Back when I had my yellow parakeet, she used to react EXACTLY the same way to the mirror. She loved nothing more than to 'tap' her beak against the mirror (and other hard surfaces... like my thumbnail)

I taught my last budgie that the mirror was a solid object and to avoid it. I had a full length closet mirror and he spend a lot of time in my room, and I didn't want him to fly into it.

So he learned to avoid the mirror! lol

Ummm, lol, it wasn't very nice, I actually grabbed him, and tapped his beak against the mirror so that eventually he comprehended that it was solid.

So he eventually got the idea XD

I'd like to test that some day. I think only (some) elephants and (some) chimps have been proven to know what mirrors are. Hard to test on a budgie though, as it involves sticking something on the animal, and then checking if it can see the sticker in the mirror - and then try to remove it from its body. Sven would never let me put a sticker on him - and he would feel it if I did!

SNOOGLY, I've watched your "Fetch The Birdie" video at least 8 times. As a long-time budgie roommate/enthusiast, I'd say your Sven is the cutest budgie ever, certainly the cutest on YouTube! They are such great pets, so easily cared for and so entertaining... our Hari ("Harry"; she spelled it thus to seem exotic)for 11 years was as much a part of our family as any dog or cat ever could be. People don't realize... a tiny bit of life like this truly has its' own unique personality! Thanks!

I wonder how Sven considers the mirror... We showed our budgie that mirrors were not "real" when he was still very young, and he has since never shown much interest in them... But I agree with greybirdy: 2 Svens is a bonus!

Sven has a different relationship with each mirror. This one (in the bathroom) is a companion to feed with seeds, and say "You don't have to be sorry" to. He always greets the one in the bedroom with "CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEKY", in a VERY deep voice. Another small one is greeted with a very deep "KKRREETTSSSSS" - I have no idea what that means! Whatever he really thinks about mirrors - he has a different 'friend' behind each of them!
