emulation is the greatest form of praise- TTMOE has bowed to His Bobness, but has arisen Sir Kristian. Both are Knights of Honour in the Kingdom of True Music.
@KrischKrosch agreed. Love tallest man, but not the best cover. Music is an open book though so anyone can do anything, just not for my specific taste. Bob's version much better, but then again that is the original so always hard to beat. Reckon if Bob done a version of 'where do my bluebirds fly' it wouldn't touch the original so swings and roundabouts ;O)
The delivery of the song by TTMOE is so different from how Dylan does it, I can't help but feel like they are two different songs almost. Either way, both are great.
i have a raging mouth ulcer, and for the 2:51 seconds this was on i forgot the tremendous pain, then i read all this debatey shit in the comments and BAM, pain is back with a vengance.
great and creative cover instead of just a simple copy but dylan's original is perfection. this cover is damn near close but dylan is simply the master
a cover can never be better than the original, only the person who wrote the lyrics can sing the songs real emotions. Though this is one of my favorite covers and i admire Kristian.
@Umealongboard Ignorant. A cover can be better. Just because I write a song doesn't mean that I will perform it with as much sincerity or passion as someone else will.
with dylan's music being so accessible you have to forgive the lad for trying to go for something different here, one of the best finger pickers/singers in the bizz
I'm so sorry to say.. even despite the fact "the tallest man on earth" is probably my greatest "musical discovery" ..like ..ever.. besides bands like DevotchKa , Local natives , fleet foxes , wolf parade ..etc.
Dylan has been my favorite musician for quite some time now. I only found about
Kristian a couple months ago and he's blown me away since I've started listening to him. This cover is great. He made it his own, which I respect, but it doesn't come close to topping the original for me. The atmosphere of the original is just too wonderful for words. That said, major props to The Tallest Man on Earth.
WHAT THE FUCK! I got so fucking excited to hear him sing a Dylan song so I could really compare the two. I was picturing Kristian singing it like Bob and if he did I think his version would be more powerful sounding. He changed the vocal melody so that he sang all the best parts and like purposely made them boring in his version. I guess out of pure respect he made sure he didnt outshine his idol?
@PrairieDon1021 This was my first time listening to the song. I immediately went to bob dylan's version and found The Tallest Man to be soo much better. I like Dylan but I feel as though idolizing creates bias. Not to say either version is better than the other. I'm personally glad they are so different because one song has now become two. Instead of a another copy.
@NickThatDrummer Yeah - Dylan sings with more longing. I'm extremely glad this version is unique though - changes the tone more than anything else. That's the best thing a cover can do.
Dylan has himself said that some of the covers of his songs were better than the original, like Jimmy Hendrix's All Along the watchtower. That said, Dylans version of this song is worlds better than this one.
@lmarquis4 no im know that is just his voice, im just saying when ppl just imitate another person's voice to do a cover of them it isn't being an artist at all, it's just imitation
@Thor24x I think everyones misunderstanding what i meant. i completely agree with putting your own spin on a cover, there is no point of even it if you are just going to imitate it. (check out my Daniel Johnston cover on my page if you wanna see what i mean). Im a banjo player so i loved him playing that, i think i was just excited to hear him sing the chorus inparticular and was let down when it wasnt belted out as i hoped it would be.
@cumulus0007 no he was saying how this version isn't just like the bob dylan version and i said if it was just like it he wouldn't be an artist really, he totally is, genius
@howdygoodsir I think everyones misunderstanding what i meant. i completely agree with putting your own spin on a cover, there is no point of even it if you are just going to imitate it. @ZaxDavis
Capo 4 C - Em - Am - G
"the cracked out bells" part F - G - Am - G
"I want you part" = C - Em - Am - G
They're the same chords as the original. Just in a different key.
