  • Great 45-rpm record with Brass Bonanza on A-side and fight audio on B-side. Many Saints involved became Whalers later! Nick Fotiu will always be my honorary uncle. YEAH, where is the video???

  • Why o why is there not a video of this brawl? That is so tragic.

  • NHL, AHL, WHA - love hockey.

  • Oh MY,these r from the way back machine. Machine gun Gord Gallant Jack Carlson!! Get ur Grain Belts a poppin!!

  • Oh MY,these r from the way back machine. Machine gun Gord Gallant

  • Are there any more old Neumy calls of Whalers games?

  • Wow. Bob Neumeier - who's the other guy? He sounds like Dick Enberg.

  • Bob Neumeier and Bill Rasmussen.

  • john garrett fighting!

  • I was at the game, I was 12, with 2 guys from high school football team. Nick jumped over the boards into the Saints bench to keep punching; goalies "whaling" on each other - smitty got the best of the saints goalie, beers flying through the air, mayhem ... it was great - I got home so late ! it was great!

  • Best play-by-play ever

  • I was 9 years old and skated mini one on one in between periods. I also had the 45 with the Whalers theme song on the other side and listened to this over and over again!! Oh Carlson just cold cocked Nick!!!!! Is there video of this somewhere? there has to be. And Smith wants a piece of Butters!!!! its just mayhem on the ice!!!!

  • I still have the album with this on it. It's got a bunch of radio fotiu highlights. Just classic.

  • Did Bob Neumaier ever sound like a man?

  • Also of note the guy doing the color commentary Bill Rasmussen is the founder of ESPN in Bristol, CT.

  • I was there about 10 rows behing the goal on the end where the fight broke out. Smitty and Garrett where duking it out right in front of us. One of the first beers that hit the ice was thrown by a guy sitting behind me. Security almost tossed my Dad out the arena, but for the fans who where sitting near us who identified the right guy. The Carlson and Nick fight was classic, at one point Carlson has Nick down in the penalty box and all you could see in Carlson arm winding up over the boards.

  • Hey Dave Hanson is in this Picture or is that Jack carlson?

  • @Wehategod That is Jack Carlson

  • By all accounts, this was the greatest fight ever!

  • I moved from Boston to cleveland in the late 80's, lost most media from my Bruins, it was till middle 90's I was in my truck on my way home from work one night, looking for something to listen to, and of all places I pick up WBZ 1030, Bob Neumeier this same announcer broadcasting My bruins, for a few years after I had the radio set to 1030 am in my truck.

  • I wonder if there is video of this incident?

  • Funny, I was at this game! I was a ten-year-old and I was just talking about it with someone. had no idea there was a piece produced about it. All I remember is Fotiu swan-diving into the Fighting Saints bench and the goalies fighting at center ice.

  • Smitty spilled him!

    Woo hoo hoo!

  • I used to listen to my 45 of this and the Whalers fight song on the other side at top volume in my room - my father would go crazy.

  • I had that 45 too! I loved it!!! I was only 7 years old when it happened.

  • @rockscene2 Normally I'm not a fan of hockey fights but this is so funny it's beyond fun. I want Neumy to do some CT Whale games, such as against the Monarchs, the P-Bruins, and the Pirates - those are the three most physical teams in the AHL's Atlantic Division.

  • I have this on record. It's one of my most prized possessions. A side is the classic Whaler's Fight Song.

  • My cousin Gord Gallant played in the WHA with the Fighting Saints and others....does anybody have anything at all with Gordy on video...Plz contact me on You Tube my handle is Krokus69...........Thanks

  • ya me to....ive been searching evrywhere for 2 days and I cant find enything....well almost enything

  • man i wish there was a video of this, it sounds fuckin awesome!

  • Too cool. Thanks for the post. Hockey is magical, man. The NHL is a little too sterile, nowadays, but hockey will always be the greatest.

  • Is this Neumy on play by play

  • Anyone in Carolina know about, or even care about the history of THE New England Whalers?

  • i was at this game. 14 years old and i still remember it like it was yesterday. wow, thanks for posting this, it brings back a ton of memories.

  • Hartford Whalers (New England at this point) will live forever. SHAME SHAME on Peter Karmanos.

  • 100% agree with you!

  • Didn't they base the movie "Slapshot" on this one?

  • I don't know if this specific brawl was an influence, but Jack Carlson was an influtental source. Jack was supposed to be in the movie with his brothers Jeff and Steve to play the Hansons, but he was sent to the WHA and couldn't make the movie.

  • Fotiu and Carlson shaking hands in the traditional hand shake to end the series? Beating the crap out of each other in the benches and then thanking each other for their time at the end. Good ol'fashioned respect. Gotta love it.

  • And the organ keeps playing in the background. Classic.

  • I just wanted to say thank you for posting this. When I was growing up, my dad gave me a Whalers cassette tape with "Brass Bonanza" on one side and this fight on the other. I played that tape until I killed it, and I haven't heard this recording since (almost 20 years).
