NAFTA guarantees the U.S. access to Canadian energy at domestic prices...look up the National Energy Policy of the early 1980s to see what the problem for the U.S. was. It guarantees Canada access to largest economy, the U.S. economy, to sell their goods (and vice versa, but obviously, access to the Canadian economy is not as important as access to the American economy is to Canadian business). The problem is ofcourse a double standard given the U.S. can still shut it's border to trade.

Trickle down theory just doesn't work...at least not reliably. It's even worse during the course of a recession when the people who have the most to lose start to scramble and grab at anything they can. When people are basically handed money (or anything they find useful and desirable), their first instinct is to hold on to or use as much of it as possible. It just runs counter to human instinct to pass on advantages to other people who you have some power over.

NAFTA guarantees the U.S. access to Canadian energy at domestic prices...look up the National Energy Policy of the early 1980s to see what the problem for the U.S. was. It guarantees Canada access to largest economy, the U.S. economy, to sell their goods (and vice versa, but obviously, access to the Canadian economy is not as important as access to the American economy is to Canadian business). The problem is ofcourse a double standard given the U.S. can still shut it's border to trade.
