people think its cruel to put the dog in the water yet people put babies less then 1 yr old into pools aswell? this dog is older then a baby in dog years and although dogs do have the instinct to swim, some dont understand how to stop their front end from going underwater(head and neck) dogs need to be exposed to deep water at a young age so they can learn how to work out their balance

I have two dogs and introduced them to (though i wouldnt call it socializing) swimming properly, which certianly was not in the deep end of a pool with chlorine. I did it where the dog could still touch the gorund nearby and netiher of my dogs ever reacted like that. That right teach your dog to be scared of water, it's good socializing. I'm done have a nice life.

I also have a dachshund but she needs help swimming because of her long body. I put a doggie life jacket on her and a lot of people laugh but this way she became more confident in swimming. Without it, she turns over in the water and panics because her back legs won't stay in the water for long. I can tell you guys are good pet owners because you did not want to stress out your dog. Good job on keeping the kids in check with the dog. :)
