I read some story in a dog book once about the behavior of famous dogs in the media, and it said Pete was a very sweet dog on and off set, and never bit anyone. However, Lassie nipped the other actors and even almost bit the hand off of one of his ( I heard Lassie was actually played by a boy dog) trainers.
Petey, one of the first Pit Bulls who have caught my attention on these beautiful animals. My rescued man was almost named after him. I still call him Philly-Pete from time to time though. :)
Awesome dog, awesome breed. Sad that society paints such a horrible picture of this breed now. Petey was such a prime example of how the majority of pit bulls turn out. A few bad apple owners obviously don't represent good owners and their dogs. My 3 pit bulls are 8 years old now, and have been living next to my cats and kids since puppyhood, and not one damn negative incident. Thats not including dogs from previous years like Pomeranians, poodle, Malamutes, Huskies, German Shepherds, Weimeraners, Labrador Retrievers, Jack Russel, sheepdogs, ect. MANY breeds have caused deaths in the USA. They just don't get as much publicity.

I never knew Pete was a pitbull. I guess I never thought of it until now. But I was out walking my dog today and ran into a friendly couple that had a friendly pitbull named Pete. They said they got the name from the little rascals. My dog Arizona murdered was a chow and I named him after Petey I called mine pete. Chows were known to bite their owners but who would believe a six year old boy? I had my finger bitten off by a shepard and my dog got punished for it the shepard lived,all because I had dark skin and the owners of the shepard had light skin.

My niece's boyfriend has a Pitbull, his name is Duke, and he is as gentle as a lamb. He loves my seven year old great nephew. He loves me too. I've never saw the dog become agressive to her boyfriends sons either. It's not the dogs that are bad, it's the owners that make them bad.

The EngStaff, AmStaff, and APBT are the exact same dog. The Amstaff is just a name change and slight physical difference from the Engstaff while the Amstaff is a name change of the Amstaff because they were not admitted into the AKC under the Amstaff name as it was associated with fighting.

Back when? Pitbulls have been a social problem since the 1970's and even before. Even some of Colby's pits, some of the leading lines of their time, killed his 2 year old nephew and there are reports of people dying by these dogs since the 50's. But be rest assured this has been a problem almost sense the dawn of their inception.

Wrong. Pits were achieved from the Old English Bulldog and a few terrier mixes. Those were further condensed until they became a breed with a specific physical look and genetic code.
Nope, the dog in Homeward Bound was actually a standard American bulldog. English bull terriers are actually quite different and have cone-shaped heads--like the old Bud Light party dog, Spuds Mackenzie

You actually can get a pit bull with a natural black eye if you breed the same white male to the same black female a few times. My female has appointed herself as my granddaughter's personal terminator. She protects her when the killer squirrels attack....LOL...She acts like she's after them but if one of them is a little slow she'll slow down and let him get ahead. I don't know where you get your information from but it lacks serious credibility.
According to Wikepedia, the original Petey was a registered AmStaff, then from 1932 to 1938 several unrelated pitbulls portrayed Petey. Its definitely not an American Bulldog. They are taller dogs more like boxers.

I was being facetious. My former boss and a neighbor were raised by pits. I'd love to have some of my own, but since I'm away from home 285 days a year, I don't think it would be fair to have them.
The first dog with the ring had it inked on and it did not come off, but after that the different dogs playing the role had rings applied before filming that washed off. No one was ever too concerned about which side. Also, sometimes the film or photograph has been flipped so it only looks like the wrong side. Thanks for watching!

Then when people, especially kids would bend down to pet them the dogs ALWAYS snapped at them and this old Fart would Laugh his Ass off about it! His dogs bite a friend of mine and drew blood! And she was Pregnant! Threatened to sue him and he paid her!

My dog Arizona murdered was a chow and I named him after Petey I called mine pete. Chows were known to bite their owners but who would believe a six year old boy? I had my finger bitten off by a shepard and my dog got punished for it the shepard lived,all because I had dark skin and the owners of the shepard had light skin.

dude, please do your homework on the APBT & Staffordshire Bull Terrier.
& DUH no APBT looks like a Staffy because of the cross-breeding BUT they both are in the same family tree. Over years the breeding the of Staffy had been played with to created a dog with more athleticism. APBT's are taller, more fit and are more athletic then a Staffy.
Pete is a Brindle & White Staffy.
I have seen TONS of Staffys that look like Pete! dot over the eye and all!

The EngStaff, AmStaff, and APBT are the exact same dog. The Amstaff is just a name change and slight physical difference from the Engstaff while the Amstaff is a name change of the Amstaff because they were not admitted into the AKC under the Amstaff name as it was associated with fighting.

i own a american pit bull terrier & a staffordshire bull terrier.
back in the good ol days you could walk your bull terrier, bulldog or staffordshire bull terrier and people would not pay the dog any mind.
because back then people TRAINED their dogs to act respectfully.
nowdays only thing these new gen staffys & APBT know is to attack. you can train a dog to do a lot of things and to attack is 1 that people back thought was insane.

Back when? Pitbulls have been a social problem since the 1970's and even before. Even some of Colby's pits, some of the leading lines of their time, killed his 2 year old nephew and there are reports of people dying by these dogs since the 50's. The problem about the past is that most people didn't write about dog attacks and most people didn't source the breed when they did. But be rest assured this has been a problem almost sense the dawn of their inception.

i can't speak on other pits. i only trust my 2 dogs.
before i got my 2 pits. i had a pit bull mix with a german shepherd. i got rid of that dog because i was seeing he was becoming a problem. i got him when he was 2 years old from a friend and i would NEVER by a pre-owned dog ever again!
i got my 2 pits when they were 6 weeks old. NEVER had a problem because i trained them to have respect for me and others.

Wrong. Pits were achieved from the Old English Bulldog and a few terrier mixes. Those were further condensed until they became a breed with a specific physical look and genetic code.

I remember because i was like 6 when I watched it and that's how I fell in love with their funny shaped heads. Plus I remember him being pretty small compared to the golden retriever and Am Bulldogs are massive :p

You actually can get a pit bull with a natural black eye if you breed the same white male to the same black female a few times. My female has appointed herself as my granddaughter's personal terminator. She protects her when the killer squirrels attack....LOL...She acts like she's after them but if one of them is a little slow she'll slow down and let him get ahead. And I wouldn't trade that dog for his whole darn store either...LOL...We also raise them and help prosecute people who abuse them.

Just had to comment on the bulldog thing the amstaff and american pit were breed by crossing the original old english bulldog (extinct) which original petie looks mostly like and a game terrior so there for looks like a bull dog but is definently not and american bull dog which came from the old english bull dog being bred with a pug expaining the health problems they are both early american or staffy bull terriors the breed was still somewhat new at the time

The second pete was "Lucenay's Peter" and was dual registered UKC APBT and AKC American Staffordshire Terrier. Pete looks nothing like an Am. Bulldog, he looks like a Colby dog. I don't know where you get your information from but it lacks serious credibility.

According to Wikepedia, the original Petey was a registered AmStaff, then from 1932 to 1938 several unrelated pitbulls portrayed Petey. Its definitely not an American Bulldog. They are taller dogs more like boxers.

he was also a registered APBT with the UKC before he was reg. with the AKC. his name was Lecenary's Peter and he was the son or grandson of the great pit dog Tudor's Black Jack Jr. One of the best old game dogs to ever live. the majority of APBTs and alot of Am Staffs can be traced back to Black Jack and Black Jack Jr. They came from Colby dogs and the most famous was Colby's Pincher, 99.9% of legit APBTs trace back to this dog. A 24xW in the box, arguably the best old pit dog ever

The first dog with the ring had it inked on and it did not come off, but after that the different dogs playing the role had rings applied before filming that washed off. No one was ever too concerned about which side. Also, sometimes the film or photograph has been flipped so it only looks like the wrong side. Thanks for watching!
