Marilyn was the one, the only ONE of a kind. Sad about Dorothy remember the day it happened the seeing the paper with the headline of her death. RIP Dorothy.
@AngelicLove21 ...only I guess from a Canadian perspective. Likely the closet thing we had to Marilyn or reminded many of her (particularly out in Vancouver), at least at the time she was alive. My own opinion, if she had lived, would have become nearly as legendary. Maybe some of us simply hoped she'd be the next Marilyn.
@parcolympique Dorothy was very beautiful, feminine, and had a glowing quality about her. I suppose that's what you mean when you say Dorothy reminded you of Marilyn?
Anyhow, it is a great pity that her life ended in tragedy. She certainly didn't deserve it, nobody would.
@AngelicLove21 Yes, there was a very incredible buzz about this woman. And the time, really I don't believe anyone other than Marylin could have generated such a similar buzz, maybe why someone might compare like myself. I believe Dorothy basically was on the verge of becoming a superstar, when her life was taken from her. Anyway, we will never know for certain.
@AngelicLove21 No, but some blond hair coloring or blond wigs would help the public make that association easier. ^_^ I don't believe Marylin herself was a true blond if I remember right. I think the next Marylin would have to generate the same level excitement that people had for the original MM 1st & foremost (or at least come close).
@AngelicLove21 Also, if I were to take an American point of view (& I can) ...I'd say there could never be another Marilyn Monroe. A Canadian view of Dorothy, she could have been Canada's Marilyn. Sure Pamela Anderson was huge come the 90s, but that was a different buzz altogether, really plastic, LOL.
@parcolympique not for her acting ability, that's for sure. And if I remember correctly, the same thing was said about Anna nicole smith when she was playmate of the year. And she turned out to be a huge embarrassment.
@AngelicLove21 no, no one deserves to die the way she did, but she was on the verge of dumping the man who helped her get to the top, once she was at the top, that is. That doesn't sound like something a nice person would do.
@AngelicLove21 oh no, of course not...but, it does say something about the kind of person she was. It bugs me when I hear people talk about these celebrities that died young about how pure and nice and lovely and saint-like they were - oh, yeah, and how they were sure to become a superstar if only....
@Bhav341 I get your point. Movie stars aren't "saint-like," I don't think most people are (regardless if they're in show business or not). It's just that sacrifices were made...
Poor Dorothy RIP. If I were her at the time, though, I would've fucked the shit out of John Ritter.

Dorothy Stratten was Canada's Marilyn Monroe. She would have turned 50 today, on this closing of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.

@Bhav341 I agree, it wasn't nice. But it still doesn't justify that she lost her life to it.

@AngelicLove21 Believe it or not, Dorothy was a very kind and sweet soul by all accounts (which is a rarity in Hollywood)
KellyGreen5555 8 months ago
@KellyGreen5555 I do believe so. Have you known her personally?
AngelicLove21 8 months ago
@Bhav341 Dorothy (at the age of 18) was hustled by a low life named Paul Snider.
She married the creep because she was very sweet and naive. Dumping this loser was a step in the right direction...and it cost her her life.
