Dear President Khatami:

As much as we all love you we hope that you realize that Iranians are no longer satisfied with "freeedom light", they want real and total freedom.

Many of the students and protesters no longer want an "Islamic Republic, the want an Iranian Republic.

It is not because they hate you or religion, it is because the theocratic system has failed them and they want religion out of their goverement.

He emphasised that three bases of independence, freedom and Islamic Republic have been the roadmap for student movements, but we want freedom with in entirety. He stressed that what is important at this critical stage is to maintain calm and peace while keeping pressure for the lawful and legitimate demands of the nation. At the end he added that protests are students undeniable right and he believes that students wont commit defying acts but want to express their views.

Khatami addressed the authorities who before the Student Day had claimed that they would confront the student protests culturally by handing out flowers to the students; and said: there is no need for the flowers, just release the detained students as well as the other political prisoners and return the safe environment for dialogue to the universities.

He added that for more than hundred years, the Iranian people have been paying heavy prices for freedom, independence, and prosperity and having control over their fate. Khatami expressed sorrow that this years national Student Day many of the students were in prison and on this day that the students should have been honoured even more of them were arrested and attacked.
