His character as it has been for the past several years would probably just not fly in the attitude era. He has the charisma and mic skill to get over, that's clear even if he's whittled down his moveset in order to stretch his career. I suspect he would have done very well during the Attitude era, most likely with a more intense version of his Dr. of Thuganomics persona. As strong and resilient as he is he could make for a relentless heel and benefit from the Main Event style

Unlike The Rock who joined wrestling probably because of heritage, Edge wrestled because he loves it, dreamed about it as a child. Edge treasures wrestling so much, he didn't quit when he got the debilitating neck injury which could've killed him in the ring, only quitting when his neck couldn't last any longer. The Rock... Just comes and goes as he likes.

In these people's eyes (me included), however hard Cena try—hustle, loyalty, respect blah blah—he can never replace Stone Cold, The Rock. That's why people boo him, to knock him off his platform and it worked to some effect. You see him no longer always in title contention.

I don't have an answer for that but I think the management is trying too hard to create one in the form of an all-positive Cena. To that effect, I don't think it worked too well as evidenced by the boos. I think WWE is all about that positive image now (good guys always win...), nothing really wrong with that, but I think WWE fails to realise that we want to see human characters, not manufactured merchandises.

At the very latest, the world titles will be defended at the elimination chamber in February. Plus, now that Cena is pre-occupied with Kane, Zack Ryder (and turning heel) and the Rock (soon) it's the perfect opportunity for some younger talent to be in the main event i.e. Dolph Ziggler.
