The Radio 1 Jingles of the 1970's and 80's were Fanstatic, use to love listening to Radio 1 as a child, listening to Dave Lee Travis at the weekends, Simon Mayo Breakfast Show and Steve Wright in the Afternoon now on Radio 2. Happy sound of Radio 1 of today is no longer my favourite station.
Radio today in the uk is useless and seems to be getting worse. Many of the voices (i use that term loosely) today are painful to listen to. Its been totally dumbed down
I wouldnt quite word it exactly the same way as 'runrome' or 'jtlampsu' but i cant help but agree with them all the way, radio one was much better in the 1970's with jimmy saville, dave lee travis, tony blackburn and noel edmunds, i couldnt stand chris eveans or chris moyles, so i never liston to it now!, the best has gone!
....because it has become the kind of 'new' Radio 1, with the typical old fashioned 'personality jocks' catering for the broad audience that Radio 1 used to attract. Plays a diverse set of music (up to a point !) too, e.g. 'oldies' (well what we now see as) like Oasis, Blur and as far back as 70s & 60s, mixed with your current chart stuff like Cheryl Cole and Lily Allen etc
@jackotheripper rather that then the mechanical music of 2011 which is over played , And boorish Radio Presenters(establishment flunkies )who are overpaid.
Absoluetly the best decade of Radio 1. They had everyone from Blackburn to Young. And with Johnny Beerling producing Tony Blackburns Breakfast Show in 1967 3 years before, you could never go wrong with Radio 1. It took me all day to make that rhymey thingy up too. But i suppose thanks to Bannister wrecking it all, Radio 1 has become less famous.
@Runrome could not agree more, moyles would be a tea boy at best if he was 20 years younger. good point about the dick suckers as they feed he and others like him.. Evans and Steve Wright who will only read out requests if people are stupid enough to tell him how great his show is.. Wanker
To show just how much has changed, Radio 1 back then could actually have someone like Tom Browne (remember him - one of the few R1 jocks who wasn't a TOTP celeb?) doing the Top 40 on Sundays (from 1972-77). He sounded like James Mason and the intro sequence used excerpts from the Apollo countdown. "we have lift-off...")
@jackotheripper What it is this long since, is that if you didn't care much for the djs or some of them, it did feel as if you were listening to something that was great then ; somewhere that you could exclusively listen to chart music, which was huge as opposed to now, where like tv, it has fragmented so much with if anything too much competition and diversity, that hardly anyone bothers to listen. TV used to be something to look forward to before video. Movies were a big event. Radio 2 is big
Rather hear cheese and goodtime radio than modern and dead!

in 1992 idiot Bannister killed R1 and lost millions of listeners, today R1 makes me want to slash my wrists!

Ah for the good old days decent music.
Now Radio passes off entertainment as that over payed twat Moyles(an articulate play ground bully) and his dick suckers that passes as entetainment?

You know the answer to the Moyles prob, don't listen to the stroker !!

@Runrome So you'd essentially like to hear Radio 1 constantly play music from 1970s with cheesy wooden presenters?
