had more effort put into them.
...there are no short, lackluster SNES games? Judging from your past comments, I'm going to assume you equate effort to graphical prowess and/or audio. What you have to realize is that the Genesis was arcade-centric, which has its own merits compared to a RPG heavy system like SNES. M.U.S.H.A. Gunstar Heroes, Ristar, etc are Genesis games that have nothing but effort on all sides. Plok, Mystic Quest, and Paladin's Quest were rather mediocre efforts on the SNES.
@dunnono00 yes there are some Genesis games that have effort put into them as there are SNES games with little put into them, but the point is, the SNES had a larger ratio of good games than crap games, whereas the Genesis was the other way around. That's just how I feel, I have more fun playing SNES.
And what precisely makes you think that is the correct ratio? Your "feelings"? It's already clear you have a bias for graphics and against arcade style games, so what if a person who leans towards gameplay and action filled games thought the Genesis had a higher ratio of good games? Are they somehow wrong?
@dunnono00 I never said that makes them wrong, I was stating how I felt that SNES had a better ratio of good games, and I know not everyone will agree because they have different opinions on games. I'm not calling anyone wrong for prefering the Genesis. Oh and also the thing about the 2 pirated games, yes I know pirated games aren't meant to be spectacular, I see better looking functioning pirates on SNES than Genesis.
There's a point you missed about my comment. Like I said, they managed to port the actual SNES Donkey Kong Country to Genesis. It was bootleg and done in a less than painstaking fashion, but it was done and with a surprising amount of visual fidelity.
However, there is NO ported version of a Sonic game on the SNES. At all. Instead they had to take a game that already existed on the SNES and did some graphic hacks. So, what does that tell you?
@dunnono00 just cause one doesn't exist doesn't mean it's not/wasn't possible. I've already seen from certain SNES games that it can handle the speed, mind what some may say.
SNES had better games, graphics, sound, and with the proper game chips in the cartridges it could handle fast processing (look at F-Zero). I admit the sound output wasn't as high on SNES judging from these vids, but on an actual TV you can barely even notice that, and besides, the arrangement qualities on the music tracks were still better. those cocky SEGA people tried too hard to beat nintendo, saying they were better & such, but even they knew deep down that Nintendoes what Genesis Don't.
I was a sega kid in the the early 90s so I have to go with what I know!!
I do think the SNES had better sound/music tho ... the genesis/mega drive sounds were often very 'buzzy' in comparison to more "orchestratic" nintendo sounds
But having played both (a few of my friends had SNES's) I can definitely say I prefer the Genesis/Mega Drive, in particular the gamepad; I always found the SNES gamepad quite awkward, whereas the Sega gamepad fit right into your hands
The only thing that the Genesis lacked was RPG games, they didn't have that much, but aside from that it had it all, Genesis wins, why? cause it does what nintendont, lol
Yes, but the lineup wasn't equal to the Squaresoft behemoth of Final Fantasy 4, 6, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana. Breath of Fire wasn't shabby either, and Lufia holds fond memories for many along with Earthbound. And that's not even mentioning the Japan only releases like Tales of Phantasia, Star Ocean, and the mighty Dragon Quest series. Light Crusader, Landstalker, Shadowrun, and Beyond Oasis give the Genesis some good mileage though, along with the games you mentioned.
@dunnono00 its a shame we never got to see tales of phantasia and stuff at that time (we have most of it now) another great SNES RPG you didnt mention was ogre battle. i guess your right the snes had more RPGS but the genesis wasnt a shmuck when it came to them.
I spent way too much time on that game back in the day. Too easy to get a bad or mediocre ending. I always considered it more Strategy than RPG, or that ever elusive Strategy/RPG hybrid. Same thing with the Shining Force series. Well, regardless, the Genesis really wasn't a schmuck, and the shame is most of the younger gaming fans seem to think the Genesis had nothing outside of SF and Phantasy Star.
I honestly think it what ever you owned as a kid. Most kids i knew.. like me only ever had one or the other. Since i had a super nintendo i am partial to it. My only main complaint about SEGA G was that it only had 3 buttons (later 6 with the new controler) and i played a ton of Mortal Kombat back then so having to press back and punch to do a high punch was bad. Over all looking at it unbiasly id say nintendo won because they didnt embaress themselves with stupid addons like sega cd and 32x.
@MrInfamous1984 sega had original games as well and they were more adult like better graphis horrible sound thow most of super nes games came from nes but the super nes had great sound sega for me

HYPERJOHNBASS 11 months ago
@HYPERJOHNBASS We also got Chrono trigger, better caslevania, donkey kong country, final fantasy,
f-zero, kirby, plok, r-type, sim city, super bombliss, wofenstien, doom, bomerman, street fighter alpha we also had super turrican, star wars, megaman, killer instinct and prince of pirsia and more than i can even remember, and moonwalker... really
whats colums is it good?
SOUTHWESTENZ 11 months ago
@SOUTHWESTENZ WE ALSO GOT... so you put the snes shirt on? well our castlevania and contra better, mega turrican is better than super turrican, we also got megabomberman which is better game than any bomberman on snes, sim city is horrible, megaman 7 is the worst game on the series, prince of persia 2 is horrible and yes columns is good, it´s way better than tetris 2 on snes
HYPERJOHNBASS 11 months ago
@HYPERJOHNBASS sim city snes is awesome
SOUTHWESTENZ 11 months ago
@SOUTHWESTENZ theme park is better and sega got it and it was the same as the snes version
HYPERJOHNBASS 11 months ago
@HYPERJOHNBASS the sound quality is also a big factor for me
SOUTHWESTENZ 11 months ago
@SOUTHWESTENZ yeah but genesis has better music, the music for sonic 3 was made by michael jackson and sor osts are the best... compare this to any snes ost and you will find that sound quality doesn´t mean music quality
HYPERJOHNBASS 11 months ago
@HYPERJOHNBASS MJ didn't do Sonic's music. He WAS going to, but he either got fired because of his scandals back then, or he quit the project midway through production.

@HYPERJOHNBASS mega man x 1-3 kick ass, super castlevania 4 and castlevaina Dracula x are much better than bloodlines
SOUTHWESTENZ 11 months ago
@SOUTHWESTENZ well castlevania 4 is the best castlevania but common, dracula x? and yes megaman x 1-3 kick ass but sega has willy wars
HYPERJOHNBASS 11 months ago
@HYPERJOHNBASS i just started playing dracula x for the first time recently, its amazing.
honestly having played both systems alot, the game that really stood out for me on the genesis is sonic 3 & k, the levels are so vast and the soundtrack is amazing. other i like alot are the other sonics and rystar. most others i like are also on snes
SOUTHWESTENZ 11 months ago
@HYPERJOHNBASS and i forgot harvest moon, i love that game

I think you could have picked better games to represent the Mega Drive, like Aladin instead of Alex Kid, and Comix Zone instead of Altered beast, also games like Virtua Racing to make a comparisson with Mario Kart and StarWing since they all use a speical chip that increases 3D capabilities and many other games like Gunstar Heroes, MUSHA, Sonic 3 & Knuckles could be there too ;)
TMNtamonte 11 months ago
I prefer the look of the Genesis console and controller, but I think the SNES had more games if I remember. Both are awesome systems that perfected 2d gaming. Can't go wrong with either imo. The 16-bit era was a simpler and more innocent time in gaming, which still offered loads of fun, and for many still does. Its cool to see the consoles being made again (albeit somewhat less than perfect 3rd party clones), though it would be nice to be able to buy some new cartridges for them again.

Xinn2000 1 year ago 2

Sega's biggest blunder was not having the Genesis display 128 or 256 colors instead of 64. NEC's PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 could do 512 at once, at it was released in Japan in 1987. With 128 or 256 colors, the SNES would not have had such a visual advantage

strykah92 1 year ago
Oh, there's no doubt. The SNES had more colors on screen, higher rez, WAY superior sound, that doesn't change anything. I still wanna see the same games compared. BTW, not all games were superior on SNES, Samurai Warrior was superior on Genesis, there were a couple more I can't remember right now.
Offspringfan64 1 year ago
@Offspringfan64 Way superior sound? So not true. SNES sound is muffled beyond belief.
ResurrectedTemplar 1 year ago
@ResurrectedTemplar snes sound worse than midi
cLaRkDamn 1 year ago
@ResurrectedTemplar what he means is that the synthesized instrumentation of the SNES audio tracks were better quality, regardless of how muffled it is. Personally I don't really care that the Genesis was less muffled because the MIDI sound effects on Genesis can get annoying and "ear-cutting" at times.

It's easy guys
If you want to convince someone that the SNES is better than the Genesis, just show him (BATMAN RETURNS) on both systems.
and If you want to convince someone that the Genesis is better than the SNES, just show him (PIT FIGHTER) on both systems :)
ImprovedMano 1 year ago
@ImprovedMano Pit fighter? You must hate the Genesis. Truth is the Genesis is always going to have a hard time trying to equal the audio/visual aspect of Super nintendo games. It's damn hard for 64 colors out of 512 to look like 256 out of 32000, or an fm chip to duplicate Sony's spc700 sample based chip. Direct ports are almost always gonna look better on snes. But some separately developed games like Aladdin and Adventures of Batman and Robin look or play better on the Genesis. Check them out
renge2213 1 year ago
@renge2213
No man i don't hate the Genesis, when i talked about pit fighter i was making fun of the SNES version because it's really BAD.
that's why i said: If you want to convince someone that the (Genesis) is better than the (SNES), just show him (PIT FIGHTER) on both systems.
because pit fighter on the Genesis is FAR better than the SNES version.

DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
I had all those Genesis games at one time or another...
Ostnizdasht206 1 year ago
If you guys don't believe that the SNES had better technological capabilities look up these two pirated games: Super donkey Kong 99 which was a Genesis version of DKC and notice how it just sucks everyway around, animation, sound, speed is terrible. Then look at "Sonic the Hedgehog 4" which was a SNES version of a sonic game, and notice how it handles the game very smoothly even during the fast running parts it has no problem. An example proving that the Genesis was LESS powerful than SNES.
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64
It's just Speedy Gonzalez with some graphic changes.
dunnono00 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64 The SNES had better technological capabilities in most areas. But not all. The Genesis DID have a faster processor. 7.5 MHZ vs SNES's 3.6 MHZ snes was clearly outclassed in this area. There is no sonic 4, it wasn't a real sonic game and is no way any representation of SNES's ability to handle as fast of games as genesis. That simply just isn't true.
moreoreos123 1 year ago
@moreoreos123 And also MegaDrive had higher resolution.
ResurrectedTemplar 1 year ago
I also thought Genesis games were mostly dull and short
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64
Well... what Genesis games did you actually play?
dunnono00 1 year ago
@dunnono00 Altered Beast, Sonic games, Super Thunder Blade, Gain Ground, just a few examples. They're not all necessarily bad, but some are just lackluster and short, even for it's time. I've always thought SNES games had more effort put into them.
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64
...there are no short, lackluster SNES games? Judging from your past comments, I'm going to assume you equate effort to graphical prowess and/or audio. What you have to realize is that the Genesis was arcade-centric, which has its own merits compared to a RPG heavy system like SNES. M.U.S.H.A. Gunstar Heroes, Ristar, etc are Genesis games that have nothing but effort on all sides. Plok, Mystic Quest, and Paladin's Quest were rather mediocre efforts on the SNES.
dunnono00 1 year ago
@dunnono00 yes there are some Genesis games that have effort put into them as there are SNES games with little put into them, but the point is, the SNES had a larger ratio of good games than crap games, whereas the Genesis was the other way around. That's just how I feel, I have more fun playing SNES.
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64
And what precisely makes you think that is the correct ratio? Your "feelings"? It's already clear you have a bias for graphics and against arcade style games, so what if a person who leans towards gameplay and action filled games thought the Genesis had a higher ratio of good games? Are they somehow wrong?
dunnono00 1 year ago
@dunnono00 I never said that makes them wrong, I was stating how I felt that SNES had a better ratio of good games, and I know not everyone will agree because they have different opinions on games. I'm not calling anyone wrong for prefering the Genesis. Oh and also the thing about the 2 pirated games, yes I know pirated games aren't meant to be spectacular, I see better looking functioning pirates on SNES than Genesis.
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64
So, what does that tell you?
dunnono00 1 year ago
@dunnono00 just cause one doesn't exist doesn't mean it's not/wasn't possible. I've already seen from certain SNES games that it can handle the speed, mind what some may say.
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64
...just as your example of bootleg games is not an accurate measure of power for these consoles?

SNES had better games, graphics, sound, and with the proper game chips in the cartridges it could handle fast processing (look at F-Zero). I admit the sound output wasn't as high on SNES judging from these vids, but on an actual TV you can barely even notice that, and besides, the arrangement qualities on the music tracks were still better. those cocky SEGA people tried too hard to beat nintendo, saying they were better & such, but even they knew deep down that Nintendoes what Genesis Don't.
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
@DarkRetroFan64 besides the louder sound output on SEGA doesn't help much since the audio tracks had SHIT quality. fuzzy and ear-cutting.
DarkRetroFan64 1 year ago
I was a sega kid in the the early 90s so I have to go with what I know!!
I do think the SNES had better sound/music tho ... the genesis/mega drive sounds were often very 'buzzy' in comparison to more "orchestratic" nintendo sounds
But having played both (a few of my friends had SNES's) I can definitely say I prefer the Genesis/Mega Drive, in particular the gamepad; I always found the SNES gamepad quite awkward, whereas the Sega gamepad fit right into your hands
CheapBeer09 1 year ago
@CheapBeer09 I agree the genesis sound quality was crap, I like the SNES far better but the Gen. had a fair # of decent games.

@thewatcher180 Really? with phantasy star 1-4 shining force 1 and 2 and some others im not mentioning.
thatkillerxyz 1 year ago
@thatkillerxyz
Light Crusader, Landstalker, Shadowrun, and Beyond Oasis give the Genesis some good mileage though, along with the games you mentioned.
dunnono00 1 year ago
@dunnono00 its a shame we never got to see tales of phantasia and stuff at that time (we have most of it now) another great SNES RPG you didnt mention was ogre battle. i guess your right the snes had more RPGS but the genesis wasnt a shmuck when it came to them.
thatkillerxyz 1 year ago
@thatkillerxyz
