  • How do you call that scale?

  • @Danrm95

Thanks for watching! In the first part of the lesson we have E minor blues (1-b3-4-b5-5-b7). Then we have A Harmonic Minor (1-2-b3-4-5-b6-7). The last riff is in A minor blues. :-)

  • @SarahSpisak Thanks alot!! and please make more videos like these, its really helpful

  • @Danrm95

I'm glad this was helpful! There's plenty more like this on the full-length lessons. :-)

  • Can someone please tell what type of guitar she is playing!?!?!?!?!?

  • @TheDrummerGuy100

    It's a custom-built Spawn by Neal Moser. :-)

  • You kick maximum ass my lady!!! Keep on rocking girl.

  • @Cook2430

    Many thanks! :-)

  • @tweekin001

See that i said "bad kitchen" before she asked anything....fkin idiot...succesful bands dont grow in trees so i play guitar as my own fun...

  • @SarahSpisak

I play guitar 4 fun. Just joking

  • bad kitchen

  • @TheAsdffaaa

Is that the name of your band? ;-)

  • @TheAsdffaaa Bad band name.

  • you go girlfriend lol

  • @BowMasoku2010 Quality comes at a price. If you cannot figure it out, and find this companies videos helpful, keep buying them, so you dont have money for professional gear, so you dont get way past this crap because this isnt even starting gates material, and stay playing beginner guitar for the rest of your life. You have to be more than ontop of whats the best of guitar to be a real metal musician, theres no future in your guitar playing if you focus on playing like this.

  • Nice. How did you get that Pantera like tone? I play on a 30 watt Traynor amp with a Boss Metal Core pedal so yeah.

  • @jedimastergarcia87

Thank you. I played my Moser Spawn through a Line6 Pod 2.0 and recorded the direct output.

  • awesome metal lady ;) \m/

  • @Lychaon87

    Thanks for watching! :-)

My new 3 DVD set, "Melodic Principles", was released today.

    -Sarah

  • I wanna sound like Sevendust...kickass riffs...

  • I dont see how any of this video is relevant to metal in any way whatsoever. If you want to sell DVDs, try updating your ideas another 20 years ahead. Basic techniques should include sweep to tapping, four note per string runs, multi tapping, triplets at over 210 bpm, and of course breakdowns. This video basically sounded like 70's classic rock riffs, rehashed. Please learn how to tune your guitar also, the intonation might be broken, as most of your notes are very flat.

  • @JohanDVanderbal

Wow- if those are BASIC techniques your students must be VERY advanced!

And yes, the lesson does begin with ideas from an earlier era before progressing into modern ideas not included in the free preview. Learning from a historical perspective is a great way to build a solid foundation. But I don't have to tell you that- you know everything already! ;-)

  • @SarahSpisak If your making a "Beginner" Instructional DVD, you would probably want to call it Classic Rock, seeing as the techniques found in basic 70's classic rock are basically what your teaching. I dont see this as being metal whatsoever, and is infact an insult to metal music in general.

I am not advanced, and I dont have to teach to make a living. If you listen to a band such as Brain drill you would notice that real metal sounds absolutely nothing like what your describing.

  • @JohanDVanderbal

I don't understand why I would change the name of a two-DVD package to reflect the content at the beginning of the first disc. What do you think of the end of disc two?

  • @SarahSpisak I dont think you should be charging anyone any money for this. Also, you should browse the home made lessons on youtube currently that are free. People are making real metal techniques available to anyone for free just by sharing knowledge. Knowledge is becoming free, thus I dont see a point in selling a product that doesnt even contain actual basics that are free on the internet. Look at Luca Turilli, you should know who he is, Guitars of Rhapsody of Fire.

  • @JohanDVanderbal

You'd be surprised, then, by the market for high quality DVDs. We have a large body of students who are able to discern the difference between professional lessons (and lesson support) and the free YouTube lessons.

  • @SarahSpisak Again, you ignore my references, Jason becker was more technical 20 years ago, and there are detailed step by step free lessons on how to play his masterpiece "Perpetual Burn" The techniques in that song are more relevant to metal music than anything metal method has ever put out, including Mr. Batio's playing, which is a far cry from anything metal. I dont see why you are fighting me on this, simply remove the video and quit now, as this is false advertising.

  • @JohanDVanderbal

"I dont see why you are fighting me on this, simply remove the video and quit now."

Uh, sure... I'll do that right away. Thanks so much for all of your help!

  • @JohanDVanderbal Why do you have to give her crap? Musicians could possibly never stop learning and it's better to be nice than to be a badass because that will get you nowhere thinkin you got everything by the balls.Respecting your elders especially.

  • @Hexomazifra Listen to Beneath the Massacre. Then tell me how this video is relevent to metal. This is how big companies sell guitars by posing them on musicians who are teaching basic basic rythem guitar. This is more along the lines of a punk rock lesson TBH. I'm not giving her crap, I'm informing because this video is ADVERTISED and is ADVERTISEMENT for somthing that is a complete waste of money, as all their information and then some is available for free on the net, and here on youtube.

  • @JohanDVanderbal First of all,Beneath the Massacre has screams in it which metal does not.How do you think Beneath the Massacre learned to play like that? From learning stuff like this. It's called the basics, kid. Alot of musicians like you tend to do this where you're at an immature ego stage of musicianship to where you think you know a few power chords and sweeping patterns that you're badass know it alls. What does advertisement matter? Gotta make money somehow.Quit bustin her chops.

  • @JohanDVanderbal

I would much rather pay for not only Sarah's DVD's, but also Michael Angelo Batio's DVD's of the "Metal Method" series. It makes sense to pay for solid LESSONS rather than rely on Youtube videos for 'education'.

And why are you bashing guitar icons who made music some 20 years ago? You start with the basics, learn the history, then you progress as a MUSICIAN. Not some uneducated 'riff' junkie who's full of themselves.

  • @JohanDVanderbal YOU WANT IT TO SOUND LIKE MODERN METAL?

  • @ex5098 Modern metal? Just modern guitar in general, this is so not useful if you've played in a real band. Her picking technique is flawed the entire time, the tone is undesirable for anything buy bedroom playing. I could go on, such as the rip off 80's thrash riffs that are missing so many staccatos its hilarious. Just listen to beneath the massacre to get why this is irrelevant to metal. We dont play guitar like this anymore if you want to call your genre metal.

  • @JohanDVanderbal well i dont like shitty metalcore playing like you do i like real metal like this

  • @ex5098 Shitty metalcore is in reference to say, lamb of god, as I lay dying, black dahlia murder. All very unmetal, pop. If you call Bloodbath metalcore, go slit your own throat you piece of shit. You dont know metal and shouldnt concider yourself someone who does. Fuck metalcore, worst piece of crap genre to make reference to, total waste of audio capabilities.

  • @JohanDVanderbal we dont play like this if you want generic screamo riffs, and have your guitar tuned town to like drop-c,we play like this if we want, well ya know.. metal!, so dont think just cause you like super heavy music you have the right to bash actual metal acts, which you know nothing of. p.s. name 10 true metal bands or as you would call them, br00tal or TRVE... sincerely kyle, have a nice weekend douchebag!

  • @ex5098 Drop C... Are you kidding? Majority death metal bands either play with 7 strings, or are in C standard or lower, and its not frowned upon because it does in fact sound better. Not only that, if you arent a fucking moron, it makes no difference the person's tuning regardless, you just change the fucking strings to heavier ones. On that same note, who here uses strings lighter than 12-54 sets? Because I find those floppy in E standard tuning.

  • @JohanDVanderbal your kidding i can tell in your ignorance, tunings lower than drop c are usually pure shit, and supposably br00tal

  • @ex5098 Your being hypocritical now, you tell me you like the bands I list, then tell me tuning lower than drop C is shit. Get your head out of your ass, majority bands I listed that you just agreed you like, tune lower than D standard, and majority of them do not use drop tunings, I will never use a drop tuning, I dont see a point, just tune it to the standard version. Listen to Reinkaos by Dissection, that CD is mostly in C standard, but its tight and sounds more like rocknroll.

  • @JohanDVanderbal just cuz somethings new doesnt make it better and the only way of doing something,

  • @ex5098 don't know many bands that play in drop c besides Exodus and they can get away with it. I think those bands tune low to make up for their horrible playing.

  • @ex5098 BTW, look at any of my videos and tell me again I dont know what i'm talking about. I looked at your profile you ignorant little fuck, your dont know shit about shit. This bitch is making money by selling moronic beginner lessons ripped directly off troy stetina from the 80's. For one, theres already enough newb lessons on DVD (which aparently is some magic amazing device) that its a waste of plastic. There are better and more advanced guitar lessons for free on youtube. This is a joke.

  • Viraemia, Bloodbath, Beneath the massacre, The faceless, Spawn of possession, the amenta, portal, asmodeus, DARK FUNERAL, CANNIBAL CORPSE, MORBID ANGEL. Maybe try learning what metal actually is these days dumbass. I looked at your profile, your what, 12? Blacksabbath is from the 60's, your 12, listen to your fucking era. And if you dont like my attitude regarding your ignorance, think about one more thing. ITS METAL YOU FUCKING POSERS, LEARN HOW TO BE THE BEST, NOT THE WORST, FUCK THIS DVD.

  • @JohanDVanderbal i love some of those bands, but they wouldnt be here without sabbath

  • @JohanDVanderbal what are you like 5? get the dicks out of your ears and learn to respect talented bands no matter if there new or old

  • @JohanDVanderbal your an idiot, those bands you named off pretty much are crap. Looks like your into that screaming crap that talks about mutilation and worshiping satan. Death metal doesn't sound good at all. Sarah's riffs get you on the good sounding metal music.

  • 3:38 Sweet

  • @djchonny

    Thanks!!!

  • @thecravenator42069

    Learning isn't for everybody.

  • I immediately exited the video. that god damn guitar.

  • @IPlayGamesYe

You like my guitar? Thanks! ;-D

  • @SarahSpisak

You should see my son's (Joe spisak) guitars..

  • I wish i had a girlfriend who could play this riffs, i've just learned all of the riffs from this vid. this woman is a guitar godness :D,

  • @Fuuuuuucccccckkkkkk

Thanks- I'm glad you enjoyed the lesson! ;-)

  • omg those guitars :O

  • Awesome. Very precise. Don't know how you get such clear tones but it sounds great!!

  • @iknowhowtobenerd

    Thanks!!! ;-)

  • Very cool riff! Thanks for sharing. :-)

  • Wow im impressed Sarah. Great Dvd so far. You have really good tone too. Always sounds like my wah is on....

  • @DimebagZappa

Thanks! If you like "Metal Riffology" I think you'll really enjoy the upcoming "Melodic Principles" DVDs too. :-)

  • jesus christ where did she find that guitar..that thing looks sick

  • Going to the local store for lessons. Hope it shows up soon. I've learnt so very little over 4 years. A couple scales... That i dunno how to use and a bunch of songs and few solos.

Im stoked to get learning this.

  • @DimebagZappa

Thanks so much for your purchase! I think you will have a lot of fun while learning to play and write some killer riffs. Please keep me updated on your progress! :-)

  • Ordered! Finally get a little theory and lessons without

  • Been thinking about buying a metal method dvd for a while, a batio one at first (after meeting him) but thats way too hard for my skill. Im ordering Metal Riffology immediately.

Im sick of playing other bands music. Hope it helps!

  • oh my goddd!!!! nice guitars lady :)

  • @Slipknotkid4321

    Thanks!!!

  • This is a terribly presumptuous thing to say and frankly I'm appalled at my own cynical judgement, but based on what I saw, I really didn't expect to hear something so damned cool. Thanks for the upload, I have learned TWO valuable lessons today.

  • @xstevie666

LOL!!! Thanks- I'm glad you enjoyed the lessons. My friend Rich taught me that "every day is a school day". :-D

  • what's the intro and the next song? please? xD

  • @Enriquegg

Thanks for watching! All of the music was written by me for the DVDs and is based on the riffs I teach in the lessons.

  • @sarahspisak it probably is a spawn though. this is my first moser guitar. ive mostly had ibanez, shecter, esp , bc rich and dean. i loved the style of this so ihad to get it haha.

  • @mickthomsonify

Yes, that's one of the original Spawn imports. Hang on to it! Those are no longer in production.

  • this is the first moser i have had. i think i heard the guy at guitar center say epi, but im not sure. either way, i like it:D

  • @sarahspisak try "nicholas newman" my page should show up.

  • @mickthomsonify

OK, I found you! That looks like one of the Spawn imports. I never heard it called an "epi".

  • try searching "nicholas newman", i dont think thats me.

  • @sarahspisak i set a picture of it as my facebook picture. search my name: (nicholas garrett newman)

  • @mickthomsonify

I just sent a friend request to Nick Newman (Garrett Newman). Is that you? I can't see the profile pic until I'm "friended".

  • @sarahspisak i have a moser epi, i switched out the two pickups for duncan blackouts and traded the licenced floyd rose for a real floyd rose. mine has the same finnish as the one you playing too, with whiteish/ silver binding. two volumes, one three way, and on tone. moser's are awesome.

  • @mickthomsonify

Thanks! I Googled "Moser epi" and didn't find anything... Do you have a picture or a link or anything at all?

  • I have the same moser epi custom that she is playing:D

  • @mickthomsonify

Hi! Which model do you have? Mine is a custom built Spawn, so I think you must have something a bit different. :-)

  • merry me.....

  • Awesome DVD set, Sarah. I'm getting so much value out of them!!! But buyers be warned.... Watching these videos could cause you to end up buying a Moser.... and then another... and another.... Moser Infatuation and Acquisition Syndrome (MIAS).

  • What kind of guitar are u using? its look like a bc rich design...correct me if im wrong, cuz its amazin

  • Thanks! I'm glad you like it too. People seem to either love it or hate it. ;-D

It's called a Spawn and was built for me by Neal Moser of Moser Custom Shop. Neal used to work for B.C. Rich.

  • @SaraSpisak

What kind of tuning are you using at example #53`?

  • Thanks for asking. The whole program is in standard tuning. Some of the riffs must sound pretty heavy because I get this question a lot! ;-)

  • i don't really like the sound of metal, but its much more musical and musically sophisticated than, say, modern pop. i just miss rock and roll bands like zepplin that were borderline metal, but still had some of vestigial sound of their rock predecessors.

  • @Anitrop i know what you mean but i ma getting into metal more bands liek 3 days grace they are really a sick band give em a listen if you havnt alreaddy

  • Wow. Just watching this video once has taught me heaps! I might just buy the DVD

  • Thanks! If you liked the samples I don't see how you could go wrong with the DVDs.

    ;-)

  • whats the song at the start?

  • Thanks for asking! That is music that I wrote and performed for the DVDs. It is based on riffs from the lessons!

  • @SarahSpisak You wrote that...thats awsome, i like it

  • Thanks!!! That's the most fun part of doing the DVDs. I write examples for the lessons and then develop them with drums and bass.

  • Fuck it's the Moser Spawn!! that guitar is not being made anymore!!!

  • Yes, I got really lucky! This is one of no more than three custom handmade Spawns (there were more imports). I have serial #1.

  • What equipment do you use? I Really like the sound that guitar/amp uses. Do you use pedals?

  • Thanks, Ted! In this video you are hearing my Moser Custom Shop guitar through an early model Line6 Pod (pre-2.0)- that's all.

  • @SarahSpisak Thanks :D

  • Sarah your obviouslly a Great guitar player , ? does your lesson teach music Theory or is it monkey see monkey do

  • Thank you! I'm glad you asked about the theory- I love to teach it and make it fun. There is definitely theory in these lessons!

  • what guitars are they

  • Moser Custom Shop!

  • Could one of these riffs be used for a future song by my band... because I didn't want to rip it off you without your approval?????? please get back with me

  • Thanks for asking. Go for it! I would love to hear the song! :)

  • @SarahSpisak Alright thank you so much..... great riffs to love them.... keep on a' rockin'

  • @SarahSpisak You wouldn't happen to have any tabs for the riff where it's listing what all you will be teaching about..... (the list)??

  • Thanks for asking! All of the music that you hear in the clips (and the DVDs) is based on riffs from the lessons. If you like what you hear, I think you will really like what is taught here!

  • Love blues scale. 3.10 epic

  • 3.10 - awesome riff- even tho its fkin easy - love blues scale

  • Thanks! Some of the best riffs are easy to play. I think that's one reason why people are enjoying Metal Riffology. ;D

  • that is one nice guitar

  • Thanks! I love it.

  • Thanks for asking... The whole lesson is in standard tuning to make it easier for the student. :)

  • Do you Tune to drop C? D? what , I use drop C it fits be best but like for you riffs that you show I'm wondering?

  • I've been playing Metal For Years, I've played with August Burns Red, did a Split with MAB, and am being Ft in BFMV's new album, but I will say by far I wish I had learned to play from you :D hahah you break everything down so perfectly and make everything easy

  • Thanks for the kind words about my teaching!!!

What was the split with Michael called?

  • @vitoline1 MAB is the best (in my opinion after BucketHead) for creating massive riffs. Awesome

  • @vitoline1 MAB is the best (in my opinion after BucketHead) for creating massive riffs. Awesome.

    WERE NOT WORTY!

  • I've been playing Metal For Years, I've played with August Burns Red, did a Split with MAB, and am being Ft in BFMV's new album, but I will say by far I wish I had learned to play from you :D hahah you break everything down so perfectly and make everything easy

  • Love th guitars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111

  • Thanks! People either love them or hate them. ;D

  • These moser guitars look great, but they are just uncomfortable for me. its not all about the looks. just like BC Rich...they look killer, but almost all the ones i played (even the really high end ones) sound like crap. But i guess everyone has their own taste :]

  • Both of my Moser guitars were uncomfortable at first (because of the body shapes) but it didn't take long to get used to them. ;)

  • i know what u mean, i had to kinda get use to my ML, but after that i loved it.

  • Satanic guitar!!!!!!!11

  • Thanks!!!

  • Wicked! Killer looks too, plus those sick riffs :)

  • Thank you! ;D

  • Is that a bernie rico or a bc rich?

  • Actually, it's neither. It was built for me by Neal Moser of Moser Custom Shop. Neal used to work for B.C. Rich.

  • Neal is a good guy, the guitar there resembles a beast, alot of his newer custom guitars actually resemble some bc body classics, personally i dont play neal moser because of the price

  • I play my Spawn every day and the investment was definitely worth it for me. ;-)

  • Oh cool, I will look up a few of them next time, i know just some of them.

I like playing/listening (to) mainly thrash/death or melodic deathmetal, or some metalcore and even some deathcore...

(there are actually too much different types of metal^^)

My fav. bands are Devildriver, In Flames,Trivium, As I Lay Dying, etc... .

Btw it is a pretty nice guitar you got there!

  • Thanks for the reply! You can't have too many types of metal. ;D

I'm glad you like my guitar! I'm playing it right now, learning some Dimmu Borgir riffs.

  • @Hisho244 i loove Devildriver & Trvium man

  • Hi, I'm actually not so into the 80's metal, but your riffs are really good; especially no.#32, I hardly can stop playing this one :)

So may i ask you from which bands you got inspired?

  • Thanks for asking! My early inspirations were Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd. Later I loved Dokken, Ratt and Scorpions. Now I study and enjoy black/death/thrash, including Sathanas and Bewitched, for example.

    \m/ \m/

    What do you like?

  • really really nice, and i'm happy that you give answers to ppl who write something - many ppl dont do that.

is there any chance to get ur dvd's in germany ?

or outside from germany but without high tax ?

i really wish to play some of that stuff, it sounds really nice

  • Thanks for your message! :)

We do ship to Germany. I don't know about any special taxes. I will ask our customer service agent about this for you. I'm glad you like my riffs and lessons!

  • @SarahSpisak

    Thank you very much !

Will you leave me an pn or will you answer at my comment here ?

  • Whatever is best for you! :)

  • "Shipping is $9.95 for up to three weeks and $24.95 for our one week shipping. The customs office in Germany may charge him a fee for importing the goods from outside the country but I'm not sure what the fees are, I just know that it happens frequently. Hope that helps!" - Lindsay in Customer Service

  • how do you get that sweet tone?

  • I played my Moser straight into an early model Line6 Pod. The rest is in the hands, I guess!

  • That is the most dangerous guitar I've ever seen haha, thats awesome.

  • Thanks!!!

  • awesome... please..... you can make a dvd with subtitles in portuguese ? i speak english but not all... i has some things that i dont understand

  • Thank you! I will see if that is possible. :)

  • wow sarah thats some awsome riffs :O im impressed :) ima subscribe to your channel couse i want err NEED more!!! lolzz

  • Thanks! If you like these riffs, please check out my DVDs. :)

  • hey sarah can u make a few more videos they are so awesome!

  • Thanks! There are three free clips from the DVDs (did you see the Pedal Tone riff?). If you like those, I am sure that you will LOVE the full lessons! Be sure to check the free PDF offer (see the end of the pedal tone lesson). :)

  • kool lesson!! excelent guitar:D

  • Thanks!!!

  • Sarah,

    here is my issue...

I have played the guitar for a lot of years.. probly 35 years I am from the 80's metal era..

But I have always just wrote my own stuff and never really learned songs ect... I have an opportunity to play for a local metal band.... what is the fastest way to learn songs... also I need to earn petals and tones as well...

  • The fastest way to learn songs is probably to make charts for them. As for the pedal tones, I cover those on the DVDs! :)

  • What do you mean "make charts for them"

  • Intro: 4 bars

    Verse: 8 bars 2x

    Bridge: 2 bars

    Chorus: 6 bars 2x

    etc.

    Something like that. ;)

  • Hey sarah what type of guitar is that

  • Hey! It's a custom built Spawn by Neal Moser of Moser Custom Shop. :D

  • NICE LESSONS!!! and the guitar fuking rocks!!!!!

    \m/

  • Thank you!!! \m/

  • nothing against 80´s lol but I don´t like this guitar to, it´s to big and not very beautiful lol^^
