Stu, you are an absolute inspiration to me. It's a shame you're all the way in Thailand and i'm here in California, i'd love to meet for coffee or lunch and discuss linguistics and languages. I've watched just about all your videos on here, trying to understand the way you think and learn, and it seems like we're on the same page!! Makes sense why i learn languages so easily. Just wanted to say thanks for uploading, and i'm glad i stumbled on your page. Maybe you can teach me Thai one day!!
Hi Stu! Great videos mate ... I'm learning Thai now and can converse/read/write to an advanced level after a year .. I plan on taking on Chinese Mandarin next (I already know a bit of Japanese (Nihongo))
Just curious ... what is that Mandarin book you recommended in this video? There is a Chinese bookshop here in Melbourne and hopefully I can track it down there!
@cobyau The book is "Cracking the Chinese Puzzles" by T.K.Ann. Some people have told me that they've hunted copies down, though not without a bit of a search. It comes in 5 volumes, or the one I have there is the Abridged Edition.
That's a fair criticism about aussies, they get pissed off because they don't speak more than one language... and there is a great sense of 'invasion' of asians into the country, so its more about losing their neo-british culture they've had dominance in for the last 200 years. Its not about the languages, its about fear of loss of identity ;)
There are various systems: some works by pronunciation (you type the word pronunciation and you get the character), other by radicals (parts of the character)
Just unbelievable man! Thank you so much for inspiring every one of us with such words. I was afraid of learning 2 new languages at the same time, just because I'm learning my 3rd one (spañol). But now I won't give up until I speak 5 languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French) or even more. Thanks very much! :) =) =D ;)
This is actually inspirational! He's fired me up to accelerate my Japanese learning, polish off my French and perhaps even pick up another one or two languages! Amazing :D
you know how some multilinguist whose mother tongue is english always use their natural accent when saying an english word? He doesn't do that.. the way he say X-factor, that was really thai-like
Some people just do that, it's like the language just becomes a part of you when you use it enough. I don't know how to explain it, but I kind of do the same when I speak English or German.
why cant sum1 learn 2 leanguage as once?? as a chinese malaysian, we learn a minimum of 3 languages if we go to a chinese school.. chinese, english and bm... so if we speak like other languges like hokkien or cantonese or hainan or teochew or what ever, we learn another languge...! so it's not really a problem for us to be multi-languaged! hah!
Wonderful. I'm learning a couple languages right now and just having trouble doing about 20-30 words a day.. however he does it, this guy is definitely amazing.
People have said that anyone can do what he does but i think that not everyone can pioneer language learning like him. To learn in colour and to play language games all the time!, it takes a really inspirational creative mind to constantly invent these ways of keep a learning environment 24/7.
He down plays his abilities a bit but wot a guy,i've just bought a khmer book and i'm already learning thai ,i think i need a learning strategy because my memory is not as good as his.
Absolutely brilliant, Stu. You are a great man! Thank you so much for sharing.

You were born pitch-perfect and with synesthesia. You speak 20+ languages. And you are good looking. You also seem like a good man.
What did you do last life?

@dknyism Stu worked for it all, at least the languages and many of his thinking techniques.

Sorry 256Peace - in responding to your comment, I inadvertantly deleted it! ... here it is again. Response to follow :)
256peace has made a comment on Part 5 - Stu Jay Raj - Hearing in Colours:
Do you have perfect (absolute) musical pitch Jay. Name or recall any note on a piano, guitar, or instrument, and name the frequency?
If so then I bet you have a gene that many of us don't.
