Wow! I honestly thought for years that the chorus was "Aids, aids,aids,aids We ain't never gonna be respectable" Yes I SERIOUSLY thought the song was about AIDS. For some reason I thought it was a charity song raising awareness and money for aids. Someone most have told me that as a joke. Quite embarassing what with me being 30 and having thought that for about 20 years.

The girls could have been Girls Aloud but to a big risk on this track, the original being both rather good and incredibly controversial and somewhat blacklisted..

As for the soap thing, incidently 1980s corrie actress Lisa Lewis (Shirley Armitage) reputedly has a sister called Shirley. The song is reputedly about the music press being so stuck up and stupid as not to realise the considerable irony of this situation.
