singer kinda reminded me of something spinal tap would do:"clap your hands! romania! czech republic! Turkestan! russia! unkraine! iran and iraq-come together! afghanistan and taliban! georgian republic!"
I love these guys. RIP Randy, man what a player. Ed the drummer is just amazing, as someone mentioned he is from the greatest generation born in the 20's. Saw them perform in 1995 at the Coach House in Ca. Glad I did!.
I discovered Spirit 1968 and I am still stunned by their music. I got all their their albums and listen to their music almost every day. Randy C was a great music man and I will always keep him and his music deep in my heart.
@StephenRedrobe perhpas it sounded magical through the moniters.........soundmen really aren't very good sometimes....hey checkl out the spirit video history in my playlists.
Saw this one in Finland fresh and randy was still kickin* and Ed too. These Rockpalast shoes got Dickie Betts, Mothers Finest etc great stuff as I remember. Even Ted Nugent?
Randy died on January 2, 1997 while trying to save his son in Hawaii, Randy was swept out to sea by the strong currents. All you kids who want to be rock stars had better look and listen because Randy California was one mother of a guitar player and Spirit was one hell of a band, way ahead of their time.
That would probably be Larry Fuzzy Knight on Bass in 1978. For the record: Randy California died January 2, 1997, when he drowned off the coast of Hawaii.
WOW! I really loved this. Thanks for posting this! I grew up in Connecticut and I remember when my boyfriend and I used to go to see Spirit whenever they played in the Hartford area. The were some of the best times. I'm now 58 but this video made me feel like I was 18 and graduating from high school.

Yes once again I'm corrected and now know that Ed Cassidy isn't Randy's dad. My mistake thanks for pointing it out.

@1979bobhd People keep talking about Hendrix influenced him, it might have been the other way around.

Very sad day when we lost Randy . Saw the original Spirit in SF long ago and saw other versions of the band after , He was a real talent .

Has to be one of the most under-rated rock bands ever. "Dr. Sardonicus" is a masterpiece.
