@mukraf Well, technically no. There are a few discrepancies with your argument - I play the mellphone and in fact it began as a very similar instrument to the french horn - as a sitting down, curved horn. The modern mello is indeed used mainly for marching, but it really is a common misconception that the mellophone was created as a "marching french horn". As UltimateLink said, there is in fact a difference between a mellophone and a marching french horn.
@sifilms Your right. A "marching french horn" is NOT the purpose of the Mellophone. In fact, go and search music dealers and you might find a Marching French Horn. But the mellophone is very similar, and also cheaper.
Alright damnit you guys, you guys have to be retarded not to know the difference between a mellophone, a marching french horn, and a french horn. The mellophone, which is typically in the key of F, is regarded as the marching counter-part of the french-horn even though the marching french horn exists. A french horn (my god you have to be retarded no to know the difference) looks nothing like a mellophone. If anything, I would say the mellophone is closer to the trumpet except for the tone
@mukraf well you are correct i play mello and frenchhorn but honestly it all depends on the type of marching french horn. because our marching french horn is nothing that different from a mello except the mouthpiece. for us its in the key of g. so not calling you a liar this is just my band i would like to see one of these marching french horns if you know any vid that has one i would like to see that
Why the fuck does everyone have to play the mario song on their instrument and post it on youtube? That song sucks, and every time someone posts themselves playing mario, everyone is all like, "0MG!!!!! YOU CAN PLAY MARIO!!! YOU ARE SOOOO AMAZING!!!!"
@horselover96legend Yes but the notes sound lower. For example, if you see an D on the 4th line you play it with first valve but it will sound like a trumpets A on the second space.
@tatormellow If you are referring to a mellophone vs. french horn the french horn is heavier, I promise, I play both. If you don't believe me find a standard double horn and a mellophone and then weigh them.
@thebrownchevy A marching horn is a marching horn, a mellophone is an entirely different instrument with no relations to the horn.(horn=the correct term for the french horn)
this a melophone melo. use a trumpet mouth peice they sound like a trupmt and horn mixed a melo.uses the same trumpet fingering so i havent ever heard of a melophone useing a horn mouth piece
@daymo93 its christmas u dont have to go aound callin people nasty words it aint bad to be wrong i play horn and i m 13 so iwas tokld there was only a trumpet mouthpeice melophone by my band director
@daymo93- It's not a specific mellophone that uses a french horn mouthpiece, it's just the adapter that you use to fit a french horn mouthpiece into it which any mellophone is able to carry an adapter.
I play french horn so if I play in a marching band i would play this ofcourse XD but honsetly I hate melaphone for some reason which is weird even though I love horn
u kiddin? i love mai mellophone!, except this is a yamaha mello in the vid, i play a king mello, either way, mellophone is a LOT easier to play than the horn
check and make sure your valves are in the right direction. The number on each pistion should be towards the mouthpiece. and make sure the right piston is in the right spot. 1 is closest to mouthpiece 3 is closest to bell. You never kno, doesnt hurt to check. =P
My fellow French Hornian and I didn't want to march with a french horn (and the Marching french horns were SHIT!!! Put together with tape litteraly!) so we learned the mellophone. It was easy for us, but then again... We could use our mouth peices we used for the french horn.
no it isn't, it is used as one, but the real marching horn has a longer bell (look one up). I personally think Mellophones sound better than a marching french horn and that Mellos should the the marching french horn not the actuall marching f horn. We got lucky, our mellos were very nice (thats cuz they weren't our schools :] )
yeah theres an f horn(flugal horn) and then theres a mell. a mell sounds more like a french horn(if u use th french horn mouth peice) then th flugal horn
Oh yea well I can play F horn/Mello/Trumpet (lolz it's like Frankenstein) piano, guitar (acoustic and electric), ukulele, drumset (marching snare sometimes) AND im gonna learn alto and violin from my friend haha
Some people say I sing well but i think im jus ok
Mello is EXACTLY the same as trumpet just in a different key. so yea, if you know how to transpose, you can find the trumpet version and change it into F. or just play it in the wrong key. ^_^
haha. thats what i am currently trying to do. my director wants me to play mello for marching band next season but im having a ton of trouble so far just trying to learn to buzz on a mouthpiece
The mellophone (mello to marchers) is the combination of the horn and trumpet, yes. It's used in place of the horn in marching bands. However, unlike the concert counterpart, the mello is pitched in Eb, not F, yet it still reads F horn parts (fingerings are the same as trumpet).
Great playing, and *nice* instrument! Sounds even better than the King I used in HS, which had a nice, large bore but not quite as large as this one. I used a "real" French-horn mouthpiece with an adapter --- would *love* to try that combination with this instrument.
