  • They are like little ants =)

  • I wish the crowd would just.... SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!

  • Thats the most yellow I've ever seen in one place. O_o But the band is amazing!

  • I wish those people stopped clappen!

  • Ich möchte die Noten haben!!!!! *_______*

  • *vid starts* wait.. woah.. THAT'S their DRUMLINE?! that's like the size of entire frigging BAND!!!

  • @6000tearsEyEcry nope, they're just huge XD

  • First :23 seconds; 'Finally, a band smaller than our high school one...' A few seconds later '...oh...'

  • and people wonder why the band plays to fast....the crowd dont know jack about timing

  • Love the HAWKS transition.

  • @joepee24 I said it looks smaller, not that it was. Obviously the field would be regulation size. @6000tearsEyEcry probably meant the same thing. So...yea.

  • this is amazing.. I can't wait to get out of highschool and be in a BIG marching band! :D Kudos if you were part of this band :D

  • (510) 594-1111 HEY CALL ME, I PROMISE I WILL PICK UP.

  • joepee24 I figured that out after looking at the field more carefully but my comment was already posted and couldn't be erased, thanks for telling me anyways!

  • joepee24 I think 6000tearsEyEcry has a point. The actual playing field looks smaller than most in college.

  • @xcskierboy11 nope, NCAA regulation size football field. The stands are closer to the playing field so there isn't much sideline around the field, which makes the stadium so loud.

  • @xcskierboy11 wow both you and 6000tearsEyEcry are retarded....

  • @xcskierboy11 i think the reason the field looks so small is becuase of how many people are there and the colors they are wearing and the Band is huge.

  • this is amazing i wanna be in a band like this!!! although im only in middle school..............long ways to go..........but this waz truely amazing and nobody waz out of formation..........it waz kewl!! :)

  • ISU fan, but i follow the Hawks pretty close when they aren't playing each other...Anyway, i always love it when the one tuba plays the fight song and everyone sings...it's so cool!!

  • Magnific

  • /watch?v=WGkWaMnSeHU

  • Christ the battery is a big as our highschool's marching band

  • marching bands look cool I live in Australia we don't get march bands down here but it looks cool

  • 0:21 It looks like a penis

  • 00:21 It looks like a penis

  • thats where im going!

  • ahahaha pur band is like as big as half of one of those lines, seriously

  • that is a small football field

  • Ohio state is better :D

  • hahaha i dnt think thats a small field i think thats a big band lol

  • I hate it when the crowd claps out of time.

  • isn't that half of the field.... ?_?™

good point it does look small 6000tearsEyEcry

  • @camodude101 You clearly know very little about ISU's marching band or Iowa's for that matter. ISU uses waddle step in their pregame, not just high step, and it looks ridiculous. Iowa uses high step for the entire duration of their pregame, nothing else (most college bands do).

I question the significance of abunch of alumni keeping score on the bands. Are they ISU alums? It would explain a lot. Both schools have good bands, just leave it there.

  • UI marching band is one of the loudest sounds on earth!

  • @uncleben03 It's because of the shape of their stadium. The band itself is only fairly loud. Nothing that impressive. I hear there several times a year and there are definitely louder bands.

  • Ohio is better

  • Idk why, but the football field looks really small

  • An amazing arrangement of the National Anthem. The Hawkeye band is really outstanding. Along with The Ohio State band and the Million Dollar Band of The University of Alabama, the Iowa band is superb. A pleasure to watch and listen to.

  • And don't forget The Pride of the Southland Marching Band (Tennessee)!

  • would love the Hawks to join the Big 12 and get Iowa State outta there. We need more top notch programs in the North Division. A Cornhusker fan

  • is this necessary? really?

  • @chrissycrazy4 yes, why yes it is.

  • Your just saying that because a typical Nebraska fan can bear losing to Iowa State at home. LMAO What a great day that was.

  • speachless!!!!

  • wow!!

  • I remember this game, it was such an amazing atmosphere.

  • i love how they enter the field! i also love the formations they make!

  • HOW BOUT THEM HAWKEYES!!!!!!!!

  • You Suck

  • Wow, there a really good band!

  • Amazing marching..but really wish I could of heard them more :\ Guess thats the draw backs of a huge crowd.

  • Because they're in the Big 10, they often don't get the credit they deserve, Iowa's got quite a good band. I often wish there was enough money so all the Big 10 bands could go to every game at home and on the road. I always love it when the PSU Blue Band comes to the Big House...two great bands on the same field, it's just awesome.

But now I'm getting long winded, my point being: the Big 10 has the best bands in the nation...period!

  • Very gracious remark!

    Go Hawks!

  • Only two Big Ten schools without the Sudler Trophy. Minnesota and Wisconsin. In my opinion, Minnesota strongly deserves it.

  • @gomichigan14 One thing for me, thats really amazing is they have some of the best drum majors in the Big Ten, along with Illinois (and Nebraska #bias) and Michigan. It's a great group of folks. I have a few friends in it, so it's always impressive to see them.

  • my band director introduced me

    to the course-style marching

band and it really opened my eyes

as to how much I DON'T know.

i was never really interested in

this style of band until i started

paying attention to the little things

    i never noticed before.

this performance was a 10 in my

    eyes. they really impressed me.

  • what do you mean Course-Style? Do you mean Corps. Style? Just wondering.

  • i am soo sorry.

they sound the same so i

    always thought that's what it

    was called.

  • i thought thats wat you meant. Do you want to be a HMB member?

  • that was actually pretty cool

  • go hawks..and thats all i gots 2 say 'bout that!!

  • haha i was the leader of the color guard for this game...can barely see myself but still cool lol

  • ur pre-game has like, 7 sets? I think my one in High School had 10, and the werent all nice little lines and easy diags to dress.

my NCAA band pre-game show has 28, think we park and blow much?

  • I didn't realize it was a competition.

  • yeah, I think you probably do. Which "NCAA band" do you belong to? Show some maturity and respect a Big Ten band, or go back to your beloved high school.

  • The Pride of Arizona.

look up the led zeppelin show if you want some proof, im not gettin it for ya.

...First alternative marching band in the world

  • You know, instead of commenting on his video, go spam me or something. I don't care what you call me, or if "fucking" is the half of your vocabulary, but it's a waste of space trying to argue on the comments.

  • Thats sooooo awesome!

    i love the formations!

  • I wish that made sense, but it doesn't.

I don't even know why you bothered replying; you shouldn't be insulting this guy in the first place. He puts a video up, and you complain about the field being too small? Unless the title of the video was "Biggest Football Field in the Whole Freakin' Universe", don't bother.

  • Uh, you were commenting on his video, so he has the right to say something back to you.

Plus, I don't believe you finished the fail of your insult..."your mom..."?

  • hahah ur fucking fail tears....yea all NCAA standard field idk...lmao nub

  • really??? oh I was under the impression that all NCAA football fields are the same size..... buuuut I guess I could be wrong.. I think as wrong as I am about Kinnick being in the top 25 largest college football stadiums... I guess a SEATING capacity of over 70,858 isn't THAT big...

  • @joepee24 Just looks smal because of how close the seats are to the field.

  • For peak musicality, mobility, balance, and to allow for the best, most versatile drill, a marching band should always only be limited to 100-145 members....

  • not necessarily... i know of plenty of 200+ bands that can perform sophisticated drill well

  • do they have a show?

  • Yes, I believe that game was our "jazz" show featuring one of our jazz professors on trumpet. I think we played "A Mis Abuelos," "McArthur Park," and "Birdland"

  • Diana Read waz a whole lot better than her!

  • I hate to say this, but the Iowa bands back in the 80s were much better. I was lucky enough to go to Rose Bowl in 82. The band had over 300 members and the drills were much more difficult than today. Not saying that this band sucks. Just not as good.

  • I'm a Hawkeye forever, but I understand your point. Even in the late 90s the band had about 290 members, This group works hard, sounding and looking fabulous. Their 2007 halftime show was outstanding. I'd like to the band to be "miked" when they take their place in the south stands during the game. My seat is on the north goal line and we can not hear them play..and we want to! ON IOWA!

  • How do you get any musicality or technically difficult and visually appealing drill with 290 members?? All you get is a disgusting amount of volume and blaring! They can barely move 10 yards without bumping into someone else...

  • The purpose of this band is to help support a football team you DCI dork

  • that's right, get that drumline moving!! and that step looks awesome.

  • that is sooo awesome. I sooo wanna go to a Big Ten school because they have great curriculums and marching bands!

  • wow their lines are super straight! i like how they spelled HAWKS then flipped it around

  • big ten bands rule!

  • We are from I-o-wa, I-o-wa, that's were the tall corn grows, go Hawks!!!!!!!!

  • I love the Hawkeye Marching Band! I always look forward to game day in Iowa City! My Hometown! GO HAWKS!!!!!

  • ok... at first i thought that they only had like 20 marchers. lmao. im wronggg

  • OSU fan here...I just want to say along with my band comment that I have been going CFB games for 20 years and I have never been inside a stadium that was so loud..including the Penn State game from the previous year. But still we beat the he!! out you guys. When I look at your non-conf schedule I cannot believe you guys play so many pansies. How in the world do you guys lose to Iowa State so regularly? Is that even a D1 program?

  • From what I see, OSU does not have a hearty non-conference schedule either. Just remeber the Florida game, now that was a whooping.

  • I love the pun on Iowa States stutus because they suck, however, they are a big 12 team and Iowa is the only game they prepare for. Kind of hard to beat a team that prepares for you year round.

  • You've got a point there, because Iowa has lost to Iowa State too many times. Is it hard to beat Western Michigan too?

  • I was at both Western Michigan games. In fact, that 1st game against them was my first hawk game when I was 10. Season tickets since 02. We sucked the 1st time, and dropped the ball (literally) the second time. I'll be a hawk fan through and through.

  • Yea what's with your team making complete idiots of themselves and the Big 10 against Florida?

  • I have a dog

  • What grassy knoll? Kinnick has no grass seats.

  • Agreed, whoever said that has obviously never been to Kinnick. And of course Ohio State beat us, but they also embarrassed themselves and the entire midwest in that one game against Florida............

  • That stadium sure was loud.....then the game started.

  • haha, osu shut them up, fast

  • I find it interesting that your stadium makes many visiting fans sit on the grassy knoll. I'm not saying...I'm just saying.

  • Iowa State has the grassy knoll, this is Iowa, we have seats...

  • Right, that's what I'm saying. My comment was for bigpeen1, but I forgot to click "Reply" first.

  • ISUCF"V"MB > IHMB

  • I'm not going to even dignify that with a comeback..

  • hahaha...I love you UI fans. In all seriosness though, the atmosphere in that place is craziness and is very intimidating. It always seemed interesting to me how they split up the visiting team's fans all throughout the stadium rather than sitting them all together...for obvious reasons of course. See you next fall @ what is now an actual rivalry game.

  • I strongly disagree

  • Actually ISU and Iowa MB are not in the same category. Iowas MB is an award winning MB affiliated with one of the nations best public university music depts. ISU doen't even have a music dept. ISU MB also does not enter MB competitions and is not a member of the NCAA MB competition union. Its basically just a bunch of students who get uniforms and played in HS. Iowas MB is consisted of many music majors who likely will end up with more musical education than ISUs band director.

  • Paednoch--

I'm wondering, to what exactly are you referring when you say "NCAA M[arching] B[and] competition union"? Who are its members, when and where are competitions held? I'm not currently aware of any competitive opportunities for collegiate marching groups, and I'd be interested in learning about any.

    -J

  • Yeah... i've never heard of a NCAA MB competition. I'm in the HMB and as far as i know, Iowa and the rest of the Big Ten's marching bands have never competed. I don't think any other conferences compete. I'm not sure where you are getting your information from, and not to really defend ISU, but ISU does have a music department...(it's just not as good) ;)

  • @joepee24 You're correct... the HMB doesn't compete nor does ISU (they might have in the past but not for a very long time). And ISU's music program is good. Having said that you can't compare the two bands really because they march different styles and shows. HMB is all about straight lines and marching in unison. ISU's band does a lot of really tough formations and has a lot of different things going on all at once.

  • @joepee24 They also use many of the same steps, but many different ones as well. ISU's pregame is marched entirely with a high step--incredibly difficult to do well for 10 minutes.

Both bands are good but I give favor to ISU. They are doing harder formations, playing harder music, and are all around a better band. While there are no official competitions there are unofficial performance scorings for both bands throughout the season (done by a group of alumni from both schools).

  • @joepee24 ISU almost always wins.

  • The bands of the Big Ten, including Iowa's HMB, are steeped in as much tradition as the football teams we support. Big Ten bands are by far the best in the country. Sorry that the same can't be said about the ISU band.

  • I was there--amazing spirit! Great music!

  • thats awsom
