  • I hope Wacom offers you free products. You have convinced me to purchase one.

  • can you do this same trick on corel painter?

  • @kaizaee As I recall Painter does not have the Quick Mask but it does have some of the standard selection tools.

  • very well done. thank you.

  • @vsolomito You are most welcome ...

  • love the hibiscus I have many in my area and take photos of them all the time so many different colors and sizes of them.

  • You are lucky. They are beautiful flowers.

My Hibiscus has about one flower per year and when it does I take out the camera.

Sadly - my dogs ate my Hibiscus last week and it will not be flowering again but it will remain in our memories on YouTube!

  • The Wacom tablet is excellent! It really makes all the difference. Great video!

  • They are amazing, aren't they. I am glad you found it so helpful ...

  • I can do this with my mouse.....

  • Of course you can - I never said you couldn't do this with a mouse. Simply stated - you can do it more easily with a pen and tablet.

The title of the video is "Using your Wacom Tablet ..."

The video is meant to show the effectiveness of the tablet.

  • After you color this with the quick mask... how do you make it a selection???? You don't say how to do that .

  • At 4:31 the video shows me leaving Quick Mask mode by clicking on the Quick mask Icon.

You can also press the Q key to exit Quick Mask ...

  • good work. I'm long time user of cintiq and intuos. For this work I usually use color range tool to save time and than use brush to fix any mistakes anyway keep them coming

  • With this image you are correct. The color range would be the best choice.

I did it this way so folks could see the QM in action and the accuracy of the tablets.

Nice - a Cintiq and an Intuos? A great set-up!

  • Great video dude. Dude, you kinda sounds like Jeff Goldblum :o)

  • Thanks for the nice comment - and you are the second one to make a Jeff Goldblum comment!

Makes me feel kinda good ...

  • Thank for such a clear and informative tutorial, I had a Wacom tablet for Xmas so this Vid is perfect!

  • Great - have a blast with the tablet.

    Rich

  • I am and I will no worries ;-)

  • Awesome tut! What tablet do you use & what size? I'm looking to get one myself... my family knows i'm interested & are probably going to grab me an Intuos3 9x12 for my birthday. I'm really looking forward to getting it as I do work in photoshop fairly often and I think this would make certain tasks A LOT easier!

This method of selection looks a lot easier than trying to trace the outside of the object. I'll definitely try it out. Thank you! :)

  • Hi Dave - I am glad you like the tutorial! I used an Intuos 3 6X8 for this one but I also use a Bamboo (small and Medium).

I also have a Tutorial on using the Pen Tool for selections - check it out - the Pen Tool is really amazing for selections.

  • Awesome! I'll subscribe to your channels for any future tutorials.

Have you done and/or do you do tutorials for the tablets often? I'm definitely going to need some tips as I'm starting to get the feel for the tablet. Thanks again!

  • Yup - I have about 27 tutorials on YouTube and there are a couple that are need to watch when you get your tablet.

One is how to set up the Intuos Control Panel to maximize efficiency and the other one is how to set up the brushes in Photoshop to take advantage of pressure sensitivity.

Good luck and thanks for subscribing!

  • Awesome! I look forward to looking at your tutorials! Keep em coming! :-)

  • Thanks Riberg, very helpful

  • You're welcome ...

  • your edge brushing accuracy may improve if you go to preferences/cursors and check the box that puts a crosshair in your brush

  • big big help!

  • Great! Have fun with it ...

  • Good video, 5 stars. There is one thing I don't get though. Why does white erase? I have a wacom pen with an eraser at the end, but it just colours in the same as the point end does. Can you help?

  • It has to do with Photoshop. The saying is "White reveals and black conceals" with the default colors working on a layer mask.

The eraser in Photoshop (and on the pen) erases to the background color. It bugs me so I never use it.

Like it or not - that's the way it is!

    Rich

  • Thank you :)

  • You are welcome!
