Your pictures should remain as .jpg, or .gif files. the .php or .html are your actual pages. Hope this makes sense.

You should be able to right-click when you are in the folder and click on show hidden files. You should be able to upload them now. Hope this helps.

Hi Christine.

I am a beginner and my question is why do I need FTP? I was able to upload my mid-prepared site using Control Panel on my host and uploading the pages and their additional files (.gif for example).

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. A way to transfer files over the Internet. Filezilla is simply one method. If you found another way to upload your files, then you do not require Filezilla. Hope this makes sense.

i bought a domain and hosting account from GoDaddy, and i was easily able to connect. I then transferred over the web page i made using NVU, and it, too transferred. But now what? my website is still blank, what do i do from here?

Because you used NVU your main webpage that is transferred over should be named index.htm or index.html. If it's not just go back into FileZilla and right click on your main page and rename. Make sure you moved the images onto the server as well.

Sorry for the delay. I use an HTML editor to create my websites and then use FileZilla to upload them to the Internet. I recommend NVU as it is a free HTML editor for anyone new getting started. Or you can use Weebly to create your websites and they are already online so you are not required to FTP. (You can do a search on my channel for Weebly and NVU to get a better understanding.)

Sorry for the delay... I was in Vegas for the week.

In order to host a website you will require a hosting account with an ISP like GoDaddy. GoDaddy or whoever will provide you with an FTP user name and password to access your webserver.

Host = your domain name

Username = your ISP (Godaddy) ftp username

Password = your ISP (Godaddy) ftp password

Port = Just leave blank and connect.

I am a little baffled as to where your files went??? Did you notice the files moving in the status bar? Were you in your demo folder or another folder. I would recommend watching the video one more time. There has got to be one small step that you have missed.

What is the exact error?

You must have something wrong. Recheck your userid and password. This should be your webhosting userid and password. Check the spelling of your domain name too.

I have not gotten serious into hosting a forum yet so I am not 100% sure but here is what I think.

I know that you don't have to FTP your content to be viewed in a Forum. You are usually provided with a template. In this template you add your content by typing it in or copying and pasting from another site.

This is your web hosting user id and password. If you still don't know it, I would contact your provider.

thanks for the kudos! yes, ftp is only for uploading or downloading files (it's stands for file transfer program). if you need to make changes in the future simply go back to your HTML editing software, edit your webpage and then you will need to ftp your newly modified site back up to the internet using FileZilla.
