I was always a Mary Chain man myself but that performance was one of the most f**king wonderful things I've ever seen. It's a tragedy that those guys weren't MASSIVE. And U2 still sell out stadiums.. Criminal.
I remember this song for its guitar driven licks and the hauntingly beautiful vocals but it's the bass run that stands out in this video. A beautiful sound. Thanks for posting this. Too bad THOL didn't stay together longer. I love their music.
Great band but the worst live gig I have ever been to, we didn't even stay for the encore and I think that was the only time I ever left a gig before the end. Loughborough Uni Nov 1989.
@sh0169 They formed in Camberwell in '85... I shared a squat briefly w the bass player Chris. One of their first gigs was in Dicky Dirts (a squatted old jean warehouse-may've been an old cinema in it's day ???) in Camberwell. They had an old generator that was so loud it almost drowned them out. That was a crap gig ; )
saw them on my 18th birthday in Edinburgh, where they blew away the other two bands on the bill... played the like they were eating kilos of speed before (see the video of 'Destry The Heart' from SNUB TV) and the everything was swamped in feedback and weird effects from Terry Bickers guitar.
The House of Love is underrated band of the 80's, but i don't think they match the Smiths. The smiths were consistent with great music like the Beatles to the 60's, Marr and Morrisey are a great rock collaboration. I don't care much for solo Morrisey, but with the Smiths he's the shit!
Ah, takes me back to the Town the Country gig I went to. Awesome band sad they couldn't make the long haul. I think Guy Chadwick still doing stuff though.

Yes Mr Bickers is now teaching music around the london area while still writing and recording and full of musical enthusiasm as always.

Notice how Oasis ripped this off for " Mucky Fingers"

Funny how Bickers gets the attention of the cameras without trying - deserved to be a frontman of a band... no wonder he left in 89!

Fantastic! The greatest English band of the 80s was not the Smiths nor the New Order nor the Felt but the House of Love!

Can't believe how young bickers looked in this....
IvorWilkins 4 years ago
agreed. looks like such an innocent young lad, incapable of conjuring the great effects that he did.

They are playing their first creation LP in full at Koko in London on 13/9/07. This is a great clip, nice guitar effects

Members are, since their new beginning, three founding members (Guy Chadwick, Pete Evans, Terry Bickers) & a new bass player (Matt Jury).

AWESOME!!! The House of Love should be bigger than Blur and Oasis together!!
Do you have more live material of them?

Quality! Reminds me of Blaises, though can't say for certain if I ever heard it there! Must have done
