  • I have a belt test coming in dec for green belt

And i have to perform this kata

    Wish me luck!

  • I have never noticed but do shito ryu karateka kiai during kata? i mean i'm sure i have seen them kiai during kata but in this video the karateka does not.

  • I'm a green belt at last!

  • @venusaurisgrass me too

  • @plowenson Jon wicks is my sensei!

  • hehe, nobody knows everything.. like my teacher says: the more karate you know, the more you realize how little you really know ;)

anyways.. well train very mixed in our dojo. maybe some pinan shodan or maybe naihanchi. some sanbon gumite and some kihon gumite. everybody is trying their best. if you have yellow belt nobody expect that you know techniques for brown belt but you can always try. halv a year per KYU is reasonable. but some McDojos ignore that.. how long have you trained?

  • I need to know pinan shodan to get to green belt (4th belt) at Christmas

(I allready know it though) and Pinan sandan to get to blue a month after

  • @nazacuckoo98 you shouldn't take belts that fast. blue one month after green.. that way you won't become a good karateka. I know all the katas for brown and first dan but it doesn't mean I should grade. anyways. good luck and learn the techniques well :) remember KIME ;)

  • @plowenson

I know it sounds crazy, but, I'm going to green in four months and I allready know EVERYTHING and

some stuff to get to blue, so I will be spending four months learning things I allready know.

Also, everyone who joined karate at the same time as me passed me and two other people out

in a month because we missed some classes, so I need to catch up.

And lastly, my club spends a lot of time doing things for belts lower than us, soooo,

I'm not going to miss anything

  • @plowenson i take my belts once every 4 months :T

  • @Wolfypuppygirl8 oki doki :P well for me it's every 6 months coz we're not allowed faster than that :P

  • @plowenson I take a belt each 6 months, and it's already fast.

You can't really be serious if you think you are good enough to change belt every 6 month (2 lessons of 1 hour a week). I think these days karate is more a sport like football or other sport where there is no grade so people are not discouraged when they don't get there belt. It's sad...

So I totaly agree with you. ;-)

My teacher is a wooman, 5th dan, student of Hanshi Yasunari Ishimi, 9th dan Shito Ryu.

  • @LeGrosWinnie yeah true. I train now 5 days a week, totally 8-10 hours. and I grade twice a year :P I believe in quality. I take the japanese point of view, perfectionism and take karate to your heart, not as a sport :P

My teacher is Sensei K Langballe (5 dan), student of Sensei Jon Wicks (8 dan, World Chief Instructor of WIKF), student of Sensei T Suzuki (8 dan, Founder of WIKF), student of Sensei O Hironori (10 dan, Founder of Wado Ryu)

  • @nazacuckoo98 me too.

  • Sorry to burst your buble man, but Pinan Shodan and Pinan Nidan are switched up... I was on White Belt and Your Pinana Shodan was the one I showed them but I had to do your Pinan Nidan, and they called it Pinan Shodan. Who's Right and Who's Wrong now? I'm on Orange Belt, now, and I need your help on Pinan Sandan. Nice Effort, by the way !!! Keep it up!!! You'd be a GREAT sensei!!! Who goes to Family Karate??

  • Sorry to burst your buble man, but Pinan Shodan and Pinan Nidan are switched up... • @willk098 different styles do it differently,so there's no right or wrong. our style does it your way, but my friend, who is in shotokan, does it the other way around, and instead of "pinan"series, they call it "heian" series, but i think the kanji is the same.

btw, what style do you do? im in fushinryu

  • Im testing for black belt TOMORROW, so I MUST review kata!

  • @litonfire1 haha yeah I'm grading for second dan tomorrow too :P

  • I love Shotokan too, but these katas predate shotokan and were learned from Funokoshi's teacher himself. Funokoshi renamed them to get greater acceptance in mainland Japan. I'm not making a claim of superiority as far as technique goes, but shito-ryu's version is closer to the original than Shotokan...

  • im gunna learn this one next

  • Awesome effort.

  • asi no es

  • I'm not sure what his expression has to do with his technique.

I'll say this, I studied Shotokan for nearly 7 years and Shito Ryu for close to a year. I learned karate with Shotokan, but I didn't begin to really understand it until I began studying Shito Ryu.

Both have something to offer, so I do not understand why you would a) run down an entire branch of karate based off of your limited understanding of it, and b) study a style that you do not like.

  • Make no mistake, he may not have any "expression" on his face, but his movements are exceptional and precise. I for one would not want to have to go against him! You can learn a lot from watching his movements in the video.

  • Non è un kata di shito ryu ma di wado ryu. Gnurent!

  • Pinan Sandan looks easier than Heian Sandan, same with Godan. But i think i will stay with Shotokan.

  • @Skybert89

dont switch styles !! believe me ! i knew many shotokan katas , then i switched to shito ryu and their katas suckkk, they have lot of cat stands and short front stands.. i h8 this style !

  • @AlManarTV2 yeah I know. I have been watchin some shito ryu katas where I work out, and I agree with you. One of them has learned me their version of Tekki Shodan, and it feels so weird doing those blocks. So I seriously doubt I'll switch styles.

  • very good.

  • what a peice of crap! no spirit whatsoever!!!! >:(

  • @MrWiseguy818 What??? are you serious??

  • @NOMERCY777 what I mean is that he does it sure, but with no expression at all, he's like a computer model.

  • @MrWiseguy818 I think it's because he is just teaching the movements, so that new people can learn them properly. I suppose he would change the expression while performing the kata.

  • el estilo shito ryu es el mejor, hace mas de 10 años que lo practique y en mis ratos libres le enseño a mi hijo de casi 3 años.

  • i shud to learn that

  • my dojo is so hard. :

    white belt = yunino kata

sky blue belt (strange not?) = heian nidan

    yellow belt = heian shodan

    orange belt = heian sandan

half orange half green belt (very strange = heian godan.

and then green, blue , brown, black

    im now orange belt

  • Thats not hard at all, a real tuff dojo would give you a white belt to start with and in two to three years of hard training (Some train more) you would have a blackbelt, and you wouldnt be getting it handed to you, it be from the white belt getting dirty from trianing over and over. There never used to be colored belts.

  • there are like 9 years to get to black belt.

  • 9 years? wow. Ok if that works for you then!

  • i study and teach shukokai which is a japanese version of sito ryu. i have also trained in kempo. i have worked out with and taught people who trained in shotokan. i can tell you that ALL martial arts have the pros and cons. it is more about the individual and what THEY get out of it than the style. other wise there would be ONE style that everyone studied. not all styles are going to work for all body types. period.

oh and budokanboy, the only one acting childish and trivial is you

  • @budotiger. Thank you for agreeing with me.

and 2nd, Shito ryu is Japanese,

Japan has 4 main styles of karate

    shito ryu

    wadu ryu

    shotokan

    goyu ryu

  • actually shito wadu and goju all started in okinawa, which while a prefecture of japan due to the fact is was "taken over" by japan it is very much its own country with its own customs.

shotokan is a japanese derivitive of 2 other okinawan styles shorin ryu and shorei ryu..

  • not true. wado started in japan, as Ohtsuka was a student of Funakoshi (creator of shotokan)

  • japan has alot more than just 4 styles of karate studied there...

  • but they do have the "main" 4 which is what he said. and almost all of the others are branches of these main 4.

  • Huh? what? Shukokai is a joke too.

  • yeah your really showing shotokan in a good light there huh? your not worth the energy it takes to type or the thought process it takes to think of something to say

  • Ok, Maybe if you spent more time training in that watered down art of yours instead of trying to keep me posting on this stupid subject you would develop at least enough technique to whip a Tae Kwon Do white belt.

Don't care what you think about Shotokan..go to a seminar by ranking JKA instructors and I'll guarantee youll want to cut your own throat after getting ripped off for so long in what someone TOLD you was Karate.

  • see i never said i thought anything bad about shotokan. YOUR the one insulting people left and right. i happen to know quite a few shotokan stylaists i have alot of repsect for. you just happen to NOT be one of them..

  • I have done shotokan and have given it up and started shito ryu because its better.

  • Hey Budokanboy, I was a first Dan in Shotokan, now I'm studying Shito Ryu. Shito Ryu is by far the more difficult style, a much greater range of techniques, plus it's also recognised as being the hardest hitting style of Karate. You should broaden your horizons a bit and stop insulting things you clearly don't understand.

  • Thank you my points exactly!

  • You had a bad instructor..or you just didn't have the guts to learn the TRUE WAY. 1st Dan means you only mastered the basic techiniques or didn't you know that? I've been training since 1968. I've tried several of these watered down styles everyone is throwing at me..It's all a joke.

    Shotokan rules...Isn't debate fun?

  • Well Koei-Kan rules but I think we all get the point! :)

  • You are...a fool. I mean examine what you're doing for a second. What is the value of wearing out your knees doing for example a stepping punch in a long deep stance? There is none it makes no sense.

  • If you have to complain about knee problems maybe you should train harder or just get out of martial arts all together...I'm 51 years old and have no problem with knee's...However we all get old or didn't you factor that in?

I'll be a FOOL and you keep defending watered down crap.

  • Train harder? I trained shotokan for several years before switching...the fact is that punching in deep stances doesnt make sense from a combat perspective.

And if anything Shotokan is the watered down system, since it was changed by the Japanese from Funokoshi's original system to make it more aesthetically pleasing...these pinan kata are the oldest from of the kata

  • I've trained in goju, shotokan and shitoryu, all have their strengths and weaknesses, but you have to read between the lies, think of the application within each kata, think someone is grabbing you, you pull them down and strike them whilst they are still falling down from you going down into your stance.

  • At the end of the day, its about taking the lessons from the kata that are useful to you and ignoring the rest...

  • Sorry, i completely disagree with that, you should make all your katas as good as each other. Seipai is my strongest kata, but any kata could help you , given on the situation, and all the great karate masters would have never have that outlook. For example, my poorest kata is Empi, and i wish to make that stronger. i work on all my katas, for show and incase i would ever have to apply them.

  • Well that depends what you're trying to do. I mean if you want to learn to fight, you need to be able to execute the technique without thinking and improvise. If its too complex or contrived or just doesnt work well for you, its useless to you, and although practice will improve it there are always more natural alternatives.

  • @Redstar226 don't forget that kata aren't just for practicing fighting strategies against imaginary opponents they are good for conditioning case in point the punching from a low stance while impractical for combat it is actually designed to increase leg strength to improve kick power which would be of great use in a fight.

  • Ah, arigato. I'm so glad to finally have found this. ^___^ It's a lot of help since I keep messing up the kata in class. :]\ Thanks once again. ^__^

  • This is not Tani-ha, I think:P I've learned it very much the same with minor stance and movement differences=)

  • Dios!!!!!!!! pero esto es heian no pinan ¬¬

  • heian an pinan are different, this is pinan sandan, and is performed the way i've been taught the kata (except for a few minor differences, but overall position an movements are the same), nice kata ^_^

  • Watered down Heian Sandan..

  • Heian is stotokan, shito ryu and shotokan are like cousins. but they use slightly different techniqes, like shito ryu uses neko ashi dachi, and you guys use something else. The katas are similar, but lets not be ignorant towards the styles.

  • Shotokan (JKA style) demonstrates power from internal (hip movement and body dynamics) and external force (connection to the floor). I see no connection to the floor in any of these movements you call Kata. Therefore their can only be moderate generation of power from internal force. So when I see someone doing kata this badly I figure he is a beginner or a Shito Ryu practioner. May I suggest you take a REAL KARATE lesson and learn first hand for yourself. My little Grasshopper

  • I dont appreciate you disrespecting my style, I ment no insult to you. But as far as a 'real karate lesson' goes, I'll have you know I was the eastern champion in shotokan-shito ryu fighting in 2005.

  • I don't care what you think or what style you are getting ripped off on or what kind of paper championship you have.

Real Karateka don't act like you are acting and if the truth hurts so be it.

    Get a life. Grasshopper

this will be my last post on this stupid post i Made 3 months ago.

I will not respond further to you childish trivial bullshit.

  • Ha, "stupid post" its nice to admit your faults. and I'd like to see you come over here and get your ass kicked. I dare you.

  • I'll send over a couple of 8th kyu's to straighten you out Have someone explain to you what an 8th kyu is Tae Kwon Do Boy.

  • real karate? some would say if you want real karate japan isn't the place to go. especially shotokan (which is in its own right a great art as well) which many say can be called the very definition of "kids karate" taught to okinawan school kids as part of their physical education. funakoshi wasn't exactly known for his fighting prowess either for that matter. my experience is that different arts have their own reasons for doing things like they do. rather than talk smack, try to understand why.

  • Hey Brad, Kempo sucks just as bad PERIOD

However if you want to talk about fighting prowess, Let's name drop shall we

    Tanaka, Yahara, Yamamoto

    just to name a few

I invite you to look them up no youtube.

before you respond to any certain post you should read all of my posts.

But even after you figure out that I'm right I beg you to please restrain from sending anymore responses...I personally don;t care what you think. Learning Kempo is like teaching a monkey to eat a banana.

  • kempo is just a general term for martial arts, not any specific style. infact Funakoshi used to refer to his art as kenpo jujutsu. so I guess shotokan sucks too then right? like I said, rather than talk smack try and open your mind and learn why other styles do things and stop assuming you're right. and obviously you cared enough to respond. you can dish it out but can't seem to take it. i didn't say SK was crap. you're the one bashing other arts.

  • Let talk fighting prowess huh? Try Choki Motobu

  • What a JOKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You wouldnt have said that to his face

  • Let's just assume you know everything there is to know about martial arts....So we can all move on to something else...get a life

  • no need to assume what isn't true...which is exactly my point. stop hating

  • I am a Brown with white stripe [i must do pinan godan]

  • It's called Pinan Sandan in Shito Ryu.

    There are 5 Pinan

  • Sweet this is the one i'm onna learn next.....

  • we call it heian sandan in shito ryu

  • Aren't these called "Heian" instead of "Pindan"?

  • This is Wado-ruy

  • *sigh* read the title...

  • No these are Pinan not Heian

  • different style have different name me=shukokai=pinan !=D

  • Heian comes from Shotokan, Pinan from Wado Ryu. But Wado Ryu style has grown out of the Shotokan Style. ;)

  • in kyokushin karate its pinan sono san.

  • this correct kempobrad they arn't set in stone, as i understand alot of the hand movements were open hand before okinawain kata's (pinan/heian)were introduced as physical education system via public schools, alot of the open hand movements were changed to closed hand movements to eliminate injuries when teaching bunkai and kata to school children.

  • yellow belt?????? Were taught this at green belt.

  • wow. in my school, if you don't know up to this kata, plus 3 more after it, you can't even make it to green belt

  • the katas neeeded for green belt in my school is fokyuo no ichi up to pinan yondan.

  • Most karate clubs, whatever the style, tend to use a different order of coloured belts. So this is prob why its differs :)

  • i agree

in my school yellow belt you must know taki aku (sorry if i dont spell all these correctly)

orange you must know nami ashi

green you must know pinan shodan

    purple pinan godan and nidan

and after that i dont exactly know because im only purple at the moment lol

  • hmmmm what style do u practice??? because I don't know what taki aku or nami ashi are.

  • they're two katas that my dojo sensais created

taki aku teaches basic mid block to punch combo and nami ashi teaches better use of the horse stance with pivots and blocking kicks with your legs. i might make a video if you want

  • that sounds pretty good, id like to see the different style

  • if you added me on msn i could just send them over msn

only reason is there would be too many dumb people critisizing a kata that's unique to only my dojo only and was created by one of my sensais. im just saying now it's recognised as a white and yellow belt kata in ontario but is only used by my group. that's also part of the reason i dont want to youtube it

  • at 18 seconds shouldnt you twist your body leaving the knife hand there?... Then pivoting into the back fist.

  • smileywinwin (2 weeks ago) Show Hide Marked as spam 0 (Reply) (Spam)

actually, it's a yellow belt kata

im learning it for green in to weeks time

  • I think it depends on who your sensei is. I remember mine taught this for orange belts, whilst he taught Pinan Nidan for the yellow belts.

  • good

  • my kata preferre

  • These are a bit sloppy for a black belt

  • sloppy? xD

  • Why? it's just a demo version of kata of a white belt.. It's nothing wrong w/ that..

    ???

  • actually, it's a yellow belt kata

  • I do mine at Gas Mark 6 in the middle of the oven. Mmmm

  • i do my inside middle blocks in a kiba dachi with one foot turned

  • we'll your not suppose to, cuz in real life if u do kiba dachi, ur opening way too much area to be attacked, so its best if u just do hachi dachi

  • that depends on the application also. they arent set in stone. well, theyre not supposed to be anyway.
