On the occasion of the gala marking of the anniversary of his birth a series of events was organised within the Theme Park, but all those who wasn't be able on that day to come to Smiljan will have daily opportunities to make a tour of this memorial complex and in this way express their admiration of this great scientist in whose memory Croatian Parliament has dedicated all of 2006 as the Year of Nikola Tesla.
While the third one was placed along his favourite creek where there are also stone benches, so that
visitors who tour these particularly noteworthy memorial grounds will have an opportunity to sit just as Tesla did and contemplate upon all of the possibilities that nature offers us and from whence he drew his most valuable inventions
Tesla's importance in creating the world of modern civilisation, considering his great contribution in discoveries in the field of electrical energy, has already been especially emphasised in the frame of the present-day Theme Park. Three stone monuments were placed
there 20 years ago. The first is located at the very entrance to the house, a large memorial stone turbine, set up in memory of the greatest inventions of this global genius,
The Vaganac creek will be especially attractive as a turbine is to be placed there like the one on which Nikola Tesla carried out his countless experiments. Tesla, namely, in the area of electrotechnology enriched the world with more than 700 recorded inventions, and for
many of them it can be said that they were so far ahead of his time that a great number of them could only be applied after his death, in 1943, and many of his inventions have to this day never been repeated.
A multimedia centre will be set up alongside the house in which Tesla was born where more of his inventions will be presented and, along with the house he was born in, visitors will be able to view a large collection of ethnological material that has already been exhibited
in the outbuildings, the likes of which are very commonly found accompanying traditional houses like this one.
Using lighting and audio and video recordings visitors will be able to hear the sounds of his childhood, read his "wise sayings", watch short films on his creative work, and the lighting, which will gradually increase in intensity as visitors walk about the house will accompany the entire exhibition. On the loft visitors will have an opportunity to get to learn more about all his inventions and see a visual exhibition that will enhance the entire collection.
The house in which Tesla was born, last renovated on the 130th anniversary of his birth, will see new adaptations, although the interior will remain as it was originally. The house's interior is made up of three rooms and a hallway with basement and loft areas. Replicas of his bed, cradle, the fireplace and period pieces of furniture have been arranged in the ground floor.
The entire complex will be spread over about 14,000 square metres and will cover the area in which Nikola Tesla lived and created his first scientific achievements.
A veranda has been set up at the entry to the Theme Park, scheduled for opening on July 10 on the very anniversary of his birth, that is to serve as an information point for visitors from where paved paths will take guests to the house in which he was born, the pastoral Church of Sts. Peter and Paul
A memorial centre and theme park was opened in the village of Smiljan, Croatia, the birthplace of renowned scientist Nikola Tesla, located near the town of Gospic in the Lika region, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of Tesla's birth at which visitors will have an opportunity to learn more about the life of this world famous genius.
Nikola Tesla (Serbian Cyrillic: Никола Тесла) (10 July 1856 -- 7 January 1943[2]) was an inventor, physicist, mechanical engineer and electrical engineer. Born in Smiljan, Military Frontier, he was an ethnic Serb subject of the Austrian Empire and later
became an American citizen. Tesla is best known for his many revolutionary contributions to the discipline of electricity and magnetism in the late 19th and early 20th century. Tesla's patents and theoretical work formed the basis of modern alternating current electric power (AC) systems, including the polyphase power distribution systems and the AC motor, with which he helped usher in the Second Industrial Revolution.
After his demonstration of wireless communication in 1893 and after being the victor in the "War of Currents", he was widely respected as America's greatest electrical engineer.[3] Much of his early work pioneered modern electrical engineering and many of his discoveries were of groundbreaking importance. During this period, in the United
States, Tesla's fame rivaled that of any other inventor or scientist in history or popular culture,[4] but due to his eccentric personality and unbelievable and sometimes bizarre claims about possible scientific and technological developments, Tesla was ultimately
ostracized and regarded as a mad scientist.[5][6] Never putting much focus on his finances, Tesla died impoverished at the age of 86.
The SI unit measuring magnetic flux density or magnetic induction (commonly known as the magnetic field ), the tesla, was named in his honour (at the Conférence Générale des Poids et Mesures, Paris, 1960).
Aside from his work on electromagnetism and engineering, Tesla is said to have contributed in varying degrees to the establishment of robotics, remote control, radar and computer science and to the expansion of ballistics, nuclear physics and theoretical physics. In 1943, the Supreme Court of the United States credited him as being the inventor of the radio. Many of his achievements have been used, with some
controversy, to support various pseudosciences, UFO theories and new age occultism. Contemporary researchers of Tesla have deemed him "the man who invented the twentieth century"[7] and "the patron saint of modern electricity."[8]
Tesla is honoured in both Croatia and Serbia, as well as his adopted home, the United States.
According to legend, Tesla was born precisely at midnight during an electrical storm, to a Serbian family in the village of Smiljan near Gospić, in the Lika region of the Croatian Krajina in Military Frontier (part of the Austrian Empire), in the present-day Croatia.[9] His baptism certificate reports that he was born on June 28 (N.S. July 10), 1856, and christened by the Serbian Orthodox priest Toma
Oklobdžija. His father was Rev. Milutin Tesla, a priest in the Serbian Orthodox Church Metropolitanate of Sremski Karlovci. His mother was Đuka Mandić, herself a daughter of a Serbian Orthodox Church priest. She was talented in making home craft tools. She memorized many Serbian epic poems, but never learned to read.[10] His godfather, Jovan Drenovac, was a captain in the army protecting the Military Frontier.
Nikola was one of five children, having one brother (Dane, who was killed in a horse-riding accident when Nikola was five) and three sisters (Milka, Angelina and Marica).[11]:3 His family moved to Gospić in 1862. Tesla went to school in Karlovac. He finished a four year term in the span of three years.[12]
