  • The African method is virtually the same as what the current callanetics teachers are teaching all over the world. The main new features are body alignment, posture, core stability and rotational movements - all good things that we didn't know about when the original program was released.

  • What is the difference between the African method and the other Callans?

  • thing is,I look at their bodies, then I look at callans, callans is much better, longer, stronger, more elegant.

I find the body of these lovely women far too bulky for me.

and they aren;t as supple and as fluid as the lovely callan.but its a different style so it won't be the same would it.

  • @Indogo - everyone is different and that is what makes us all so beautiful. You wouldn't like my figure is you like the very lean look - I have the perfect hourglass shape and I LOVE it!! As long as you love the look you have, that is all that matters!

  • These exercises remind me a lot of the Lotte Berk exercises. Are they related?

  • My opinion is that Lotte Berk was the first person to put together this type of exercise. Callan Pinckney then created her version and now the South Africans have moved it further forward with more technique and improved body alignment for even better results.

  • @Callenetics

I agree ... the south african method has incorporated yoga with callanetics (which already has many yoga postures but the pulsing thing is new) ... I will give this a shot maybe it can be better than doing them both separately...

  • My Apologies! I had it all wrong. Thanks for filling me in. I thought Pilates was very much like Callanetics, and immediaetly judged

wrongly. I don't like to follow trends, which is what it appeared to be. I never tried it, only watched a video. Callanetics is the best program I have ever tried for fast results, and I don't have to huff and puff and dred exercise. It's so Zen and relieves stress incredibly. I'm back to it. I Love it. Thank you!

  • Pilates did steal Callens idea, the reason I won't do them. They add a ball here, a tool there. You don't need anything but the DVD, no frills of Callens original work out. though I am interested in the new DVD.

  • Pilates never stole Callans ideas - Joself pilates was around long before Callan - during the second world war. His program is totally different. Callan developed the small pulses, which was first put together by Lotte Berk in London. Pi;ates has no small pulses at all and is quite different. Personally, Callanetics gave me much faster results than Pilates which is why I went on to teach Callanetics but it doesn't mean Pilates isn't good - it is different and perhaps suits different body types.

  • I started doing callenetics 20 years ago. Let me tell you, It so works! I've gotten lazy in the last few years, but what I love about this program is it is FAST with results. Starting again with a goal to get committed and back in shape.

  • WTF IS SOUTH AFRICAN CALLENTICS?

Whatever happened to just regular Callenetics? Callen Pinckney is dead and these people are just capitalizing on her name.

  • Callan isn't dead and saying we are capitalising on her name is like saying all the pilates studios in the world are capitilsing on Joseph Pilates name - quite frankly, I think it does her credit and still gives her her due as the original thinker. New callanetics exercises were created in Europe and the USA studios now teach the new style. The South African program is the same but create in South Africa where there seem to be more teachers and studios than in the whole of the rest of the world.

  • ahhh thank you for the clarification.

  • My cousin has the full length video and showed me some excersize being a 22 year old male I was very skeptical but after doing the leg techniques i could hardly walk. This has me hooked.

  • hey....does this work against cellulitis?? and if yes - how long does it need to make cellulitis on legs away??

  • Cellulitis is to do with bacteria, not exercise. :S

  • I have been a fan of Callanetics for years now. You need to get a copy of the original "CALLANETICS'video, where Callen Pinckney personally demonstrates her techniques. Try E-Bay!

  • I have all the original workouts. We started wit them 16 years ago. This is the updated callanetics programme. Callan's studios in the USA now teach this new program as well. The original callanetics had no core stability in the pelvic area, incorrect foot alignment and some incorrect posture. This has all been corrected in the updated versions with the addition of rotational movements to work muscles even more deeply.

  • from these clips, if i were to imitate some of the excercises would i see any results?

  • You really need to understand the technique behind the exercises to get real results. This is just an overview of what is in the DVDs. Just doing the movements without using the internal and posture techniques won't really give you results.

  • It would be better if there were some sort of commentary telling me why this would be better than the Denise Austin aerobics I do in the mornings on cable T.V. that I've already paid for. Nice Music though.

  • Denise Austin is aerobics - getting the heart rate up and getting fitter. Callanetics is serious body toning and sculpting. No aerobics. Pure shaping in a very short time.

  • It is only a promotional clip - if everyone could see the actual exercises in full and how they were executed, no one would need to buy my DVDs and I would go broke!!

  • it is a pity that the shots are too short, i would like to see more from exercises
