Well, I can't speak for every IDF soldier and every unit, but at least my experience as a former soldier is different. We were always instructed to treat the local Palestinian population with dignity. Of course, some of us weren't so nice in certain situations, but it was not the policy. I really don't think it is about racism. It is a very complex political and practical problem and it is your character as a human being that will determine how you act in these situations.

I am quite surprised, but glad to hear that the policy during your time as a soldier was "to treat the local Palestinian population with dignity." So, I agree again with you, it is manifestly a matter of character how each soldier deals with this instruction. I mean, putting an M-16 into the hands of 18-year olds must impact their human-ness.

Sure, put a gun in the hands of a young man, give him a job that is complex even for experienced 40 old policemen and almost total authority over other people and in many cases he will do stupid things that he later on won't be proud of and I am refereeing also to myself. Nothing too bad, never hit anyone, but bad enough and definitely against how we are taught to behave.

And no, I don't think Zionizm is racism. It is nationalism, which is bad enough but currently unavoidable.

Yes, absolutely. It's political, i.e. the personal and cultural are being politicized. That's why nationalism becomes THE means for defining oneself - on both sides, in this case. Of course, nationalism is a problem anywhere in the world.

So you are saying that Zionism is not a racist ideology, but driven rather by nationalistic interests. ok. It is also driven by religion. Both incentives are inherently linked to some form of racism, in my opinion. I am an agnostic and free thinker!

I don't know if its really 20$. It might be less and it might be more.

However, you should know that all the aid Israel gets from the USA is for spending on security. That is, israel doesn't really has a choice she has to spend it (or almost all of it) on buying weapons and other military equipment in the USA.

This way the US gains influence on Israel and subsidies its own industry at the same time.
