  • arai are fucking shite.i spent nearly 700 euro on an RX7 corsair a couple of years ago thinking i was buying a good helmet.theyre both heavy and noisy.it has also been falling apart for the last year.first the chin vent.then the visor and then those stupid fucking side pods.i replaced all the parts mentioned as arai conveniently sell them all separately.must have spent at least another 150 on the piece of shit.buying a shoei soon never buying arai again.....

  • nice one.. but perhaps maybe different types of helmets may also be introduced..

  • Want to reduce wind noise for your Arai?! Buy a Shoei!

  • 0:00

  • So pretty much this wasn't how to fix noise in the helmet, it was "Go buy a helmet with these characteristics.".

  • Just like when riding a motorcycle, ear plugs will make any live music concert sound so much better.

  • I just purchased a marushin rs2 carbon. I didn't notice any disturbing wind noise during my first ride. But after I've changed the visor, I've begun to hear whisling noise beginning from 40km/h and couldn't find where it's coming from. Because I've properly fitted visor, checked the air intakes for production faults, opened and closed them ect.. Anyone have a suggestion?

  • The noise matters 38 and over. come on man

  • he just advertised ARAi, didn't get anything from this video

  • just ride your bike and accept every concequences , it's part of the passion for bikes

  • @TRDBaron

That will reduce but not remove. I ride with a 15 yr old HJC, it's not exactly aerodynamic by today's standards and there's lots of wind noise even with custom fit plugs. As a result I now have pain. I'll be looking to upgrade + getting a noise reduction product like Windjammer

  • @shepherdskin what the fuck are you doing with a 15 year old helmet? The foam in those things will break down in a few years and they should be replaced at minimum every 5 years.

Unless you LIKE IT when the foam crumples into dust when your head hits the pavement.

  • what are the best helmets for 250 usd or less?....mf'n Arai is like 800...thats ridiculous

  • @4tmosk HJC RPS-10 is about $300. Best helmet for the money. Not quite as plush as the Arai, but less than half the price and super light. Of all the helmets I've crashed in (a LOT!) I've never had a concussion while wearing an HJC. Can't say the same for Arai or Shoei. Crashed wearing a Corsair and couldn't stand up without losing my balance for over a month.

  • @TSR5000 Thanks. :D

  • This didn't help me

  • ARAI sd, noting more nthing less

  • So basicallly buy an arai or cut of your ears.... Thanks mcn!

  • Stupid Arai ad. Nothing less, nothing more...

  • GOD these windows cloud ads are fucking annoying !

    FUCK MICROSOFT AND FUCK YOUTUBE

  • I use Moldex earplugs when I anticipate riding at 50+ miles per hour. My helmet is a Bell Star 2010. The earplugs work very well.

  • @38dragoon38 yes, your car is better??? does it makes 0-100Km/h in 2.0 sec???

  • 38dragoon- you are an idiot, posting that clearly shows you just want an argument and if thats all you have in your life to keep you amused i think you should go find the highest bridge you can and fall off it!

  • @bigjonesy2k7 Yes, that's right - I'm an idiot. And you're obviously a hard man (especially dressed up in those butch leathers!). So, next year when you're lying in a ditch with your leg facing the wrong way you won't want someone like me coming to help you will you? And obviously, being a hard man, you won't need tax payers like me contributing to your medical treatment will you? Dick.

  • @38dragoon38 hahahahahahahahahah obviously you are not a motorcyclist. go comment on a fucking car video mate, we dont want your shit here.

  • @38dragoon38 LOL kinda true in some respects but let me say this, congestion charge and traffic jams ;)

  • @38dragoon38 You obviously have never ridden a motorcycle, try it then talk smack

  • @MSEuropa Oh yes I have. Have you ever had a road traffic accident on a motorcycle? Perhaps not yet?

  • @38dragoon38 No and I don't plan on having one. Still, your argument that driving a convertible gives you the same experience as riding a motorcycle is utter bullshit.

  • @38dragoon38 wow... you sound like my grandmother. Fun way to live your one life.

  • @38dragoon38

better yet, why not buy a monstor truck? Not only do you get more vehicle for your money but they are also safer, you have the freedom of driving wherever you like on or off road, and even the smallest one can carry 10 times more luggage than a car. If you want the freedom of the open oceans you can even get monstor trucks that have amphibious functions! Brilliant!

  • lmao.. ok...

so how can i remove helmet noise...

said all that and nothing is useful...

  • Dude! change the title!

  • Don't understand the title when the vid only describes what causes the noise.

  • What about the wind noise? forgot to talk about that it ?

  • Wear ear plug's........

  • Crap video!

  • remove this video, it's annoying!!!

  • how to..... buy an arai helmet... pffftt

'how to' videos should actually include the 'how' bit btw.

  • ...please change the video title to: 'buy an Arai helmet'.

    thankyou.

  • bla bla bla that's all

  • Waste of time. What did he do ?

  • I've got that helmet and it's easily twice as noisy as an AGV Ti-Tech. The noise is horrendous but Arai crap all over AGV for quality. The video was a waste of time, that guy should be a politician spouting crap like that. Nothing got "cured". He could've nailed it down to a 5 second video, wear Arai wear earplugs.

  • what independent test does he speak about? Please post a link here, I want to look at top5 to buy some...

  • get a schuberth helmet, those helmets are quiet at 60MPH which is good , if you use ear plugs as well, it gets even quieter

  • I agree totally!

  • what helmet isnt quiet at 60mph?

  • I never used to use earplugs but do now mostly.

Helmets seem to have got worse over the years,

The mags used to give helpful noise ratings on the various helmets at one time !

Generally though I find you're OK without them up to around 70mph with most helmets.

It depends on how fast you and your bike are - and the particular helmet.

But I find they're a real pain to fit , sometimes I spend 5mins getting them just right !

  • I like being able to hear things when I ride for safety reasons. I dont get why people use earplugs for standard driving.

  • Do you listen to your radio in your car?

  • I'm a biker not a cager but if I did I probably might yeah. Thats partically why I feel safer on my bike though.

  • you haven't got the right earplugs then... once you do... OMG AMAZING! I'll never ride without them now. I can hear everything except high pitched stuff & wind noise. The bike engine... cars... people talking to me at red lights... everything! They'll save your ears too! if you go above 80mph on the freeway... (wind noise damages hearing)

Only regret is I can't listen to my ipod while my ear plugs are in... :(

I'd tell you what kind i have, but my dad gave em to me with no package :(

  • you nob!! People should harden the f*ck up?? Riding fast bikes without earplugs has given me irreparable hearing damage, and now I hear a high pitch whine all day every day. All because I didn't wear ear plugs.

Get earplugs, get good ones, and you can still hear all the stuff you need to and you dont screw your hearing up.

If you can't understand that, you're too thick to be on the road, so you don't need to worry about hearing things!

  • What speed do you be driving? Maybe you've just got a really bad helmet for wind noise or something? I've got an AGV Ti-Tech and its ok for wind noise. Wind noise is bad yes but I like being able to hear if someone is talking to me with it on. Your hearing is part of your balance too and I find it does make a difference if I cant hear correctly.

  • Ace

  • @johnypneumatic your a 100% correct if you forget your plugs you'll notice feeling worn out too when you get in off a long highway ride.

  • @johnypneumatic Amen, brother. I'm in the same boat and tinnitus suuuuucks the big one. I wish I could go back in time to tell myself to wear some damn ear plugs.

  • I agree. Wearing earplugs is vital to keeping the white noise (the wind noise) from entering your ears. Also what many people don't understand, all that wind noise is fatiguing. Being fatigued on a motorcycle is a bad combination. Not to mention, constant exposure to wind noise will lead to ringing in the ears, also called tinnitus. The 100 dB mentioned in the video is too loud. Where I work, a 100 dB environment becomes an hearing protection mandatory work area.

  • @MaxCruise73 Years of banging around on big bikes has cost me hearing. I fail hearing tests on the softer noises. It was decided it was the biking, although I'm not 100% in agreement I can't deny it's possible. (I neglected to mention the years of heavy metal gigs)

  • @MaxCruise73: in scandinavia there is a well known rule on worksites that

85+ Db = mandatory with ear protection. and you are allowed to be in the area for max 12 hours in a 24 hour period.

95+ Db = mandatory with double ear protection, and you are allowed to be in the area for max 6 hours in a 24 hour period.

105+ Db = mandatory with double ear protection, and you are allowed to be in the area for max 30 minutes in a 24 hour period

being in an area with above 115+ Db is illegal

  • must be mentioned though, that these rules applies to worksites and not elsewhere

  • @anonymouz79 Ha! In Australia if you're not deaf within 3 months you're deemed a bludger and will be booted off site!

  • @SierraKilo9 Haa! Oi'd raather be a biggarydo that a bladger any day mate!

  • @johnypneumatic Well said, so true!

  • @johnypneumatic pardon ?????

  • @kkhhoona nice!!! lol

  • @johnypneumatic are ear plugs only necessary for really high speeds like track days and stuff, or are they a good idea for general riding too?

  • @johnypneumatic or just buy a good sound silent helmet... did u have a tin can from 19 century?

  • @johnypneumatic what if you wanna hear the sound of the engine

  • @Crazyalbokid1 you'll still hear the engine, let's face it, you're sat right on it!! But wind noise will be dramatically reduced.

  • @johnypneumatic what made you that hurt, the engine noise or just the wind?

  • @logitechz3 lol unless you're riding with an illegal or no muffler you wont shouldnt have any problems with engine noise.

  • @logitechz3 both. The engine noise and the wind noise. Get some good earplugs. You'll still hear the engine, and other cars, but the wind noise is massively reduced.

  • @johnypneumatic

I ride an R1 with a custom lid ... I too hear a high pitch whine all day long ... so go I out on my bike to ignore her .

  • @mattloveshimself Might be the best comment I've ever seen on youtube.

  • @johnypneumatic JUST WEAR HEADPHONES YOU DUMBASSES!!

  • you nob!!

  • @quiencomoyo spoken by a true death waiting to happen lol wasnt this what that dead guy said before he got mashed off his bike because he didnt hear the buses horn. but on a serious note i have done it once before on my bike but you do need a good fitting pair of in ears otherwise they put lots of pressure on inside of your ears. and music should be listened to low or not at all. personally i advise not at all as music is easily the most obvious cause of wanting to go a little quicker.

  • I also like to be able to hear for safety reasons, but on high speed or long rides, freeways and desolate highways, I like to use earplugs to save my hearing. It makes a huge difference when after a day of riding, my comfort and hearing levels are much greater.

I just use the soft squishy orange plugs, to dampen the noice just enough, but not so much that I can't hear other traffic, etc.

  • he meant to say "below 100 decibels."

  • i have a shark S800 and i find most noise and draught comes from air getting up under the chin. when i use a shemagh (scarf) to seal this gap the helmet is much quieter.

  • At high speed the only noise i'm hearing is the engine+exhaust screaming @ 13k+ rpms at WOT. If you ask me, get a double bubble windscreen to reduce the buffeting on the helmet.

  • 1:38 LIE LIE LIE

everyone knows the corsair is a noisy helmet, it is a out and out racing helmet with no compramises for noise etc

much better off buying an astro race or similar

  • What are you talking about? Are you joking or something? HJC is made in South Korea

  • And they are not interested in bombing you or any part of the world.

  • seriously? icon is kiddie junk

  • meh, its what i like.

  • icon is made by hjc

  • Lemme guess, your wear an Icon lid and you've never tried an Arai.....

  • Actually, before I even got a helmet I was using my friend's old one, an Arai Profile I think. When I went to go get myself a helmet I came across an Icon and said, "Hey, I like this one better." So yeah that's my life story, how'd you like it?

  • Not interested, sorry......

  • lol

  • My my aren't we all a sarcy bunch? Ha ha... I thought the vid was ok. Didn't say owt groundbreaking but I value my hearing in years to come so worth the listen... (had to turn the volume up though, was talking a bit quiet).

  • I notice he had only one helmet brand on the table and in his hand (Arai). Could it be he is the "pitchman" for Arai and this is an adverstisement not a safety video. Most helmet manufactures offer helmets with defusers on it. Wow, a wasted video!!!!!

  • he did say at the beginning that they are importers and distributors of arai helmet in the uk

  • the whole point of riding bikes is 2 hear the roar of the engine, it adds 2 the thrill of riding. lol

    2 stroke!

  • He's referring to wind noise....

  • I dont care :L

  • If you don't like noise, why would ever buy anything with an engine? I love the sound of my Micron. I believe Neil Diamond sang it best...

  • get some ear plugs HOMO!

  • my helmet is very noisy it's agv who gives a sh1t, as long as your thrashing ya bike and having fun, i'm not bothered if i get off my bike and can't hear for a hour, you load of pussys

  • "The helmet isn't noisy, the environment you put it in is." Brilliant. Can you wear a helmet in a silent environment? I've always worn Aria helmets and they have always been noisy. I spoke to their factory reps at the Power Sports Show in Indianapolis last year and they looked at me like I was a space alien when I told them I was having sound issues with their product. More or less told me to take a hike. Wear ear plugs.

  • pretty much he is just selling a sponsors helmet. load of junk.

  • this is just a bloody advertisment...

  • Point 2: The noise around is very easy to cure - make sure the helmet fits you correctly in the first place.

You mean the shop will have a wind tunnel handy then..?

It's not as if you can test it thoroughly before you hand over the cash, is it..!

  • im riding 2 strokes...hahahaha good luck getting that noise out of ur helmets...

  • yeah for real i love my 2 stroke non of this happens lol

  • haha~ there will always be noise~ no matter wad helmet~ so just wear ear plugs~ i do~ and all i hear when trailers air-horn is a mini porrrrrr~ instead of PORRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR~ hehe~ ok this comment is a lame~

just wear a military-grade ear-plugs~ but remember, you should still allow yourself to hear the honking~

  • That is one expensive helmet!

  • Pointless

  • Thanks for nothing fatboy - go Shoei!

  • pointless video.

  • Nice advert for Arai...but what about reducing noise? Maybe the title needs to be changed.

  • @Swissallan How to remove helmet noise = Buy an Arai :)

  • @Swissallan Yes, to maybe, 'Subterfuge and selling Arai helmets'.

  • so .... how do you remove the noise ??

  • buy arai...

  • listen carefully to the last sentence!!

  • mann are you inteligent or what

wtf are you talking about ??

have you ever been on a bike ?

the noise comes before the speen limit o most inteligent one, so ....... yeah

  • he looks like the late John Peel - but talks cock

  • he's the image of him!

  • this guy is a purple helmet. just use ear plugs and get whatever helmet you want or dont use them and enjoy the sound of the exhaust you just paid £400 for

  • purple helmet - love that.. Im gonna use that one!!

  • yeah funny thing, when you're whipping through the air at 135mph its gonna make a noise innit

  • fkn wanker didnt show shit how to stop noise just wat causes it

  • lol he pretty much told us to buy a corseair :P and something bout head position

  • I've never had probs with noise, usually wear shoei xr800, just don't notice it, I wear earplugs at work in a job where most people don't, so I'm sensitive to noise, just don't notice it with my lid :)

  • my old signet gt is way quieter than my corsair rx7..like night & day!

  • Can someone tell me what model Arai that is on the far right? The red and white one.

  • John Peel is alive and making videos for MCN!!

  • how?

  • i currently own a Dainese Airstream helmet.

someone said that, either you have good ventilation or noise.

i have to disagree on that. my helmet is pretty quiet on highway, and that's mainly because it only has 2 inlets on the chin and 2 outlets at the bottom rear. but it has inner circulation so even in the city with low speeds and 35C temperature, the ventilation is excellent...

    i am thinking on a SHOEI XR1000 now...any opinions?

  • "... a helmet isn't noisey, it's the environment you put it in that makes it noisey"

    - wow, that's a revelation, 'cos I normally ride in a vacuum on an oxygen regulator, wtf?

A bit of info regarding making the skirt and front of your hlmet more aerodynamically quiet would have been more useful than all this waffle.

  • I use those earbuds that work very well with my helmet

  • I'm aiming to get an Autocomm soon, will probably use them with it instead of the helmet-fit speakers that come as standard (although the adaptor/extension lead is a bit pricy).

    Cheers, Dave H.

(excuse the split-in3 reply, size limit...)

  • and had a hard time with standard earbugs which don't block any of the helmet noise, until I wandered into TK-Max (note the bargain hunting?) and found some "waterproof" in-ear bugs with soft rubber grommets - these fit in the ear canal and seal pretty well (there are 4 sizes of grommet to suit your ears), blocking the wind noise but not all the useful noises (horns etc) and sound damn good too! I don't have to have 'em *that loud*, and can listen in comfort up to 120 or so.

  • Does anyone use an ipod when on thier bike?

  • Not an ipod - more a lowpod (Aldi's £30 2GB MP4 player, damn good for the money, colour screen, long battery life, tiny, built-in FM radio and plays videos too ).

    Cheers,

    Dave H.

  • I use my iPhone when I ride. I found some good headphones that hook on my ears so I can put my helmet on over them easily. I don't have to worry about noise, just listen to Radiohead.

  • I can't hear my iphone to enjoy it while riding my busa, used to when i had the stock cans on.

  • skull crusher has some great earbuds for like $20. I use them when im on my klr and im at 103-105dbs

  • its a must for me.

  • Get some Hearos ear plugs and you'll be in your own world while still being able to hear cars and the sounds of your bike.

  • p.s. i owned quantum f ,haydenrep rx7,signet (current) ,corseair, and the cheapest one is the quietest .don,t believe the sales bull!!! vents equal more wind vortex,s

  • helmets do make noise . that presenter is living proof ;)

  • ear plugs.... damn. so much bacteria builds up when you have them in. research says if you have them in for a whole hour the bacteria multiplies by 700!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Change the title to " the SOURCE of helmet noise". You told nothing about how to remove it, genius!

  • "The Corsair was one of the quietest helmets on the market"

Sorry, have to disagree. The Corsair is an amazing helmet! The ventilation on it is superb - but noise-wise, no. The helmet was not designed to reduce noise. More ventilation = more noise. That's the trade off.

Good intro though, the video does touch on the three types of sound and their main causes.

  • just use some good quality earplugs then your set

  • That wasn't nearly as helpful as the title promised. Might as well put custard in your ears, that would help.

  • How to reduce wind noise in your Arai: Buy a shoei.

  • Arais are well known for 3 things, they're very expensive, they're very comfortable but they're easily the noisiest helmets you will have the misfortune to wear.

  • very helpful thanks

  • I bought a sh!t helmet from walmart and it was very quiet, I dont know what this guy is talking about 100dbs? 120dbs is sitting right next to a jet engine. It was no where near that loud.

  • It's a logarithmic scale - imagine a curve that gets steeper and steeper as it goes up.

Leaves rustling is about 10dB; your TV set at normal volume is about 60dB; standing 30ft from a major road is about 85dB; and standing 3ft from a jackhammer is around 100dB. The increment gets less as the sound pressure goes up.

In any case, if you're sitting at 60mph for any amount of time, wear earplugs! :-)

  • Ah, I did not realise it was exponential, I assumed it was linear. Thanks for the info. One worry I have though is that ear plugs will limit my situational awareness, am I being silly?

  • Nah, you'll be fine. If anything it'll help. I find wearing earplugs makes riding a lot less tiring, especially at motorway speeds; it means I'm able to concentrate more on what's going on around me.

They wouldn't make motorcycle earplugs that shut you off completely - so I say go for it!

  • Earplugs ftw.

  • After over 10 years of dispatch riding i have to say that the greatest load of bollux i have ever hurd on an advert..

  • I have an Arai RX7 RR4, the correct size, with a well fitted visor. and beyond a certain speed or with some wind it's noisy as hell. Even when I use those fingertip-like foam earplugs. Those earplugs filter out high pitch sounds but make vibrations even worse as they vibrate themselves, and transmit vibrations from the lining of the helmet (which they are in contact with)

  • So that'll be an advert for Arai then...

  • That didn't help at all...crap.

  • the helmets are the best in the world, the video is shit

  • wanker

  • I can't ride without earplugs

  • "A helemt isn't noisy, its the environment you put it in" - WTF

What else are you gonna do with a motorcycle helmet, other than wear it on a motorcycle - ballroom dancing perhaps?

the helmet should come with a health warning, as it generates over 100dB as John says. In a factory, if the noise level is above 80dB then the employer must provide hearing protection, and remember the db scale is not linear is is logarithmic which means a 50% increase in noise level for every 3db increase

  • i wore an old helmet into a boxing ring once, haha doesn't help protect you as much as one would think..

but i digress, i'm glad you understand db, helped me decide to start wearing ear plugs if i need to commute via highway.. and well i usually wear them at the tack, but now i'm going to pay more mind to it
