coal is one of the oldest ways of making energy, its dirty, bad for the environment and outdated. yeah there are carbon capturing systems but they cant catch much more than a few percent of the carbon and then that must be buried and is toxic. go green! its possible. new zealand, iceland and alot of other countries dont really use any coal. i think america should be ashamed for how much coal they use.
I can't help but fund irony in adds like this, I am Computer Tech and programmer. When I saw my jobs and those of my friends go to India there where no ad's for us! Coal is the VHS of power Generation, it's time to move on!
At Americas Power, we dont think that coal is the VHS of energy at all. In fact, todays coal-based generating fleet is 77 percent cleaner on the basis of regulated emissions per unit of energy produced than facilities built in the 1970s. Thats due in large part to clean coal technologies, which have reduced emissions and improved efficiency. The next generation of clean coal technologies can help rejuvenate our economy and keep jobs here in the U.S.
77 percent cleaner, I wonder how much of that stat is based on the fact that many plants have been shut down do to EPA regulation and the increase of hydro-electric and Solar (like the plant in Luaghlin, NV, which was shutdown for filling the Grand Canyon with smoke and after Eldorado Solar in Boulder City, NV made no longer needed ) there by reducing the overall pollution caused by coal. If closing plants is what you call "Clean Coal Tech" then it has my full support. Drop the "Spin Stats"!
YUCK!! Coal is most certainly NOT cheap, if you also factor in the associated health care costs (i.e. premature deaths, hospital admissions, heart attacks, etc.) caused by pollution from coal-fired power plants. And then there's also global warming (from the CO2 generation). God alone knows how much it would cost to build a dike all the way around Manhattan, to protect it from the rising sea!
YUCK!! Coal is most definitely NOT cheap, if you also factor in the health care costs (i.e. premature deaths, asthma attacks, heart attacks, etc.) due to the pollution it generates.
And what about the costs due to global warming, on account of the CO2 emissions caused from using coal... God alone knows how much it would cost to build a dike all the way around Manhattan to protect it from the rising sea!!!
We encourage you to learn more about clean coal technologies, and how theyve reduced emissions—including those cause smog and acid rain—since the 1970s. In fact, todays coal-based generating fleet is 77 percent cleaner on the basis of regulated emissions per unit of energy produced.
My grandfather died of black lung disease after years in the mines. It is crime to pitch "clean coal". There IS no such thing.. Let's start thinking about a mix of solar, wind and geothermal...
Were sorry to hear that about your grandfather. Of course, we know well need all of our domestic energy sources to meet Americas growing energy demand, and we support the growth of renewables like wind and solar. However, right now, wind and solar cant provide the kind of always-on power that coal provides. We need to acknowledge those challenges and come up with a balanced energy solution. Coal and advanced clean coal technologies need to be a part of that discussion.
@balancedenergy two words "smart grid" it could potentially solve the problem of interruptions to renewable energy forms, such as low wind or cloud cover.
Clean coal is, and always has been, an oxymoron. At what point do we stop being dinosaurs and start moving to solar, wind, and water power. This piece of propaganda is a two thumbs down waste of time.
On the contrary, technology has made todays coal-based generating fleet cleaner on the basis of regulated emissions per unit of energy produced. EPA figures show this. And we dont oppose with alternative energy sources like solar and wind—with our growing energy demand, were going to have to call on all of our domestic energy sources. We absolutely need to grow renewables and do more in terms of energy efficiency and conservation.
Again balancedenergy fails to include the externalities of using coal for electricity. It's just not "Clean" and there is absolutely no truth to the phrase "Clean Coal". The externalities of using coal include healthcare costs for people made sick by the pollutants associated with both coal mining and coal-fired powerplants. Mercury, selenium, lead, arsenic, it's a long list, and yet the coal industry avoids talking about them or accepting responsibility for them. Go Renewables! Stop MTR!!
Don't be deceived by coal companies claiming that coal is clean. The very process of mining coal hurts our environment and our health. Don't be selfish by thinking that the environment is a separate entity that doesn't effect us. It's not about hugging trees or caring more about animals than people. We LIVE in that environment people.
More lies and propaganda from a truly shameless industry.
An industry that hires armed thugs to bust Union organizers.
An industry that flattens mountains and destroys entire watersheds, destroying entire ancestral subspecies of Brook Trout, and leaving behind acres of toxic mine tailings.
An Industry that thinks we can sustainably rape Mother Earth indefinitely.
Energy I can feel? Yea, the black lung disease clogging my airways! I am not buying what you are selling, "Clean" coal! If you have to preface it with "Clean" when describing your product, then it is probably not a good product to being with! Your industry has done it's best to thwart alternative energy and get in the back pockets of politicians to keep us in the Dark Ages. Step aside and go by the way of leaded gasoline, smoking on airplanes and parachute pants! Game over!
This video is full of lies. The public is no longer blind to the damage the coal industry does to the people who work and live nearby, to the environment they destroy during the mining process and the resulting polution and diseases these practices result in.
Coal companies lie! There is no such thing as clean coal! It is one of the highest destructive poluting agents in the world and leaves those exposed to it with incurable diseases. Mining methods destroy the environment and polute our air and water. The public is no longer blind or fooled by ads such as this. We do not want more coal plants. We want them all closed down and converted to clean energy such as wind, solar , geothermal.!
Coal has outsourced the costs involved from mining, burning and ash disposal. They use the crack cocaine dealers accounting system . Costs they don't pay are called external and irrelevant.
We all have to live with these very relevant costs, environmental damage, and ill health. A cap and trade system with government auctioned carbon permits will begin to shift those costs back to the consumers. I think we should also add a tariff on the carbon attached to imported goods and services.
I have some clean energy for you in my toilet. What a bunch of sheeple you are to believe the "clean coal" line. Anything profitable to them is good for you. Drink the fluoride and chlorine water from your tap, while you bathe in it, too!
If everyone was shown the old mountaintops being leveled they'd fell different about the cheap energy sifted out and burned up in just a few days.
The answer for our future economy (and health, and even EXISTENCE) is putting people to work right now finding out how to power our consumptive lives with wind and solar and tidal energy.
The corporatocracy in this nation has no shame. They will do whatever it takes to turn a profit, even if it means decimating the entire planet and ruining the health and welfare of millions, all the while lying through their teeth in an attempt to appear as if they have the public interest at heart.
Make no mistake, Big Coal: We are not fooled by your snazzy ad with its upbeat soundtrack. We see it for what it is: PROPAGANDA.
If coal is such a clean and efficient source of energy, why do exiting coalminers look like refugees from a minstrel show and why does Santa leave a lump of it in your stocking if you are naughty?
Here is one American tradition that has survived and endured, but is no longer enacted from the back of a wagon. The snake oil salesman is still alive and kicking and working the lobbies of Washington on behalf of the coal industry.
Coal is filthy. Coal is a pollutant. We need solar power & wind power. Solar power & wind power are clean. There are jobs in Solar power & wind power. The worst abuse of the coal industry is mountain top mining. Mountain top mining is death to the environment.
This commercial is even more shallow than most. Does the coal industry think we are so stupid/ignorant that we will buy this? Coal is dangerous to mine, dirty to burn, and old technology. Instead of spending money on shallow commercials like this, the coal industry needs to spend money diversifying into new technology that will be safer for its workers and for the world.
Coal is not just dirty, it is filthy. Show us some pictures of those clean coal miners and then show the destruction they do as they blow the tops off of mountians and fill the streams and valleys with sludge. We don't need pretty pictures of fanciful clean coal, it has been killing people for years.
Lame. All guster no muster by environmental polluters who would rather run Bjork inspired crap ads than deal with real information. Pollution from coal COSTS the American economy hundreds of billions a year in health care costs and tax payer burdens. Let's not let a stupid Dancer in the Dark rip-off derail commitment to ACTUAL clean energy!
