@misfit13091 "If the Katana makes contact with another sword it will chip or break. It was made for quick drawing not defending. Katana = overrated."
This myth is just as bad as the "katana cutting through concrete" one... Yes its true harder metal chips more easily; however, it is NOT A TWIG, it is a deadly weapon. Its not going to chip because you parried.
@misfit13091 The only way it will chip during sword to sword contact is if you SMASHED THEM TOGETHER...
However, in this case BOTH would have to be hard metal, if one is not hard metal; it will get sliced into (not through, just into).
Its like a game of bloody knuckles, smash your knuckles together, and its painful as hell for the both of you. Smash your knuckles into the palm of the guys hand, and well... Sucks for the other guy...
The truth is that katana is a sword with reputation built by myths and anime shows. Hussar sabre beats it in every category ... well maybe not in the number of fanboys. I know I was a weeaboo in past ;)
@francescoyaftehmihan he uses european sword techniques. It was called "katana" because he uses bokken. still i agree with you about that every sword is leathal. if someone knows perfectly how tu use combat knife he/she will be great oponent against everyone. *high five*
@born2lol "The truth is that katana is a sword with reputation built by myths and anime shows."
The truth is, jealous western hillbillies tend to make up just as bad anti-katana myths... "Hussar sabre beats it in every category" Really, and what categories do those happen to be?
Interesting video. I think katana has not too much chance against sabre becouse of a simple reason. Katana is a two handed sword which means it has shorter attack and and defend area than the one handed sabre.
From an other wiewpoint saber is basically a sword which was used from horseback. These circumstances are turn the balance to the saber's side again. Just try to imagine how deadly that attack what a razor sharped saber can give with 60km/h speed... :-)
@kadzit personally I think Indian weapons are the best (tulwar and such) but I have never seen this sabre before today. I do like killij style blades and blades that can be used with ferocity.
@kadzit Not realy my friend :P it takes just 2 centimeter of depth cut to slice any important vain in body. Sabre does it to 3 cm katana even to 8... but as you pierced the vein it makes no difference. Katana demands more force for atack that is needlesly overpowered... it's like exploding a snail with a granate, while astep on it with a boot makes the same stuff done.
@LiskowicStudios Yeah, if you had a chance and time to slice that deeply, but if you look at bones of victims found by archeologists on battlefields it very often proves that the cuts were rather shallow, quick, delt in chaotic way, still enaugh to kill someone :P
@YuriPRIME good point but we forrgot one thing SABER was created as Cavalery weapon. During horse charge it was not suprise when opponent lost half of his head body etc. During fight on feet saber fighters were trained to cut at the vital points (so deep cuts were not needed at all) When your opponent use two handed weapons he/she uncovers that vital points much often than other saber fighter. On the other hand attack with two handed sword etc may easily break the block of saber rapier etc.
@YuriPRIME so final conclusion is that. No metter what weapon your opponent use...result of the duel depends from a FIGHTER not WEAPON. If you understand advantages and disadvantages of your weapon and you are able to use that knowledge during duel...you will be victorious ^^
@LiskowicStudios That is true ^^ but you know if I just think of a Winged Hussar charge against Japanese horseriders I can't help to wonder not who will win, but why japanese haven't retreated during first few minutes of the struggle ^^
@YuriPRIME "I just think of a Winged Hussar charge against Japanese horseriders I can't help to wonder not who will win, but why japanese haven't retreated during first few minutes of the struggle"
I don't know about that, if it were just cavalry vs cavalry, the Japanese would feign retreat and arrow down most of the Hussar before the actual battle begun.
The Mongols hit Poland hard, and the Japanese have all the same tricks and more...
@szmesz i dissagree, as a person who has done kendo and single handed sword for years i.e. vikingr, sabre etc a proper katana could quite easily be used with 1 hand. also this persons kendo is terrible. usinf proper technique a good kendoka could win, so could the sabre mind u. now if a shield was involved my $ would be on the sword and shield. but to make conclusions from this video considering their techniques r amateur at best is just silly.
I absolutely agree about the katana is a deadly, sword of course.
I just say your oportunities of moving are more "limited" if you use both hands.
No offense to the katana, I respect the katana especially if it used by a person who know how to use it. :) I saw some bato do cuts. These were wonderful. If you cant control properly your katana, than it wont cut.
I training with saber till 3 years, but never tried cut yet. Watching katana cuts can be very instructive for me.
@szmesz Actually your movements are not limited... Your range is limited, however using your weapon 2 handed gives you also sorts of control, for positions and strikes that you wouldn't normally be able to do with 1 hand... Also, its not like it takes anything to mix it up, and do 1 handed strikes along with 2 handed ones.
@szmesz Anyways, the range limit is actually not that much... Probably not much more then an inch. The Katana has an extra long handle specifically so that you have leverage and range...
Hm. Powiem tylko tyle. Niejednokrotnie przeprowadzano testy i walki z uzyciem obu rodzaji broni. Zawsze wygrywala szabla. Dlaczego?

@copypacercopypacer there blades were this same quality... you see sabre in poland was used in all wars so they had to made the best sabre in europe. try to see how looks "Szabla husarska"
@copypacercopypacer probably any of them will break, but if they were bad quality ...well probably katana would break sabre because f you are useing 2 hands your hits are ussually stronger.
@kadzit "well in my opinion katana would break first, because sabre (polish sabre) was more flexible" The flexibility would also decrease the shock given too the katana... Chances are they would glance off of each other... If you smashed them into each other as hard as possible, the katana's blade would probably bite into the sabre, but nothing more...
. PS. dzieki za uwagę, będę wiedział co poprawiac jak mi ten problem z nogą przejdzie

@szmesz A katana is designed for 2 handed, but believe me; it is just as effective when used 1 handed, if just slightly more tiring...
Using a weapon 2 handed gives you more power, and more control; if it becomes a binding match, you'd best use both hands...
