@XXpacratXX Yeah he "wasn't down" - that's why Dyer HIMSELF (and the Oregon players) stopped running. In fact, it wasn't until the Auburn coaches yelled, "keep going!" that he took off again.
Here's a clue, players who DON'T think they're down keep running, while those who feel their lower-leg touch the ground STOP.
I just wanna say something, with all due respect, why would you think the sweat band around his shin is red?? It's an auburn player, the sweat band is orange. We dont wear anything red except for the american flag on the back of the helmet and anything with a riddell label showing. well and that night the bcs patch and sticker on the shoulder and helmet. I'm guessing you think Smurfs are green lol
@leebaseball11 Are you calling yourself a MORON? Because anyone who knows anything about football knows that EVERY reviewed play is, by definition, a CLOSE CALL.
And I suppose Dyer HIMSELF stopped running because he knew he WASN'T tackled? It was reviewed on the field... and explained clearly in the video where his ankle/shin touches the ground. But just like the reviewed interception by Harris (that went in favor of Auburn)... this one never stood a chance of being overturned by the refs.
@daoriginalaidaman Blocking? The idiot Auburn player ran into the BACK of the umpire (who's got his eyes on the offensive/defensive linemen) - and flopped like a soccer player (while the umpire kept his feet). Players (both offense and defense) are taught to avoid the umpire from Pop Warner on up. If Zac Etheridge can't see the official's ASS he's RUNNING TOWARD, then he deserves to get embarrassed like that time and again.
Oregon was putting a beating on Cam Newton. All year Cam was going up against SEC defenses and I'm sure that not one time did he get up in pain. But in this one against Oregon dude was a bit shaken up as he was getting back to his feet. Makes me wonder if SEC defenes was going easy on him since everybody think he the "Golden Child". One analyst said Cam be putting on an act and that he's self centered. He always putting on that smile for the camera wanting to be in the spotlight.
Didn't know that....You do have Mallard blood in you. You're on my prayer list:)
Chips a great coach...I love his style....no knocks on him...but we don;t have the cash baby. Money buy whores, cars, homes, blow and NC brother... you'll get another shot...I just hope it's not in my lifetime. Beavers will always be 2nd fiddle....that's a fact...and slightly jealous.....but until OSU can buy Oregon type facilites, players, officials, pimps etc....we'll just have to route against. Love you A
Not saying it's wrong to have a rich owner...Phil is a very giving man and yes....he's donated to Beaver Athletics more than most people know. Donor or Owner? I'm saying "just win" Oregon fan LOVES to point out why it's not OUR fault.....why we were cheated....it SOOOOOO old. do better...be better (withn the rules) and they'll have their day..but I'll be always routing against them.
Yes it is Sr. Arch :) .....for a man that went to school at OSU....I have a hard time viewing / reading this material coming from a Grad. I know...you're from Springfield but where's the alliance? Thanks for posting and creating controversy / more excuses for Oregon fan to cry over. "National Champs" is something I hope to never see / read next to O athletics. Maybe Track...they're really good at that.
@pjschreck Huh? My "greatest hits" at Oregon State include getting run over by a car, and completing five trimesters there. I then transferred to Oregon (where they denied half of my OSU credits) and got my degree three years later.
By the way, you can hope that Oregon will never win a NC in football, but one thing is clear. Chip Kelly has done more in his two years (10-3 and 12-1) than Mike Riley has done in his 10 years (four or more losses in EVERY YEAR) at OSU.
Details.......Typical Oregon fan...Born on 3rd base and calling it a stand up triple. Just be better O. You're excuses get better and better each year....don’t put yourself in these situations and maybe you'll actually earn a bowl win. Phil will buy your National title soon enough...unless you get caught cheating. War Eagle and War that Oregon never sees another Championship game.
@pjschreck Awww Ha Pat! I missed that it was you the 1st time?!
And you should know that Oregon wasn't on "3rd base" when they battled the Beavers in the 80's. And no one should apologize for having a rich donor... just as OSU doesn't for their "Potato Salad" Donald Trump. As it turns out though, athletic gear is more profitable than potatoes and mayonnaise.
BTW, doesn't "Phil" subsidize your Pat Casey's salary to the tune of one-million a year? I guess he's "evil" on a case-by-case basis?
I've watched this game several times and Cam actually had a pretty good game. Auburn didn't have many scoring drives but they had several sustained drives because Cam made plays and that (time of possession) hurt Oregon more than any missed call. Especially in the 2nd half. I think everyone agrees the layoff hurt both teams and the offense was rusty. Defense wins another championship. BTW I think that grass was grown in Oregon?
@MikeSluggo I'd agree that time-of-possession was huge. That's why I made a video called "Oregon vs. Auburn: Delay of Game?"
Auburn got an extra five minutes on a possession where a blatant delay of game wasn't called. Ironically, just one possession earlier, Oregon was called for "delay" while snapping the ball with time still left on the play clock.
As for the grass, where it was grown wasn't the problem - it was the fact that it was over-watered and slick as hell come game time.
Had that been incorrectly ruled a fumble in the 1st quarter and if ORE scored, Cam would've gotten his act together like he did so many other times and started completing those throws he normally completed and running like normal and it'd been 35 to 7 by the end of the game. Careful what you wish for.
Bitter? Let's see. At the beginning of the video you show a play from the final minute of the game and lament the ref's were letting plays go before calling a play dead then show a play from the 1st quarter and insinuate the ref's ruined Oregon's chances to win and were inconsistent. That's clever but not really good. Forward progress was called and Cam was therefore down, not reviewable.
@ATLMD88 I used BOTH plays to show how the refs were letting one play continue, and yet blowing the other dead very quickly. Dyer's play continued, even though he HIMSELF thought he was down - meanwhile Cam Newton had his throwing hand free and was trying to make a play when he was being tackled.
Newton escaped tackles and made passes with defenders draped all over him during the 2010 season - it's just funny that the refs decided he was down where he was touched on this particular play?
Being an Auburn fan it hurts me to say this, but these are 2 missed calls and could have easily cost us the game. Oregon outplayed us, but we just pulled a rabbit out of the hat and won. Congrats to Auburn and sorry to Oregon. However a game is a game, and blown calls sometimes play a part in major plays, it's just part of football.
Oregon didn't play a good game. Plain and simple. If Oregon plays their best ball against Auburns best Oregon wins. UNFORTUNATELY with Oregon they do not play well under Kelly in bowl games. But mark my words.....Oregon will win the national championship next year. The best player in the country currently resides in Eugene and unless we have another freak of nature (Cam Newton) he will win the Heisman. Go Ducks!!!!!
You can't clearly be the best team on the field if you win by a last second field goal. Newton had a bad game because he faced the best team Auburn played all season. And he clearly fumbled. Fuck auburn
mcneilstokes you are a genuine jackass. Im not even an oregon fan and that was clearly a fumble. Newton had the worst game of the year because he faced the best team he had all season long. And, a team isn't clearly the best if they win on a last second field goal after a freak play like the one with Dyer. You have no clue what your talking about. Stay in Alabama with the rest of the nation's morons.
I'm not even a duck fan and that was clearly a fumble. Cam had his worst game of the season because he played the best team he has faced all year. Mcneilstokes, a team isn't clearly the better team if they win on the last play of the game after a freak play like that with dyer. Pull your head out.
Auburn had to rely on a down year from the sec, paying cam to play for them and blown calls to win it this year, have fun being 5-7 next year auburn bye bye!!!
Great breakdown ruliarch. We got FUCKED. Cliff should have had the INT and the Newton play WAS a fumble. However, the Dyer call I can get. He was so close to being down or not down that it makes for a tough call. But the Ducks had numerous chances to win: firstly they could have kept playing on the Dyer run til the whistle blew (like your told from Pop-Warner on) and the field goals we could have settled for, some shotty play calling during the game, and DT's early bonehead mistakes...
Calls like this are made every game, and referees have lapses of judgement. The national spotlight sure did make these plays very controversial, though.
okay, i never noticed that fumble before...i mean, i'm glad auburn won, but oregon deserved to win, that's for sure...that "sack" on cam newton was definetely a fumble! @AllstarHD , now you're just going to far...auburn is not a bunch of thugs
u just did some clever editing and kept pausing it where u claimed that was where the ball came out, i mean it may have been a fumble idk it was really to close to call. but honestly quit trying to make excuses, Auburn was clearly the best team on the field and to be honest, that was cams worst game all year. he uncharacteristicly missed three touchdown passes and wasnt running full speed, probably do to his back injury he had gotten earlier in the game. just be thankful it was not a blowout
@mcneillstokes I love that all season, when Auburn injured QB's and affected their throwing (does the Clemson game ring a bell) then credit went to the Auburn defense. But when Cam can't run (or throw) as well, it's "uncharacteristic" of him?! Ha!
This game wasn't a blowout, because the Oregon defense did a great job on Newton all game long. He was inaccurate with his passes because the Oregon defenders were getting to him.
I'll never get over Oregon leaving Fairley unblocked though...
@ruliarch To be honest with you..everything in this video I just watched kinda makes sense. If they had called the fumble (like they should have) I get the feeling oregon would have won..including the micheal dyer part..I think their defense shut down cam newton better than alabama did, and they have an amazing quarterback too. did you see how fast he was? Well, I hope Darron Thomas and LaMichael james play again next year. I wanna see them go for it again. GO DUCKS!
@ruliarch you're right if these plays were called the right way..oregon would have won. specially the fumble part lol. oregon was better no doubt about it. the ref missed all those plays and oregon still forced auburn to kick a field goal for the win. heh..(22-19. score would have been different if they called the right way) i hope Darron Thomas and lamichael pla again next year. Darron Thomas rules! hes so fast! GO DUCKS
@ruliarch I know, Fairley really kicked some ass out there. BTW, yes dude, It wasn't Oregon's defense, it was one of the most liquid defenses Auburn played all year, but Cam just wasn't capitalizing.
@ManikMan3 Ha! Auburn averaged just 6.1 yards-per-play against the Ducks... and only Alabama held them to less per-play all season long. And even though the Ducks gave 85 plays to the Tigers (fast-paced offenses on BOTH sides), they still only scored 22 points?!
Face it, Cam "wasn't capitalizing" because Oregon's defense applied pressure on him, and forced him to rush his throws. That's why he missed a wide open RB in the end zone on a short pass.
@des696969 Ha! Sorry, it's the players responsibility to avoid the referee. Oregon's receiver could have just as easily ran into him, but he was smart enough to RUN AROUND him. Brains?! This video is about how a "call" (something that a player, coach, or fan can't affect) can be applied two different ways in the same game. The funny part? Is that either way it was applied... it was ADVANTAGE AUBURN.
@ruliarch it was not advantage auburn. you just manipulated these videos to make it seem that way to justify oregon's loss. get you panties out of a wad, get over your hangover that is two months overdue, because no matter how much you whine and complain, that trophy will never be yours
@WarEagleAuburn89 Not sure how I "manipulated" actual video of the game. No special effects - just advantage Auburn in BOTH.
And it would seem your "panties are in a wad" more than mine. I made this video four days after the game, and only come back here to reply to idiotic comments like yours.
But I sure hope when my team wins the NC - I'll enjoy it rather than trolling opposition videos. But something tells me if you really thought Auburn earned it on the field, you wouldn't be here, huh?
you have a valid point here, but you cant blame an entire game on 1 wrong fumble call, the refs messed up auburn also when he threw a critical block on the auburn defender.
@johnnyenchilada The ironic part? I was actually the first person to post a video showing the Oklahoma player coming out of the pile during that onside kick fiasco. That game has never felt like a "win" - and I was actually pleased to hear that the replay official in that game retired shortly afterward.
It doesn't change what happened in this game though.
@ruliarch I agree, I was at the Oklahoma game and still don't consider it a true win. I wish the game was called correctly so we wouldn't have to listen to Sooner fans still complaining @ Duck fans, like we could do anything to change it.
These 2 videos are great for pointing out a couple key mistakes that truly cost the Ducks time, field position and TOs in a very important game!
@johnnyenchilada Oklahoma??? Really? I seem to remember a certain game in 2004 where your team didn't even show up to play USC. 55-19 ring a bell??? Robbed my ass. Lucky they even stayed close in that game. At least 2 dropped passes for touchdowns. Should have won by 14 or even 17 pts...WAR EAGLE! Haters!
Whiny little bitches. Can't win or lose with class. It's all about complaining. Be happy you're #3 in the nation and finished 12-1. Jesus christ you're all a bunch of spoiled bitches who feel entitled to EVERYTHING. And it wouldn't have been a fumble by Newton, it'd have been incomplete.
Game is over if the ref doesn't tackle the Auburn safety on your 4th and 5 play that set up your game tying touchdown.
All the money in the world still can't buy you a NC. $300M, seriously???
@riceman2001 Ah whatever, if Auburn would've won all the Auburn fans would be bitching just as much if not even more. Big games are always followed by blaming the referees and discussing "what if" situations.
@lasoogneypubes - 1st off, nice name are you 12? Also I do agree the "what if's" and what not are discussed around the water cooler and amongst friends. People just don't spend hours at a time piecing together a youtube video to prove their point like you did.
Oregon fans are fair weathered, half have no connection to the university, and all are spoiled brats. Plain and simple. Ask ANY Pac-10 fan base, not just OSU fans.
@riceman2001 I am part of the PAC-10 fan base lo and all I gotta say to you is that people are people wherever you go. You've most likely been talking to hardcore fans only, and you're never going to get any good conversation out of a hardcore fan. Nobody around me is bitching and whining about the results and most people I know are Duck fans. Are you from Oregon??? Also are you saying that I made this video?? 'Cause I didn't. Re-read the first part of your comment if you're confused.
Meaning of the Terms: Catch, Interception, Recovery ARTICLE 7. A catch is an act of firmly establishing player possession of a live ball in flight.
a. A catch of an opponent’s fumble or pass is an interception.
b. Securing player possession of a live ball after it strikes the ground is “recovering it.’’
c. To catch, intercept or recover a ball, a player who leaves his feet to make a catch, interception or recovery must have the ball firmly in his possession when he first returns
@RigorousEchoes (cont.) to the ground inbounds with any part of his body
1. If one foot first lands inbounds and the receiver has possession
and control of the ball, it is a catch or interception even though a
subsequent step or fall takes the receiver out of bounds.
(even if a subsequent step takes him oob....this means as long as he doesn't LOSE or experience LOSS of the ball after going oob, it is an interception.)I hope this is helpful
The call on the field was "oob" the ruling was challenged...the officials then changed rulling from an oob issue to a possession issue. The reciever has possession with both hands and one foot on the ground, the reciever then repositions ball to left hand after collision with opponent, then for a second time, this time with his right hand, restablishes "in bounds". Since the reciever never LOSES ball, ball never makes ground contact. It should have been an interception.
@noglory19 They don't have to be "perfect"... just be equally "imperfect" towards BOTH teams. Again, no one has shown me a referee's call that went AGAINST Auburn.
"The Dyer run was as close as the "interception""? Bwahahahahahahahhahahaha. You lose all credibility with that assertion. No way on earth that is an interception when he clearly bobbled it going out of bounds. The Dyer run was far more open for debate.
@Quazaar51 Again, try reading the rules... why is that so hard?!
Harris only had to show possession with foot or hand down (which he did with BOTH).
The rule reads like this:
"If one foot first lands inbounds and the receiver has possession and control of the ball, it is a catch or interception even though the subsequent step or fall takes the receiver out of bounds."
Did he ground (out of bounds) cause him to bobble the ball? Under the actual RULES... It doesn't matter.
@ruliarch Hahahahahahaha. Are you serious????? The one foot down has to be a balanced step. If the player is stumbling or falling down, then they have to maintain possession throughout. A player could hypothetically take 5 or 6 steps while stumbling. If they hit the ground and lose possession of the ball then IT'S NOT A CATCH. This applies to BOTH the NFL and College. It comes up all the time. Most recently Calvin Johnson Lions vs Bears. How do you not know this? NCAA RULE 7-3-6 XI - XIV
@Quazaar51 What?! You need a "balanced step" down?! A catch has EVERYTHING to do with the BALL... not a "balanced step". That's why the rule gives a provision for having a HAND DOWN you moron - or do you need a "balanced hand" too?
Harris showed possession with his foot (while first catching the ball) and with his right hand (while holding the ball in his left) and although it moved upon his elbow hitting the ground... he never lost possession of the ball.
@ruliarch NCAA Rule 7-3-6 XIII. Airborne receiver A85 possesses the ball and in the process of coming to the ground, first contacts the ground with his left foot inbounds as he falls to the ground out of bounds. Immediately upon hitting the ground out of bounds, the ball pops loose, and A85 catches it before it hits the ground. Ruling: Incomplete pass regardless of whether or not the ball hits the
ground because the receiver is out of bounds when the ball is possessed. Haha. You Lose!
@Quazaar51 That rule talks about one foot down and then falling out of bounds. However, Harris got a left foot down, and his right hand down (with the ball secured) before going out of bounds. Plus, your ruling talks about the ball popping LOOSE from the receiver, which never happened.
Was it a close call? Sure. But no closer than Dyer's ankle and shin hitting the ground - which was the point to begin with.

@ruliarch We agree to dissagree then. The ball may not have popped out of his hands, but it moved enough to where possession is never granted in that case. I doubt you could provide one video example with similar movement that was ruled as a catch. I'm fine with the delay of game argument. I can see the Cam Newton fumble argument. But no way on earth had any other similar play to Cliff Harris' play ever been ruled a completion or interception.
@wadesworld2112 Or... you COULD say Auburn had extra chances (thanks to the refs) to put the game away and still only won on a last-second field goal.
Call me when Auburn gets:
- a fumble return for a TD taken away (via refs)
- an extra-second (past :00) on the play clock to make a critical 3rd and 12 (via refs)
- an interception taken away (via refs) on a play PRIOR to a Auburn TD pass.
Did officiating "cost" Oregon the game? Maybe not... but calls like these went Auburn's way all game.
@wadesworld2112 Learn your rules pal. Instant replay can only overturn the "call on the field" - not make a new determination altogether. And the refs call wasn't that it was an incomplete pass (which would have made it 4th and 5)... it was that the ball was in Newton's hand when he was "down".
I'd say 3rd and 17 is a pretty tough "get"... but we'll never know now, will we?
I'd say the interception was about as close as the Dyer "down" call, which the refs "magically" allowed.
Out of the three calls you cite, only the newton "fumble" is even debatable. The TV clock isn't synced up with the on the field clock. On the INT, he has to maintain control, that's commonplace.
The refs missed quite a few holding calls against Oregon, but Auburn hasn't been getting holding calls all year.
Again, Auburn's lines won the game. Look at the running yards. You have two running teams, one ran for 250+ and the other under 80, who do you think is going to win?
@bearbryantisdead Thank you... my point exactly. Auburn only won by three points, and the refs screwed Oregon out of a fumble recovery for a TD. If the refs treat the Cam Newton fumble the same way they did the Michael Dyer run... Oregon wins. Thanks for understanding.
@ruliarch And the fact that the exact same run by Dyer in the closing minutes of the game gave Auburn a HUGE advantage that was called DOWN in the Sugar Bowl. Fucking bullshit.
What do you expect from BIG 10 officiating? Did you see the Music City Bowl? Anyone who is a fan of the Big 10 should be EMBARRASSED that "their" officials blew TWO games during bowl season. PATHETIC. Other than Ohio State beating an over rated Arkansas team, YOU SUCKED!!!
Personally, I'd call incomplete pass as the arm is coming forward in a throwing motion. However, intentional grounding could then be argued. I think the ref judged Cam Newton as being in the grasp and thus the play is stopped. A sack is a better call than an incomplete pass as far as Oregon is concerned. Oregon blew it by trying to be too cute, throwing 2 INTs, giving up a safety, and falling to score on 4th down. Can't blame that on the refs.
@Quazaar51 An "incomplete pass"? Newton would have had to throw the ball - which he didn't. It was knocked out of his hand against the defender. Cam was trying to make a play, and had he completed a pass there... it would have counted - as whistles only blew AFTER he was down. Also, Oregon threw one INT on a tipped ball, and the other due to pressure. Newton threw his pick DIRECTLY to an Oregon defender and had another that was "bobbled" but caught. And BOTH teams were stopped on 4th down.
@ruliarch Ummm...IF THE ARM IS GOING FORWARD then it's an INCOMPLETE PASS. That's the way the rule is interpreted. It doesn't matter if the QB's arm hits a defender creating the ball to be dislodged from the QB's hand. It still count's as an incomplete pass. This is common knowledge if you actually know the game of football. After watching Auburn beat Oregon I realize that 2010 was a rather weak year in football. 2010 Auburn (or Oregon) wouldn't be champs in 9 of the last 10 years.
@Quazaar51 The ref had every opportunity to call that an incomplete forward pass, and he didn't. Why? Because Newton swung his arm around and DIDN'T RELEASE the ball. It was only when he tried to bring the ball back into his body that he fumbled it. As for it being a "weak year"... I think you'll see more and more rusty teams now that these NC games are played TEN DAYS after New Years.
@ruliarch Ever hear of the Tuck Rule. Even if the QB is attempting to tuck the ball, the arm was moving forward and thus it's an incomplete pass if knocked out. Moot point.
Since the ref blew the play dead clearly before Newton was down (as your video shows), in the grasp must have been the call by the ref. Therefore, it can't be reviewed. Newton was clearly going backwards and completely wrapped up. If Oregon wanted a fumble, then they should have made him fumble on first contact.
@Quazaar51 #1. The "tuck rule" is an NFL only thing... no NCAA application.
#2. The "in the grasp" rule was NFL only too... but hasn't existed (in a one-on-one tackle) for 10+ years.
#3. If the ref did blow the whistle even EARLIER IN THIS PLAY, then shame on him TWICE. Dyer's progress was stopped, and yet that play continued without a whistle.
If Newton was declared "down" every time a defender grabbed him this season and he moved backwards... he'd have lost HALF his yards on the season.
@ruliarch I call bull crap on this "The "in the grasp" rule was NFL only too... but hasn't existed (in a one-on-one tackle) for 10+ years." I've seen one-on-one tackles get called in the grasp in college football. The only thing the refs should have done is address the crowd on this play if they didn't want to review it. It was a 1st Quarter play and did not dictate the outcome of the game. Phil Knight should have just bribed the big 10 officials like he does the PAC 10 officials.
@ragebeam2 Ah ha! A "dominant" Auburn DL gives the Tigers just a last-second FG for the win? So where were the Tigers LESS THAN DOMINANT?!
Oregon had two sacks of Cam Newton... just like Auburn had on Thomas.
Oregon had a successful goal line stand... just like Auburn did.
And except for Auburn's final drive... they had MORE total yards than the Tigers. Face facts: Auburn needed every advantage they could get to win by the skin of their teeth... and the refs provided it for them nicely.
Didn't say Auburn was dominant as a whole. Newton had his worst game of the season. He missed a few short and long TD passes that he was hitting every time before the layoff. I counted 4 or 5 missed TD chances total.
On top of that, Oregon's "goal line stand" was more of a screwup on Auburn's part, as the pass was a little off and dropped.
Oregon is a running team, Auburn negated that. The difference was Auburn's DL.
the first play you showed Dyer was not the red line was not touching the ground.
I can admit that it was close but it did not touch the ground so your theory can lick a pile of crap...
P.S. go jump in an oven

@XXpacratXX Yeah he "wasn't down" - that's why Dyer HIMSELF (and the Oregon players) stopped running. In fact, it wasn't until the Auburn coaches yelled, "keep going!" that he took off again.

I guess he's "evil" on a case-by-case basis?
ruliarch 1 year ago
I've watched this game several times and Cam actually had a pretty good game. Auburn didn't have many scoring drives but they had several sustained drives because Cam made plays and that (time of possession) hurt Oregon more than any missed call. Especially in the 2nd half. I think everyone agrees the layoff hurt both teams and the offense was rusty. Defense wins another championship. BTW I think that grass was grown in Oregon?
MikeSluggo 1 year ago
@MikeSluggo I'd agree that time-of-possession was huge. That's why I made a video called "Oregon vs. Auburn: Delay of Game?"
Auburn got an extra five minutes on a possession where a blatant delay of game wasn't called. Ironically, just one possession earlier, Oregon was called for "delay" while snapping the ball with time still left on the play clock.
As for the grass, where it was grown wasn't the problem - it was the fact that it was over-watered and slick as hell come game time.
ruliarch 1 year ago
Had that been incorrectly ruled a fumble in the 1st quarter and if ORE scored, Cam would've gotten his act together like he did so many other times and started completing those throws he normally completed and running like normal and it'd been 35 to 7 by the end of the game. Careful what you wish for.
ATLMD88 1 year ago
Bitter?
ATLMD88 1 year ago
@ATLMD88 I used BOTH plays to show how the refs were letting one play continue, and yet blowing the other dead very quickly. Dyer's play continued, even though he HIMSELF thought he was down - meanwhile Cam Newton had his throwing hand free and was trying to make a play when he was being tackled.
Newton escaped tackles and made passes with defenders draped all over him during the 2010 season - it's just funny that the refs decided he was down where he was touched on this particular play?
ruliarch 1 year ago
Being an Auburn fan it hurts me to say this, but these are 2 missed calls and could have easily cost us the game. Oregon outplayed us, but we just pulled a rabbit out of the hat and won. Congrats to Auburn and sorry to Oregon. However a game is a game, and blown calls sometimes play a part in major plays, it's just part of football.
BATGbballa333 1 year ago
Oregon didn't play a good game. Plain and simple. If Oregon plays their best ball against Auburns best Oregon wins. UNFORTUNATELY with Oregon they do not play well under Kelly in bowl games. But mark my words.....Oregon will win the national championship next year. The best player in the country currently resides in Eugene and unless we have another freak of nature (Cam Newton) he will win the Heisman. Go Ducks!!!!!

CashSmeller 1 year ago
u just did some clever editing and kept pausing it where u claimed that was where the ball came out, i mean it may have been a fumble idk it was really to close to call. but honestly quit trying to make excuses, Auburn was clearly the best team on the field and to be honest, that was cams worst game all year. he uncharacteristicly missed three touchdown passes and wasnt running full speed, probably do to his back injury he had gotten earlier in the game. just be thankful it was not a blowout
mcneillstokes 1 year ago 4
@mcneillstokes I love that all season, when Auburn injured QB's and affected their throwing (does the Clemson game ring a bell) then credit went to the Auburn defense. But when Cam can't run (or throw) as well, it's "uncharacteristic" of him?! Ha!
This game wasn't a blowout, because the Oregon defense did a great job on Newton all game long. He was inaccurate with his passes because the Oregon defenders were getting to him.
I'll never get over Oregon leaving Fairley unblocked though...
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch To be honest with you..everything in this video I just watched kinda makes sense. If they had called the fumble (like they should have) I get the feeling oregon would have won..including the micheal dyer part..I think their defense shut down cam newton better than alabama did, and they have an amazing quarterback too. did you see how fast he was? Well, I hope Darron Thomas and LaMichael james play again next year. I wanna see them go for it again. GO DUCKS!
SuperKnight3744 1 year ago
@ruliarch you're right if these plays were called the right way..oregon would have won. specially the fumble part lol. oregon was better no doubt about it. the ref missed all those plays and oregon still forced auburn to kick a field goal for the win. heh..(22-19. score would have been different if they called the right way) i hope Darron Thomas and lamichael pla again next year. Darron Thomas rules! hes so fast! GO DUCKS
SuperKnight3744 1 year ago
@ruliarch I know, Fairley really kicked some ass out there. BTW, yes dude, It wasn't Oregon's defense, it was one of the most liquid defenses Auburn played all year, but Cam just wasn't capitalizing.
ManikMan3 1 year ago

Is that either way it was applied... it was ADVANTAGE AUBURN.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch it was not advantage auburn. you just manipulated these videos to make it seem that way to justify oregon's loss. get you panties out of a wad, get over your hangover that is two months overdue, because no matter how much you whine and complain, that trophy will never be yours

RigorousEchoes 1 year ago
@RigorousEchoes (cont.) to the ground inbounds with any part of his body
1. If one foot first lands inbounds and the receiver has possession
and control of the ball, it is a catch or interception even though a
subsequent step or fall takes the receiver out of bounds.
(even if a subsequent step takes him oob....this means as long as he doesn't LOSE or experience LOSS of the ball after going oob, it is an interception.)I hope this is helpful
Victor Winnek
NCAA Football Official
RigorousEchoes 1 year ago
@RigorousEchoes
It should have been an interception.

ruliarch 1 year ago
"The Dyer run was as close as the "interception""? Bwahahahahahahahhahahaha. You lose all credibility with that assertion. No way on earth that is an interception when he clearly bobbled it going out of bounds. The Dyer run was far more open for debate.
Quazaar51 1 year ago
@Quazaar51 Again, try reading the rules... why is that so hard?!
Harris only had to show possession with foot or hand down (which he did with BOTH).
The rule reads like this:
"If one foot first lands inbounds and the receiver has possession and control of the ball, it is a catch or interception even though the subsequent step or fall takes the receiver out of bounds."
Did he ground (out of bounds) cause him to bobble the ball? Under the actual RULES... It doesn't matter.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch Hahahahahahaha. Are you serious????? The one foot down has to be a balanced step. If the player is stumbling or falling down, then they have to maintain possession throughout. A player could hypothetically take 5 or 6 steps while stumbling. If they hit the ground and lose possession of the ball then IT'S NOT A CATCH. This applies to BOTH the NFL and College. It comes up all the time. Most recently Calvin Johnson Lions vs Bears. How do you not know this? NCAA RULE 7-3-6 XI - XIV
Quazaar51 1 year ago
@Quazaar51 What?! You need a "balanced step" down?! A catch has EVERYTHING to do with the BALL... not a "balanced step". That's why the rule gives a provision for having a HAND DOWN you moron - or do you need a "balanced hand" too?
Harris showed possession with his foot (while first catching the ball) and with his right hand (while holding the ball in his left) and although it moved upon his elbow hitting the ground... he never lost possession of the ball.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch NCAA Rule 7-3-6 XIII. Airborne receiver A85 possesses the ball and in the process of coming to the ground, first contacts the ground with his left foot inbounds as he falls to the ground out of bounds. Immediately upon hitting the ground out of bounds, the ball pops loose, and A85 catches it before it hits the ground. Ruling: Incomplete pass regardless of whether or not the ball hits the
ground because the receiver is out of bounds when the ball is possessed. Haha. You Lose!
Quazaar51 1 year ago

Quazaar51 1 year ago
yeah you right..... even if we give auburn there magical run, we still woulda won if we had gotten the fumble for a touchdown play called right.
saVageLiFE72 1 year ago
Oregon had multiple chances to put the game away and failed to do so. Officiating did not cost you the game.
wadesworld2112 1 year ago
@wadesworld2112 Or... you COULD say Auburn had extra chances (thanks to the refs) to put the game away and still only won on a last-second field goal.
Call me when Auburn gets:
- a fumble return for a TD taken away (via refs)
- an extra-second (past :00) on the play clock to make a critical 3rd and 12 (via refs)
- an interception taken away (via refs) on a play PRIOR to a Auburn TD pass.
Did officiating "cost" Oregon the game? Maybe not... but calls like these went Auburn's way all game.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch Call me when Oregon makes the plays necessary to win the game.
- Had the sack been reviewed, it would have been called an incomplete pass
- we did get away with one delay of game. But you're absolutely SURE we wouldn't have made it on 3rd and 17? You can guarantee that?
- the "interception" was not an interception.
You didn't have anything taken away. You failed to execute.
wadesworld2112 1 year ago
@wadesworld2112 Learn your rules pal. Instant replay can only overturn the "call on the field" - not make a new determination altogether. And the refs call wasn't that it was an incomplete pass (which would have made it 4th and 5)... it was that the ball was in Newton's hand when he was "down".
I'd say 3rd and 17 is a pretty tough "get"... but we'll never know now, will we?
I'd say the interception was about as close as the Dyer "down" call, which the refs "magically" allowed.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch
You have two running teams, one ran for 250+ and the other under 80, who do you think is going to win?

bearbryantisdead 1 year ago
@bearbryantisdead Thank you... my point exactly. Auburn only won by three points, and the refs screwed Oregon out of a fumble recovery for a TD. If the refs treat the Cam Newton fumble the same way they did the Michael Dyer run... Oregon wins. Thanks for understanding.

MrTweeha 1 year ago
Personally, I'd call incomplete pass as the arm is coming forward in a throwing motion. However, intentional grounding could then be argued. I think the ref judged Cam Newton as being in the grasp and thus the play is stopped. A sack is a better call than an incomplete pass as far as Oregon is concerned. Oregon blew it by trying to be too cute, throwing 2 INTs, giving up a safety, and falling to score on 4th down. Can't blame that on the refs.
Quazaar51 1 year ago
@Quazaar51 An "incomplete pass"? Newton would have had to throw the ball - which he didn't. It was knocked out of his hand against the defender. Cam was trying to make a play, and had he completed a pass there... it would have counted - as whistles only blew AFTER he was down. Also, Oregon threw one INT on a tipped ball, and the other due to pressure. Newton threw his pick DIRECTLY to an Oregon defender and had another that was "bobbled" but caught. And BOTH teams were stopped on 4th down.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch Ummm...IF THE ARM IS GOING FORWARD then it's an INCOMPLETE PASS. That's the way the rule is interpreted. It doesn't matter if the QB's arm hits a defender creating the ball to be dislodged from the QB's hand. It still count's as an incomplete pass. This is common knowledge if you actually know the game of football. After watching Auburn beat Oregon I realize that 2010 was a rather weak year in football. 2010 Auburn (or Oregon) wouldn't be champs in 9 of the last 10 years.
Quazaar51 1 year ago
@Quazaar51 The ref had every opportunity to call that an incomplete forward pass, and he didn't. Why? Because Newton swung his arm around and DIDN'T RELEASE the ball. It was only when he tried to bring the ball back into his body that he fumbled it. As for it being a "weak year"... I think you'll see more and more rusty teams now that these NC games are played TEN DAYS after New Years.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch Ever hear of the Tuck Rule. Even if the QB is attempting to tuck the ball, the arm was moving forward and thus it's an incomplete pass if knocked out. Moot point.
Since the ref blew the play dead clearly before Newton was down (as your video shows), in the grasp must have been the call by the ref. Therefore, it can't be reviewed. Newton was clearly going backwards and completely wrapped up. If Oregon wanted a fumble, then they should have made him fumble on first contact.
Quazaar51 1 year ago
@Quazaar51 #1. The "tuck rule" is an NFL only thing... no NCAA application.
#2. The "in the grasp" rule was NFL only too... but hasn't existed (in a one-on-one tackle) for 10+ years.
#3. If the ref did blow the whistle even EARLIER IN THIS PLAY, then shame on him TWICE. Dyer's progress was stopped, and yet that play continued without a whistle.
If Newton was declared "down" every time a defender grabbed him this season and he moved backwards... he'd have lost HALF his yards on the season.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch I call bull crap on this "The "in the grasp" rule was NFL only too... but hasn't existed (in a one-on-one tackle) for 10+ years." I've seen one-on-one tackles get called in the grasp in college football. The only thing the refs should have done is address the crowd on this play if they didn't want to review it. It was a 1st Quarter play and did not dictate the outcome of the game. Phil Knight should have just bribed the big 10 officials like he does the PAC 10 officials.

Oregon lost because their OL got dominated, not because of the refs.
ragebeam2 1 year ago
@ragebeam2 Ah ha! A "dominant" Auburn DL gives the Tigers just a last-second FG for the win? So where were the Tigers LESS THAN DOMINANT?!
Oregon had two sacks of Cam Newton... just like Auburn had on Thomas.
Oregon had a successful goal line stand... just like Auburn did.
And except for Auburn's final drive... they had MORE total yards than the Tigers. Face facts: Auburn needed every advantage they could get to win by the skin of their teeth... and the refs provided it for them nicely.
ruliarch 1 year ago
@ruliarch
