Hello, What I am wondering and curious about is how you took the video. I do not think anyone held the camera while you took the drive because the picture is so steady through out the entire drive even when the front end will dip and bounce. I would guess that you mounted the camera somehow. A very nice job well done! Kielbasa
@CzapigaKielbasa Thank you. I had it mounted on a tripod on the floor in the back and zoomed in a little. I wish I had done the same thing in the Cloud I used to have.
Mr ShandyHall I've never been to the States but would love to spend a couple of months pottering around (by that I mean going all the way round America) Any ideas where I could buy a reasonable RR
(early Spirit perhaps) use it for 3,4 months and give it back again? I love going off the beaten track and camping. I was almost born in the back of a Bentley R type. These cars are in my blood. Could one rent, without it costing an arm or a leg? Seriously.
Renting one would cost appendages. You may want to buy one and then sell it when you are done. There are lots of places where you can buy them, but you never know what you are getting. Maybe someone else who reads this may have an idea.
The later Spurs/Seraphs have far more complicated electronics. Are you finding them to be problematic, as BMW owners are?
When our early nineties Volvos finally gave out, we switched to Lexus, with the intention of treating them like paper plates: trade every three years...no attachments....
But we're big people, and Rolls ergonomics suit us better. Do you think RR is still suitable for long-term (10-15 years) everyday driving?
The car I have is a 97 and I have not had electrical problems that I would consider out of the ordinary for these cars. I need to keep the battery on a charger when I don't drive it for a while, the seat batteries and the alarm batteries go out, but that is to be expected at this age. The two big things I have had to do in the 4 years of my owning the car is fix the A/C and replace the steering rack. Spurs are known for needing the steering racks replaced. If you get one make sure that is done.
Excellent! Thanks for those reassurances. I was afraid I'd be buying into a situation like Lagonda owners faced, with a complicated yet ill-considered electrical system damning an otherwise magnificent car to failure. Sounds, though, like these are dependable cars for reasonably provident owners.
Assuming one DID acquire an older (maybe '86), low mileage Spur (I know that low mileage is generally bad) with little maintenance, just how expensive are we talking here? Twenty to get the systems flushed out, the bushings replaced, all the little rubbery things that go bad... ?
Or are we talking about realizing that it's a seventy thousand dollar refurbishing job, and that it's best just to eat one's loss and have the car parted-out? You go to RR meetings, and have heard the stories...
Only looking at he car would tell you that. I have heard that you want a 1987 1/2 or newer car because of several factors, electronics being one of them.
These are beautiful automobiles, and to megaswenson, find one ( if pre-owned), its owners did what needed to be done WHEN it was needed. you shouldnt have a worry. im looking at getting one, when i close my home ( sell it), ive worked hard, i wantone ofthese. always have, always will. to teh OP. a VERY nice ride, but how quiet was it inside while cruising, it seemed loud, but then again, the roads were less than stellar
Which do you think would be better- buy a more expensive Silver Seraph or buy a cheaper Spur? Which would be more enjoyable as a car to own or even one to personally work on?
Sorry about the long delay, I just got back from the RROC meeting. A cheap Spur may be the most expensive car you will ever own. Know the car's maintenance. Thatis MUCH more important than mileage. Generally newer is better than older. I have always heard that one should get the best car that he or she can afford. Have the car inspected by someone who knows R-R's.

A fine Automobile I have owned Cadillac a few Lexus's and currently a BMW 7 series. How does the Rolls Royce compare regarding ride?
MICRcheck 1 year ago
@MICRcheck It rides very well for a 12 year old car. The ride in the new Phantoms is phenomenal. There is nothing like it.

Great video! I pictured myself in the car, all the way. The only part that troubled me was the vibrating windshield wiper.
