1:45 is brilliant because really, that's all he ever wanted to do. He says it in a much more forceful way at another point in the movie, I think it's at the school board meeting prior to this, but he says something like "I took this job so that I could affect change in young men in this city and THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I KNOW HOW TO DO THAT!" When Timo Cruz said that he saved his life it means that he succeeded... Even before all the Playoffs and St. Francis stuff.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.' We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make
This is without a doubt my favourite quote. Unfortuantely however, its origins are credited to both this movie and Nelson Mandela incorrectly. It has been adapted from the book 'A return to love' by Marianne Williamson.
i'v watched this movie like 100 times I know that quote of by heart!!! fuck you haters, jus coz u could never produce an amazing speech like that doesn't mean you have to talk it down, lets see you learn English pussy's
There is everything in rising by making other people small, with hurting them! This everything is happyness and if wished and trained for enlightment, carried by beeing happy.
That quote is a bunch of unreal fictional phantasy that has nothing to do with this world!
The more you shine, the more you take away the love from others and put fear into them! Unconciously people get destroyed in their soul and hearts, with others shining too much around them!
@whatthehell81 I prefer the original quote better, yours is, how can I put this, SHIT. You spell fantasy with an f by the way, did someone shine and take away your ability to use a dictionary?
@whatthehell81 You may want to look at the parts about it is in all of us not just some of us and the part about freeing others to do the same. Insofar as you omit these parts then what you are saying could happen.
@martin2000raw cause I'm leaving on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again...and I'm really tired of the snakes... do we have to take them with us?
@brian092393 it describes that our deepest fear is our fear of not being able to live up to our potential, "we are powerful beyond measure," that we are too great to do fullfill our own destiny, at least thats how ive always interpreted it
@Airman32292 i see it as we fear how great we can be. we aren't afraid of being in adequate. we are afraid of fulfilling our destiny, because we are afraid of what it will be. not that we cant fulfil it.
@Airman32292 i see it as we fear how great we can be. we aren't afraid of being in adequate. we are afraid of fulfilling our destiny, because we are afraid of what it will be. not that we cant fulfil it.
@JacobB1832 yeah thats pretty much how i perceive it, its really deep, theres a michael jordan commercial that has a small reference to that idea, its called look me in the eyes, and he says, "look me in the eyes, its ok if youre scared, so am i. But were scared for different reason, im scared of what i wont become, youre scared of what i could become" really cool quotes, both of them
Samuel L. Jackson's reaction (the head movement and the fact he swallows) after he says "you saved my life" is so understated. It really does add something, I know it sounds silly but it really does, it makes it seem so authentic and as though Samuel is really feeling it.
I have the quote blown up and framed in my house. It's one of the first things you see when you walk in. It's powerful and moving. Actually longer than what's in the movie too. But still love this scene.
Do you guys think the first 2 lines of this poem... "our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure."...would be a good quote as a tattoo in reference to one of my sport teams?
@nrenau the whole thing would be amazing, its a lot though and idk if people would be willing to sacrifice that much skin for some ink....just the first two lines, the "our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure"
For all those wondering the music used during the speech. It's called 'the apology' and it's part of the original motion picture score by Trevor Rabin. It's not readily available on the net for download but if you pull a few strings like I did you may get hold of it in mp3 format. I recommend trying, it's one of the best movie scores ive heard. You may also be able to get hold of it in .rar format and take it from there.
This movie is a really good movie a inspireing movie.. this poem is the greatest I listen to it everyday now I go on in my life with this it's very true..Going from a kid that's always in trouble and standing up saying this poem is great i want to do this..This touch my heart and has been changing how i see and do things now .. I really want to get this tattoo on my chest or something..
the actual poem DOESN'T talk about God, it mentions Him twice and i assume Marianne Williamson is Religious so therefore her beliefs revolve around God.
thats probably why this version for the film was changed somewhat, probably so, as to not want to PREsume that all viewers of the film are religious in that same way and instead, in doing so, include MANY people from All walks of life :)
so you dont think I'm an atheist or a God hater, I am actually a Catholic :) Just Saying!
"What is you deepest fear? That you're, inadequate?" Our deepest fear is not that we're inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we're powerful beyond measure.
some months ago i watched this video and today i've seen the movie, it's made me think. some people think coach carter is one of so many movies about "schools in guettos"but i do not think so. aim spanish and i've need to see it whith subtitles, but i've done it in original version to beein able to hear the differences (f.i. when cruz says "hijo de puta" after his cousin was shooted).
i love this movie, and i think it's gonna be one of the best i'll see in my life =)
i fucking love this movie and freedom writers, it's easy to point fingers and hate, its harder to love and forgive, and a lot of times the right thing to do, is the hardest things to do
