A great tale. A great song. how many great undiscovered talents out there die and only their dog and best friend really know how great they were. This tells the tale with the best possible ending..........Fins Up!
"A tombstone for a crown" Absolutely, he was more the poet than the entertainer back in the day. White Sportcoat IMO was his best Album, by far.. Yea,, when it came out, CD"s were only a gleam in some geeks eye. Still like him but LOVED him back when" he was just a poet who lived before his time."
Keep on going Jimmy. You & I are the same age, and I've been a Parrothead since before there were Pheads. I think we were just called boat bums back then. There was the sea, women, boat drinks, etc.. I don't remember what we did for music before you came along.
I always just take it for granted that you're coming back with another tour....thanks for all the great shows so far. Looking forward to the BIG TOP TOUR this year.
Jimmy is as big now as he has ever been. His music has changed - but so has he. But I can understand what you are saying - the old stuff is good - but I like it all - the old and the new. I think some of Buffett's more obscure songs really show the thinking man, the well-read philosopher on life, that he is. At the same time - the fun-loving, fire up the blender man is there as well.
Hard to believe that I have been listen to Jimmy for over 37 years. He is always good. However some of his older ones, such as this are remarkable. I think he was more of a poet back then.
@zezimarules1 this is my favorite buffett song. i first heard it when i was in 6th grade about 15 years ago. I got a dog shortly after.and named her Spooner and she was the best dog/best friend i could ever ask for. She died 2 years ago. i miss that ol' dog growin' old on steak n bacon like crazy
Wow...what a great old song. Thank you Jimmy. How does it feel to touch so many peoples hearts and souls?? I bet it feels pretty good.

No wonder Dylan likes this number, it's almost like it was written with him in mind

I know Hemingway was pretty popular in his lifetime, but this still reminds me of all the six-toed cats he left behind. :P
And the Key West-Jimmy Buffett connection makes it even better.

Bob Dylan said this is one of his favorite Buffett songs. I'd have to agree.
