This is good advice because I'm on the weight lifting team at my school and there taking out bench press which is my best event and there putting in this wish me luck
I do squats deads and cleans at the gym, but the snatch is the only exercise I'm cared to try because I know I'll botch the form.
I remember messing up the clean the first times I was doing it... at some point I pulled my back in a really awkward way because I did the mistake of pulling up with my arms. With the snatch I feel like I have to be even more careful.
@ZeekyBoogyDoog These are extremely technical lifts. When learning them, start light. When I say light, I mean try practicing with something as light as a broom stick. Only progress to heavier weights when you feel comfortable in the slot position. The snatch - especially the full snatch - takes a significant amount of shoulder flexibility to perform correctly.
Also, make sure you're using a part on which the ends spin. If they don't you can end up injuring your wrists.
When should I start going into the full squat. With my regular weight I do not even have to go into the squat, but then when I add on 5lbs I can get the weight just above my head. Should I basically get the bar to my head and then just go underneath the bar and catch it?
@Actuallityy Sounds like what you're doing now is a power snatch, which is a skill transfer exercise for the full snatch. It's extremely technical, and in the beginning you may even want to lower the weight when learning the full snatch as it can be tough to keep the bar in the slot position when you do drop into a squat. Once you do, it will allow you to handle some heavier weights - so my answer is start going into a full squat when your form allows you to.
@dgwear69 You want to try to drive your hips forward as much as you can without bouncing it. Bouncing will cause the bar to swing outward and have a curved path. So to answer you directly, no.
@dgwear69 its like a leap from the top quad touching your lower belly, dipping under, pushing your elbows out, bar across your shoulders, front squatting up. Thats how I look at it. Add more to it or less if I made a mistake. lol
Wow, this was good. I made a comment on your (clean dead), and was worried about this vid. but your technique is decent, and you had some good viewing angles. Very nice gym by the way. But get rid of the mirrors lol.

Pull the bar up in a straight line? You sure? You won't be making any brief hip contact if you are...
