All of the ninja gaiden NES games is the same boring side-scrolling game play jumping from platform to platform hitting things with some tiny sword as opposed to this game where there's actual fighting going on.

The arcade version is a mediocre run of the mill side scrolling beat-em-up with generic enemies. The NES game, while similar to castlevania, had pretty original and fluid gameplay for its time and definitely gave an impressive theatrical experience for something on such primitive hardware.

This was a pretty cool game back in the day. Just needed more moves (such as a jump kick, spin kick etc.) and be able to use more weapons. I like how they had the Road Warriors as bosses in one of the stages. My friend and I spent many quarters on this game at the arcade. The arcade version was best, the home version and sequels sucked.

The only way to play this version of the game is on MAME (Arcade emulator) well maybe MESS or some other emu but this was only an arcade game the Genesis version is closer then the NES version but its still so very different :(

Arcade version was the best, but the NES version was also great (just should have been named something else)

Anyway if you decide to download MAME get ready for a massive rom download the complete rom set with out CHD's (hard drive based games) is like 20GB's

Hey I'm from Brooklyn and played this as a kid too!.I played this a lot recently on Mame..My fav beat'em up.I got so good that I can beat the game on one credit(start out with 2 life w/ 3 bars).These 3 douches are the hardest in the game.The last "jewish" boss is cake if you know what to do.Disappointing last boss and ending.Would be cool if you actually fought Nostradomus lol.Great game tho!!
